Friday 7th March 2003: Beyond The Sea Update:
Just received a ton of information on Beyond the Sea. The film will be co-produced by MDP Worldwide and by Spacey's Trigger Street Productions. Kevin Spacey, Arthur E. Friedman, Bernie Morris, Mark Damon and Sammy Lee will produce the film and Stewart Hall and Joanne Horowitz will serve as Executive Producers. Principal photography is slated to commence in June 2003.
The film recounts the story of Darin who was told that he would not live past his late teens due to a severe heart condition. He nonetheless set out at a young age to leave his mark on show business and to prove to the world that he could be a legend by the age of 25. He would become one of the biggest stars in the music industry with countless hit singles and an acting career that included an Academy Award nomination. The film also chronicles his romance and tumultuous marriage with movie star Sandra Dee and his coming to grips with unanswered questions about his past family life.
Spacey will play the lead role of Bobby Darin and the film will include many of Darin's biggest hits including "Dream Lover", "Mack the Knife," "Splish Splash" and "Beyond the Sea".
"Kevin's passion for Beyond The Sea is overwhelming and has consumed us as well. We know Kevin will be great as Bobby Darin, and that Beyond The Sea will be one of his most brilliant triumphs," stated Mark Damon. "We are proud to be associated with this project, and proud to continue our assciation with Trigger Street Productions, Kevin Spacey and Bernie Morris that started with The United States of Leland." The UK rights to distribute Beyond the Sea have been picked up by Entertainment Film Distributors.
