Beauty Shop Synopsis:
Gina Norris (Queen Latifah) is a long way from the Barbershop – now she's in Atlanta making a name for herself at a posh Southern salon with her cutting-edge hairstyles. But when her flamboyant, egotistical boss (Bacon) takes it one criticism too far, she leaves his salon to open a shop of her own, taking the shampoo girl (Silverstone) and a few key clients (MacDowell, Suvari) with her. Gina buys a rundown salon and inherits an opinionated group of headstrong stylists (including Woodard), a colorful clientele, and a sexy upstairs neighbor (Hounsou). It's a rocky road to fulfilling her dreams, but you can't keep a good woman down…and you can't keep a shopful of outrageous women from speaking their minds!

Dondre T. Whitfield has joined urban comedy Beauty Shop, starring Vivica A.
Fox. Whitfield will play a smooth-talking hairdresser and ladies' man in the
comedy, which was written and is being directed by Mark Brown. The film
centres on a beauty shop owner who is fighting to save a pillar of her
inner-city neighborhood. Queen Latifah will be starring in a
similarly-titled, yet different project, a spin-off of the Barbershop films.

Wednesday 24th September 2003: Beauty Shop Update:
Word reaches us that Vivica A. Fox has taken over the role that was being developed for Queen Latifah in Beauty Shop, she will play Jenny Smith, who finds she is about to lose her beloved beauty shop, a pillar of her inner city neighborhood for generations, through an act of eminent domain just so the nearby water company can have a bigger parking lot. . The movie is being developed by Fox.

Tuesday 1st April 2003: Beauty Shop Update:
MGM apparently wants to open a new comedy franchise right next door to Barbershop with Queen Latifah as the proprietor, producer and star of Beauty Shop. Elizabeth Hunter (The Fighting Temptations) is in talks to write the film. The studio would launch the new franchise with a Latifah cameo in Barbershop 2, expected next winter, with her shop located next door to Ice Cube's. That would set up her starring role in the spin-off, which would be developed at the same time.
