News reaches us today that Batman Begins will get a simultaneous
release at the cinema and on IMAX in the US on 17th June
2005. This again proves that IMAX instead of being a small
irrelevant niche market is now proving to be bringing
in the big bucks for the film companies.

2004: Batman: Begins Begins Update:
Newsweek
have recently published a set visit complete with the first
interviews of Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale on the project.
There's also more details on the story which follows Bruce Wayne,
now a 25-year-old scion, returning to Gotham City intent on
kicking criminal butt. His family's military subcontracting
business, Wayne Enterprises, has been seized by shareholders,
who've relegated the company's most ambitious designs - and
their inventor, Lucius Fox - to the scrapheap. Wayne befriends
Fox, using his designs to create an alter ego. And not a moment
too soon because, naturally, there's a villain on the loose
named the Scarecrow, who's hellbent on poisoning all of Gotham.

31st March 2004: Batman: Begins: Begins Update:
Rutger Hauer has been talking about his cameo appearance in
Batman: Begins on his official site "The cameo has a good solid
structure but lacks character and I was able to drift to a horizon
I saw in the back of my head because the director [Christopher
Nolan] pushed me to explore and go there. Which is always exciting
& scary. Exciting because you are allowd to go there and
scary because your are not that secure. I found the 'key' to
my position/part at the end of the second day. That is so great
as well. It's one of the things I enjoy with vigour. 'The key'
is all you need, after that it is about balance and refinement."
Hauer says the film boasts "big, sensational grand sets.
Moody, art deco, impressive. Art department worked miracles
for the great visual richness." He adds that he "had
some smirkyness going with Christian Bale."
Thursday
25th March 2004: Batman: Begins: Begins Update:
It was rumoured but the official confirmation has been released
that Tom Wilkinson and Rutger Hauer have been signed up for
roles in Batman: Begins: Begins. Wilkinson plays Falcone, one of the
leading crime figures in Gotham City, while Hauer portrays Earle,
a business contemporary of Bruce Wayne's murdered father who
has designs on the Wayne corporate empire.

12th March 2004: Batman: Begins: Begins Update:
Hot news just in. Batman: Begins: Begins is filming in London's Canary
Wharf TODAY. And even more importantly they are filming the
Batmobile! They will be filming scenes in Excel Tower with scenes
of the Batmobile possibly on a turntable. While I'm not sure
what the scene is, could this be a scene of Batman: Begins getting a
hold of the Batmobile for the first time? I'm sure you'd all
have loved us to get pics of the filming for you today and I
can assure you we would have, unfortunately the land they are
filming on is Private Property and Warner's would have been
well within their right to sue our ass off if we took snooper
pics!
Monday
8th March 2004: Batman: Begins: Begins Update:
Rumours are circulating that Guy Pearce may after all make a
cameo appearance in Batman: Begins: Begins as Astt D.A. Harvey Dent.
Although the role isn't in the script Chris Nolan is thought
to be happy to add one in if Pearce agrees.
Thursday
4th March 2004: Batman: Begins: Begins Update:
The final casting for Batman: Begins: Begins has been announced. Gary
Oldman has been signed up to play Sergeant Jim Gordon. The scoop
on this was broken late last night by Filmforce (http://www.filmforce.ign.com)
and has been taken up by most outlets today. Batman: Begins: Begins
is looking like it's going to be the polar opposite to Batman: Begins
and Robin with yet another move for quality, instead of camp.
Friday
27th February 2004: Batman: Begins Begins Update:
Looks like Batman: Begins has finally been titled Batman: Begins Begins. A much
better and more honest title than the various permutations of
Intimidation Game that have been floating about.
Thursday
26th February 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
David Goyer has been blabbing about the upcoming Batman: Begins movie
to Aint It Cool, and again it all sounds good "here were
parts of the first and second films that I liked, but it was
not, taking nothing away from [director Tim] Burton, there's
never been Batman: Begins on film or TV that would be the Batman: Begins that
I wanted. Except for the movie that we're doing. That's the
Batman: Begins I want." He then talked about meeting DC Comics
to discuss their direction "spent two days with [DC Comics
president and publisher] Paul Levitz and the editorial staff
of Batman: Begins, told them what we were proposing, and said, 'Is there
anything that we're doing that you think is (wrong)?' I mean,
we did stuff in Batman: Begins that has never been told before, but
we didn't contradict anything." He then talked about how
much it related to the comics "Ours is definitely not [Frank]
Miller. I'm not taking anything away from it, but it's definitely
not Miller. All I can tell you is that DC was extremely happy."
Casting next "We were torn between [Christian] Bale and
Jake Gyllenhaal, because we wanted to go in a different direction.
