Tuesday
11th January 2005: Be Cool:
40 new images from MGM's Be Cool can be seen over at Coming
Soon. Released on March 4th John Travolta returns as Chili
Palmer who becomes a different kind of "hit" man –
he abandons the movie industry to bring his wiseguy skills and
negotiation tactics to the music business. When a friend is
offed while they're at lunch, Chili takes the opportunity to
visit the guy's wife, Edie (Uma Thurman), and pitch himself
as her new business partner at an independent record label.
With a promising young pop-star-in-training as his protégé
(Christina Milian), Chili has to juggle her faux-urban manager
(Vince Vaughn), his gay, wannabe-actor bodyguard (The Rock),
Russian mobsters, and an eloquent gangsta music producer (Cedric
the Entertainer) to save the label and land a hit – and
keep from getting popped himself.

15th November 2004: Be Cool update:
MGM have launched the web site for Get Shorty sequel Be Cool
here.
Set to be released on March 4, 2005 John Travolta is back as
Chili Palmer in the sequel to the comedy smash Get Shorty. This
time, Chili becomes a different kind of "hit" man
– he abandons the movie industry to bring his wiseguy
skills and negotiation tactics to the music business.
Monday
1st November 2004 Be Cool Update:
Could this be the huge hit that John Travolta needs? After
a few years of less than brilliant box office, 2004 has soi
far proven to be an up year for Travolta. After the recent success
of Ladder 49 the omens certainly look good for Be Cool. It's
a sequel to one of his better movies, it co-stars Uma Thurman,
Vince Vaughn, Harvey Keitel and a host of others. Hell it almost
looks and feels like a sequel not to Get Shorty but to Pulp
Fiction, especially the scene where Travolta and Thurman get
down on the dance floor again. And finally it's directed by
F.Gary Gray whose just fresh from the success of The Italian
Job. Yup sounds like it could be a big hit! The US gets it on
4th March 2005.

Friday 5th December 2003: Be Cool, The Scorpion King 2, Spyhunter, T4, Predator 3:
Moviehole talked to The Rock today, who talked about his upcoming projects. He also confirmed that Uma Thurman and Vince Vaughn will be joining him on "Be Cool", the sequel to "Get Shorty".
Clint: They’re talking about you as someone that might replace Arnold for “The Terminator 4” or “Predator 3”. Would you be interested?
The Rock: I’ve heard that a lot actually. I don’t know. Thing is, Arnold has put so much into those roles. They’re his roles. I liked “Terminator 3” but I loved the first two movies, and “Predator”, the first one, is just fantastic.
Clint: You got to do a bit of comedy in “Welcome to the Jungle”. Was that fun?
The Rock: Sure. That was a lot of fun. I always wanted to do an action movie that also had comedy in it, like “Lethal Weapon” or “Midnight Run”. My Next movie is an even broader comedy role; I’m doing the sequel to “Get Shorty”. We start in February.
Clint: So not an action role then?
The Rock: No, purely a comedy role. What I’d like to do in my acting career is diversify myself, learn as much as I can about the process as possible. “Be Cool” is going to be great, it’s John Travotla, Uma Thurman, Vince Vaughn…we’ve got this huge cast. And get this: I play a bodyguard who wants to break into Hollywood, who can sing, and he’s gay! [Laughs]
Clint: You’ve got quite a full schedule, haven’t you?
The Rock: Yep, “Spy Hunter”, and then “Be Cool” and of course “Walking Tall” coming out soon. I’m not complaining though. It’s hard to believe sometimes. I mean 7 years ago, I had nothing to do.
Clint: Have we seen the last of “The Scorpion King”?
The Rock: Never say Never. I think so, but, well, I’d like to do another one. I mean, there’s such a big gap in timeline between the start of “The Mummy” sequel and the end of “The Scorpion King” that I think there’s a story in the middle there too. How he becomes and all.

Monday 17th November 2003: Be Cool Update:
Danny DeVito's Jersey Films will get this sequel to Get Shorty up and running in January to be directed by F. Gary Gray. John Travolta, James Gandolfini and DeVito himself will reprise their roles. Monday 27th October 2003: Be Cool Update:
Latest word from the Get Shorty sequel Be Cool is that casting notes have
been sent to actor's agents for a number of the film's lead parts. The notes
confirm that production is to begin on January 15 in Los Angeles and
indicate that producers are particularly interested in casting a recording
artist for the lead female role.
Thursday 16th October 2003: Be Cool Update:
MGM will begin production in January on Be Cool, the Get Shorty sequel which
F. Gary Gray will direct, with John Travolta reprising his role as Chili
Palmer. The studio is also courting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to play a
bodyguard-singer who develops an uneasy alliance with Palmer. Be Cool moves
the loan shark-turned film producer Palmer away from the feature film
business and into the music industry. Chili then witnesses the murder of his
music industry friend by the mob and agrees to manage an up-and-coming
singer. Then he's threatened by her mob-connected manager. The Rock would
play the manager's bodyguard, a big guy who wants to be a singer and who
happens to be gay. After beating him up in their first encounter, Palmer
tries to help the tough guy become a film star.
Friday 22nd August 2003: Be Cool Update:
MGM and Jersey Films are looking to sign up F. Gary Gray to direct Be Cool that will star John Travolta.

Monday 16th June 2003: Be Cool Update:
Brett Ratner is in talks with MGM to direct the Get Shorty sequel Be Cool.
The producers are hoping to get the movie into production by the end of
this year. But the deal may be held up as Brett Ratner is under to contract
to New Line Cinema for another movie that is thought to be Rush Hour 3.
Monday 16th June 2003: Be Cool Update:
Director Brett Ratner has been talking about development on Rush Hour 3, His Dark Materials , Be Cool and Samurai Jack "I just got the script for Rush Hour 3 today [June 3, 2003], so Im going to read it tonight after I leave here and if its good, Im going to do that. If not, Ive got a few other movies that Im trying to decide which one Im going to do. Id love to do Dark Materials. Im begging for Dark Materials. Its just a hard thing to tackle because its so much. Its three great books. Were trying to figure it out. Samurai Jack, were just developing the script. I love the script to Be Cool, which Im not doing, but Im interested in. I love it. I don't know, theres so much good stuff around".
Thursday 29th May 2003: Be Cool Update:
MGM are trying to sign John Travolta to return as Chili Palmer in Be Cool
the follow up to Get Shorty. Rumours are also circulating that they want
Brett Ratner to take the director's hotseat. No word on a timescale for
when Be Cool will be made, Travolta already has in his schedule The
Punisher, A Love Song For Bobby Long and Harvey. Ratner looks like he is
trying to set up Rush Hour 3 so Be Cool may be a longer term plan.
Friday 9th May 2003: Be Cool Update:
New Line apparently want director Brett Ratner to helm Rush Hour 3, but the
difficulty in making talent deals with Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan have him
eyeing Be Cool, the sequel to Get Shorty.
Updated : 26/7/01
John Travolta may return to do the sequel to the extraordinary hit and delight that was Get Shorty, although he hasn't confirmed or denied. Both MGM and production house Jersey Films want him to.
Benicio Del Toro was rumoured to be taking the role of Chilli Palmer (CA).
Rush Hour 2's director Brett Ratner is apparently interested in helming the feature.
