He's brave and powerful, aware of his fame and a little bit full of himself - the medieval equivalent of a rock star - aware, but not entirely happy, that a hero-myth is rising up around his exploits. Casting news today on Director Robert Zemeckis's Beowulf adaptation with the news that Crispin Glover looks to have been signed up as Grendel. Also signed up for the movie are Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Brendan Gleeson and Robin Wright Penn, but don't expect to see any of them on screen as they will all be motion captured in the same fashion as Zemckis did on Polar Express.

The project will be financed by Shangri-La Entertainment, which is currently in talks with Sony Pictures Entertainment to distribute all of its feature films. 1st June 2004: Beowulf & Grendel Update:
Gerard Butler has taken the lead of Beowulf in director Sturla Gunnarsson's adaptation of the epic poem about a Norse hero battling the troll Grendel. Although the title seems to suggest more of a bizarre love story!

Friday 12th March 2004: Beowulf Update:
Darclight Films has signed up Scott Speedman to star in their adaptation of the classic poem Beowulf. The script has been written by Andrew Rai Berzins and will be directed by Sturla Gunnarsson. The movie follows a young hero who leads a troop of warriors across the sea to help rid a village of a marauding monster. But here the conventions end. The code of the warrior is the law of the land and Beowulf is the greatest warrior of them all. He's brave and powerful, aware of his fame and a little bit full of himself - the medieval equivalent of a rock star - aware, but not entirely happy, that a hero-myth is rising up around his exploits. Beowulf prefers to see himself as an ordinary man, but for his particular skill in slaying monsters.

Monday 7th October 2002: Beowulf Update:
Director Roger Avary and Writer Neil Gaiman have got together and written an adaptation of classic poem Beowulf for Avary to direct. Avary has revealed he will try and stay true to the tale of the sixth century warrior, and interestingly he will not use CG for the monster Grendel, instead casting an actor. He had this to say about Beowulf "I want to do something that is on the scale of 'Excalibur'" . But he aint got the money t make it yet as he wil,l have to "go out and scrounge the money together".