But I think Bale at the end, I loved Jake, but Bale just seemed
the right way. Knowing the story that we're telling it's hard
for everyone else because they don't know the story that we're
telling, but it ultimately was the right way to go. And Michael
Caine, I was just freaking out when we got Michael Caine."
And finally the costume "Fans will like it. No nipples.
No codpieces." And should fans expect another sequel after
this installment? "We've set it up the way it ends, there's
clearly going to be another one."
Tuesday
24th February 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Christian Bale has been talking about why he will play Batman: Begins
"I think Batman: Begins is probably more aggresive than most everybody
I've ever played, you know. I wanted to take it, because, firstly,
when I heard that there was a consideration of doing more of
the movies, I just felt like I hadn't been quite satisfied with
what I'd seen in the other movies. Certainly in the last two,
it seemed as though there was actually a real character here,
that it wasn't just a bland kind of superhero, one-dimensional.
With him there really was an interesting character to be played.
I loved the kind of fantastical notion of the superhero, but
at the same time being able to bring a psychologically interesting
element to that. Then Chris Nolan is directing who, you know,
is not a director I would have expected to do this movie. So
that was ideal to me, I liked the fact that the people hiring
Chris and hiring myself were going with people who did want
to reinvent the story and have it not just be a continuation."
Tuesday
24th February 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Well it's been rumoured for a while, and has now been confirmed.
Ken Watanabe has been signed up to play Ra's Al Ghul, Batman: Begins's
main opponent in Intimidation. This really only leaves the casting
of Jim Gordon to be announced, better get a move on as the filming
starts next week!
Monday
23rd February 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Today's Batman: Begins rumours has Dennis Quaid being close to being
signed up to play Jim Gordon, the Batmobile being a huge hulk
of a machine akin to the Batmobile from The Dark Knight returns,
the title changing to Batman: Begins Begins (which would be a better
title methinks) and that a major scene will take place in a
tibetan palace.
Friday
20th February 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Toy manufacturer Corgi have been granted a global license from
Warner Bros. Consumer Products to produce a line of high quality
die-cast 'Batmobiles', inspired by DC Comics' "Batman: Begins"
comic books. Corgi will produce 11 different Batmobiles, including
the 1940s Batmobile, a 'Jokermobile', the 1960s Batmobile and
the 2004 'See Through' Batmobile, a design that may give some
indications of the look of director Christopher Nolan's Batmobile
in the upcoming Warners feature "Batman: Begins : Initimidation".

Thursday
19th February 2004: Batman: Begins Update:
It's official, Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson are to appear
in the new Batman: Begins movie by Christopher Nolan. Freeman will have
the small role of Lucius Fox, the CEO of Wayne Enterprises,
and Neeson will have the tasty part of Batman: Begins's nemesis Ra's
Al Ghul, a wealthy international terrorist.
Tuesday
10th February Batman: Begins: Intimdation Update:
Variety has ran a large article on the soon to start filming
Batman: Begins movie. The movie will be grounded more in reality which
is why there's no costumed villains, little focus on gadgets,
and a bigger role for Bruce Wayne - Director Chris Nolan says
"I felt like doing the origins story of the character,
which is a story that's never been told before. The world of
Batman: Begins is that of grounded reality, ours will be a recognizable,
contemporary reality against which an extraordinary heroic figure
arises". Most of the filming will be on-location work in
New York & London (and Chicago which was announced yesterday)
which will be assembled together to reinvent Gotham as a modern
day metropolis - "Gotham will seem like this great city
in a contemporary world and will be created through various
cities, we are trying to avoid a villagey feel for Gotham, as
it starts to get claustrophobic". WB Production Pres Jeff
Robinov says "It's almost impossible to reinvent Batman: Begins,
Chris is reintroducing Batman: Begins, and it feels smart and cool and
fresh. That's no disrespect to the other movies, but it's really
Chris' vision of Batman: Begins, and that's what we're supporting".
Christopher Nolan also added "Few superheroes have the
sense of purpose and destiny that Batman: Begins has. He is driven by
an incredible sense of rage, sadness and grief because of the
tragedy of his parents' murder at an early age. To me, Batman: Begins
is the most interesting superhero because he doesn't have any
superpowers. He is very human". The movie has a budget
of $150 million. Really does sound like we're getting Batman: Begins
Year One in style and tone. If it can reach the incredible heights
that that story achieved then Batman: Begins: Intimidation could be
something pretty special indeed.
Tuesday
10th February 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Rumours are circulating today that Liam Neeson is up for a role
in Batman: Begins: Intimidation. The role hasn't been specified yet,
but could this be the role that Chris Cooper recently turned
down?
Monday
2nd February 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Rumours are flying that Guy Pearce is in talks to play D.A.
