Wednesday
14th July 2004 Alfie Update:
I'm pretty amazed at Jude Law taking on the role that
Caine is nearly always thought of as his defining role. But
to take it on with a director who directed the frankly blooody
awful Father of the Bride Part II seems like career suicide
doesn't it? It's released in the US and UK on 22nd October,
which does suggest they are confident about it being a success.

Saturday
16th November 2002: Alfie Remake Update:
Michael Caine has revealed that a remake of his classic role
as Alfie is currently in development. He revealed that a writer
on the Frasier TV series was attached and he thinks he knows
who will be cast "I feel rather jealous. I think Brad
Pitt's going to play it. He's a very good actor, but he's
too good-looking so people don't think he can act"

Good news? Hmm, Variety report today that Paramount Pictures
are to remake the 1966 Michael Caine movie Alfie, directed
by Lewis Gilbert. The remake will be written by Elaine Pope,
an Emmy award winning scribe that has worked on episodes of
Seinfeld and Murphy Brown. The film will be directed by Father
Of The Bride helmer Charles Shyer. Now, I have nothing against
these the Father Of The Bride movies, hey they were very funny,
but Michael Caine's Alfie is one of my favourite films that
came out of the sixties. It was original. It was unique. Michael
Caine is and will always be Alfie in my mind and to see another
actor try and take his place, well...... The role belongs
to Caine. This is the second Michael Caine movie in a matter
of weeks to have the announcement that it will be remade,
following The Italian
Job, which looks like it may have Mark Wahlberg in the
lead role. Has Hollywood gone mad? Or is it intent on messing
with every British classic of the last forty years. First
Get Carter, then The Italian Job and now this.
Time will tell if this is successful. I hope they do a good
job. I really do........ So what's next, The Ipcress File?
