Kate Beckinsale has been talking about the upcoming The Aviator, specifically her role as Ava Gardner "It was a little bit intimidating. On every page of the script she is described as the most beautiful woman in the world." She then talked about the relationship between Howard Hughes and Gardner "It was a cantankerous flirtation. They were good friends, and she was attracted to him and his largesse. But she was worried that something might be required in return."

Jude Law has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator. Law will have a minor role as Hollywood superstar Errol Flynn.

The US release date for The Aviator has been set as 17th December 2004.

Thursday 20th November 2003: The Aviator Update:
Martin Scorsese has wrapped shooting on The Aviator just a day over schedule. The biopic of aviator/filmmaker Howard Hughes was slightly delayed because a set was damaged during the recent fires in Southern California. The $110 million blockbuster is described by producer Graham King as "a lot more commercial than we imagined. We show the man's passion for aviation, business, movies and women."

Actor Edward Herrmann, who has completed filming his role in Martin
Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator, has been talking about the
experience. Unsurprisingly, he says he had a great time hanging out with the
film's star, Leonardo DiCaprio. "Leo and his posse! I enjoyed that very
much," he said. "I just think he's smart as hell. I think he's wonderful as
Howard Hughes. In my scene with him, I was very intrigued by what he was
doing because Hughes is an enigma and is so hard to fathom, and it's so hard
to follow his processes. Leo did that beautifully."

A new picture of Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes in director Martin
Scorsese's upcoming Aviator has appeared online. The film, which also stars
Alec Baldwin, Kate Beckinsale and Cate Blanchett, is scheduled for a

Casting additions for The Aviator with Vincent Alresca signed up to play
Jorge Hughe's protector, Justin Shilton as a young test pilot and Brent
Spiner as Robert Gross the president of Lockheed. Chris Ufland has signed
on as an enigineer.

Tuesday 17th June 2003: The Aviator Update:
More additions to the cast of The Aviator today with news that Alec Baldwin
has signed on as Juan Tripp the boss of Pan Am. Also signed up today is
Danny Huston will will play Jack Frye the head of TWA. The full cast of The
Aviator is now a stellar one with LeonardoLeonardo DiCaprio, Cate
Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, Adam Scott, Kelli Garner, Gwen Stefani and John
C. Reilly.

Just received the following email that might or might not be true, can
anyone provide more info on this? "Current Miss Teen USA Vanessa Semrow
seems to be MIA lately....the Miss Teen USA website states that Vanessa is
relaxing for the summer, but the truth is that she is playing a
yet-to-be-determined role in The Aviator." Thanks to Courtney!

Tuesday 10th June 2003: The Aviator Update:
Nicole Kidman apparently had to turn down Martin Scorsese's offer to star in
his upcoming film The Aviator because she was too busy. The actress was keen
to work with the director, but couldn't fit the film into her schedule as
she is already committed to the films The Stepford Wives and Mr Smith.
Scorsese wanted her to play Katharine Hepburn in his biopic of Howard
Hughes, but the role has now gone to Cate Blanchett.

Monday 9th June 2003: The Aviator Update:
The budget for Martin Scorsese's next project The Aviator has been set as
$115 million. Graham King of Initial Entertainment who are handling foreign
rights on the movie and will be the company who are liable if the budget
overruns has revealed "It's the biggest independent movie ever made, unless
you count 'Lord of the Rings,' Would I like to see this made cheaper? We
all would. But it just can't be done in a way that we all want to do it. We
all want a movie that's just going to blow everyone away." It has been
revealed that the movie will concentrate on the years between 1928 and
1947 when he was producing the movie Hell's Angels up till the testflight
of the Spruce Goose. During those years the story goes through Hughes' rise
as a glamorous producer, love affairs with Katharine Hepburn and Ava
Gardner, the building of an airline, Hughes' fight against Pan Am,
censorship hearings on "The Outlaw," and Congressional hearings on the
Spruce Goose.

Wednesday 4th June 2003: The Aviator Update:
A number of big name actors, and one not so big, are being linked to Martin
Scorsese’s movie The Aviator, the story of billionaire Howard Hughes. Cate
Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, John C. Reilly and No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani
are all reported to be close to signing deals to join the cast, which
already features Leonardo DiCaprio. Blanchett is set to play Katherine
Hepburn, Beckinsake would star as Ava Gardner and Stefani is in line for the
part of Jean Harlow, while Reilly would appear as Noah Dietrich, Hughes’
right-hand man. Shooting is due to begin in Montreal next month.

Thursday 14th May 2003: The Aviator Update:
Jude Law is being lined up to star as film legend Errol Flynn in Martin
Scorcese’s The Aviator. Hollywood bosses want Law to join the cast for a
cameo, playing the dashing Australian-born Flynn. A film insider told a
British tabloid: "Jude is very interested in the role. Not just because it's
Errol Flynn, but also as it's just three days’ work. He's already catching
up on some of Errol's movies to impress producers when he meets them in
London."

Tuesday 15th April 2003: The Aviator Update:
Barry Pepper and Tom Wilkinson are apparently in negotiations to topline an
untitled independent feature based on Patricia Highsmith's novel Ripley
Under Ground for director Roger Spottiswoode. The project aims to go into
production on June 2 in England. Pepper has also been added to the cast of
the Martin Scorsese-directed The Aviator. He will play engineer Glenn
Odekirk opposite Leonardo DiCaprio's Howard Hughes.

Wednesday 9th April 2003: The Aviator Update:
Warner Bros. has approached the Hughes H-1 Replica Project about using the plane for Martin Scorsese film The Aviator, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes. The company’s replica of the Howard Hughes designed aircraft is the only flying H-1 Racer in the world. There were only two ever built: the one Howard Hughes built in 1935 and the one the company built and then flew in 2002. Hughes’ H-1 now sits in the Smithsonian Institute.

Wednesday 12th March 2003: The Aviator Update:
Nicole Kidman will not be starring in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator, as
previously thought. The Australian actress has reportedly decided to
concentrate on The Stepford Wives instead.

Hot young actress, Chekesha Van Putten will be portraying the part of Lena Horne in 'The Aviator'. She will be dressed by Valentino! 'Thanks to FilmStr'.

Monday 20th January 2003: The Aviator Update:
Martin Scorsese is thought to be in talks with Nicole Kidman to star as Ava Gardner in his upcoming biopic The Aviator. Also in talks for a role is Gwyneth Paltrow to star as Audrey Hepburn.

Tuesday 7th January 2003: The Aviator Update:
Leonardo Di Caprio has been talking to TV Guide about his role in The Aviator, a film based around the life of Howard Hughes. "It seems like I'm going to be immersed in two films that are very much about the world of aviation," DiCaprio acknowledges to TV Guide Online. "There are no similarities in the storyline or the structure, but, certainly, [both movies] are about people taking chances that nobody else did at the time."

Friday 13th December 2002: The Aviator Update:
Director Martin Scorsese has managed to secure Warner Bros. , Miramax and IEG to finance the $100 million plus he needs to make The Aviator. The movie will star Leonardo Di Caprio and will start filming on the 12th May in L.A. The movie will tell centre on the early life of Howard Hughes and will end in 1946, when Hughes was still a dashing young man and romancing actresses like Ava Gardner and Katharine Hepburn.

Saturday 12th October 2002: The Aviator Update:
Leonardo Di Caprio has annouced that he will star as Howard Hughes for Martin Scorsese in The Aviator with filming planned for early next year.