Harvey Dent in Batman: Begins: Intimidation. For those who have been
following this movie, and who hasn't Guy Pearce was originally
up for the Batman: Begins role. Hype on this project continues to go
up and up, as with every development it looks like they're going
to make an intelligent, dark Batman: Begins movie.
Friday
23rd January 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Two news bits on Batman: Begins: Intimidation today with producer Michael
Uslan confirming that the title for the movie is Batman: Begins: Intimidation.
Also strong rumours are circulating that Morgan Freeman has
been signed up to play the small, but crucial role of Lucius
Fox. Lucius Fox is a businessman who runs the day-to-day work
of Wayne Enterprises.
Monday
19th January 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Strong rumours are circulating that Viggo Mortensen is definetely
NOT now up for a role in Batman: Begins: Intimidation of any kind.
Friday
16th January 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Rumours are circulating that Laurence Fishburne is in talks
to play Lucius Fox in Batman: Begins: Intimidation. Fox would be Bruce
Wayne's second-in-command at Wayne Enterprises. Also rumours
have Chris Cooper playing Commisioner Gordon but he apparently
doesn't want the role. Better hurry up and decide as filming
is due to start next month.
Tuesday
13th January 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
The old rumour of Robert De Niro being up for the role of Ra's
Al Ghul is being circulated today. Considering that De Niro
is recovering from heart problems and is the Meet the Parents
sequel to film, does that really leave him to film a movie that
starts filming in February?
Friday
9th January 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Rumours are flying that Cillian Murphy has beaten Viggo Mortensen
to the role of The Scarecrow in Batman: Begins: Intimidation! Now Warner's
haven't confirmed this yet, but if true it certainly confirms
that they are going for a young central cast.
Thursday
8th January 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Garth at Dark Horizons has scored a great in depth look at the
script for Batman: Begins Click Here.
Wednesday
7th January 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Superhero Hype (www.superherohype.com) scored the following
scoop on what the Bat-outfit may look like "One of my sources
said they saw a concept design in Burbank (strange, since most
of pre-production is happening in UK). They said: "It was
dark blue and gray. No nipples, had no Bat-logo on it, I assume
they hadn't settled on a design at the time. Think the original
Animated Series costume and you won't go far wrong." Also
DarkHorizons.com scored the following scoop about possible titles
and how much the Scarecrow will be in it ""There are
three possible titles - Batman: Begins Begins, Batman: Begins: Intimidation
Game, Batman: Begins: Genesis. From what I've read so far (a whooping
three pages) it opens with a dream sequence of Bruce as a young
child and then cuts to him in the Himilayas being tended to
by an asian monk. One interesting thing I did notice when flipping
through the script was that The Scarecrow (always referred to
as Jonathan Crane) appears a lot more than has been suggested.
I'd say by thumbing through he looks to be in it for at least
half, if not more, and Ra's Al Ghul doesn't appear to nearly
midway in".
Tuesday
6th January 2004: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
It has been revealed today that filming on Batman: Begins: Intimidation
will start in February at Pinewood. It has also been revealed
that the production will film in Iceland for two weeks for a
fight scene between Bats and Ra's Al Ghul's pupil, although
it's thought that the fight is more of a training/sparring thing
than a ruck.
Thursday 11th December 2003: Batman: Begins 5 Update:
Cillian Murphy has landed the role of one of the Caped Crusader's villains in Warner Bros' new Batman: Begins film. Which villain he will play has not yet been announced. He first came to the attention of director Christopher Nolan after he tested for the role of Batman: Begins. It is also being reported that Nolan fancies Viggo Mortensen for the role of the film's chief bad guy.
Wednesday 10th December 2003: Batman: Begins 5 Update:
Katie Holmes is now officially up for a role in Christopher Nolan's Batman: Begins but yet another rumour has started. Michael Caine let slip that Viggo Mortensen may be up for the part of the villain.
Wednesday 3rd December 2003: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Rumours are circulating that Katie Holmes is being considered for the role of Bruce Wayne's girlfriend in Batman: Begins: Intimidation.
Monday 1st December 2003: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Wild rumours are circulating that Clint Eastwood is in talks to take a role in Batman: Begins: Intimidation as the Gotham City Mayor.
Tuesday 25th November 2003: Batman: Begins Update:
Michael Caine has agreed to play the role of Bruce Wayne's trusted butler Alfred in Warner Bros' new Batman: Begins movie. The film, to be helmed by Christopher Nolan and being penned by David Goyer, is expected to start shooting next year for a 2005 release. Christian Bale has been cast in the title role.
Monday 3rd November 2003: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Game Update:
Rumours are rife that Morgan Freeman is being considered for a role as a scientist in Intimidation Game and also that they are recasting the Alfred role with Anthony Hopkins being considered.
