This
movie has been in development hell since the release of the
novel. Michael Crichton has a deal set up that whatever he
writes as a novel has the movie rights sold as well.
Disney
bought those rights for a cool $10 million and Joe Roth was
tasked with bringing it to the silver screen.
First
director that was rumoured to be involved was John "Die
Hard" McTiernan, but after ructions on set between him
and Michael Crichton this is now off.
Various
stars have had their names bandied about in relation to the
project, including Demi Moore (she's a lot cheaper to get
now), Geena Davis and Sigourney Weaver.
William
Wisher did the first draft of the screenplay, which Crichton
took to Disney.
This
is where things seem to have stuck. Disney took a look at
the size of the budget, huge mainly because of two huge airplane
scenes, and tried to get it significantly cut. Both scenes
are vital to the plot of the movie and this is where we are
at at the moment.
More
developments as we get them