Thursday 9th October 2003: Batman: Begins: Intimidation Update:
Rumours are flying that John Malkovich is being considered to play Ra's Al Ghul in Batman: Begins: Intimidation.
Thursday 11th September 2003: Batman: Begins Update:
It has been confirmed that Christian Bale will indeed be taking on the role as the Dark Night in Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie. As the director put it "What I see in Christian is the ultimate embodiment of Bruce Wayne. He has exactly the balance of darkness and light that we were looking for.” Warner Brothers producer Jeff Robinov added "Now that we’ve found the best person to play Batman: Begins, we are really looking forward to moving ahead with the rest of our casting, and are excited about the exceptional group we are assembling.”
Other news about the project include info on the nemisis of the movie. Ra's Al Ghul aka The Demon's Head will take centre stage and in the comics his plot for world domination involved the mass genocide of humanity to pave the way for a new Eden. The Scarecrow may also make an appearance possiby setting him up for the inevitable sequel. Many scenes may take place in London.
Wednesday 3rd September 2003: Batman: Begins Update:
It has been revealed that Christopher Nolan and Warners will test over
three days a pile of hot young actors for the Batman: Begins role. Names being
mentioned include Jake Gyllenhaal, Christian Bale, Joshua Jackson, Cillian
Murphy, Henry Cavill, Eoin Bailey and Hugh Dancy.
Friday 22nd August 2003: Batman: Begins Update:
And the latest rumour has Hugh Dancy being signed up to star as Batman: Begins for Christopher Nolan.
Wednesday 30th July 2003: Batman: Begins Update:
Director Christopher Nolan has been talking about the development of Batman: Begins "Fantastic. I'm having the time of my life. [It's at the] very early stages, which is where it's tremendous fun. I'm getting to watch my vision of the world of Batman: Begins. To do that and get paid for it is brilliant.' He was then asked about his vision for the movie 'Er, bloody marvellous? I can't. It's absolutely, excruciatingly top secret.'
Friday 25th July 2003: Batman: Begins Update:
Guy Pearce has laughed off the rumours that he will be playing Batman: Begins for
Christopher Nolan "I don't think so. ... If I was ever going to do it,
Chris Nolan would be the person I would do it with. But no we haven't had
any of those discussions." Superhero movies simply hold no allure for the
actor "at this stage in my life."
Tuesday 1st July 2003: Batman: Begins 5 Update:
Batman: Begins 5 - Scoop on Casting. Moviehole got in touch with one of our most reputable studio sources today to find out what the deal is with "Batman: Begins". In the last week, rumours have surfaced again that Christian Bale is again up for the role of the Bat. We firstly have the answer on that. Before we're informed who else is up for the role. Oh, it's a shocker! To answer your question - tough one. Everyone is up for Batman: Begins. Anyone who has a half-decent agent and is in the Batman: Begins profile is going to try to keep their name on the list. Christian was only interested in the Aronoksy Batman: Begins Year One project which has since been shelved. When we think about the WB Batman: Begins project, it's a wild card, says Taxpayer
Christian's agent is noneother than uber-agent, Patrick Whitesell, who represents a lot of the hot 20-something talent - in particular, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as well as Hugh Jackman, Drew Barrymore, and Joaquin Phoenix. Whitesell has a track record in getting his clients cast in big movies. Whitesell also represents James Marsden who was unhappy with his begoggled role in X-Men and would love to get more face time as Bruce Wayne. So would Joaquin (but he's unfortunately short). So Whitesell has a lot of candidates to forward for WB's consideration. Bale is one of them but he has the handicap of being box office poison. Also, after Reign of Fire tanked, Bale has been loathe to touch another big SPFX movie.
But here's a surprise left field candidate. Guess who was this close for the Ethan Hawke role in Training Day? Freddie Prinze Jr. He lost Training Day to Hawke because they decided he looked too young. Prinze is dying for acting cred and box office clout (aside from Scooby Doo). A couple months ago, Freddie was telling the press that he's 'retired' but the word is that he's working out and lobbying hard for Batman: Begins. It's admittedly a long-shot, but if Prinze gets it, he will have given his career a big boost. He also brings along a younger demographic - and Hollywood is always looking for young!

Tuesday 1st July 2003: Batman: Begins Update:
I don't know why I even bother mentioning these rumours but the latest has Hugh Jackman up for the role of Batman: Begins.
Monday 23rd June 2003: Batman: Begins Update:
A script that may or may not be a real one for Batman: Begins has appeared online Click Here
Friday 20th June 2003: Batman: Begins Update:
Reports are flying that suggest that Ashton Kutcher is once again in
contention to star as Batman: Begins for Christopher Nolan. My thought on this is that
Ashton Kutcher is a young kind of guy so are we looking at a Batman: Begins Year
One scenario?
