3rd October 2003: Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason Update:
Colin Firth has reportedly lost his voice on the set of the
new Bridget
Jones film after being thrown into a pond during a fight with
Hugh Grant.
The sequel sees a second brawl between Firth's character,
Mark Darcy, and
Hugh Grant's character, Daniel Cleaver, in which Firth ends
up being thrown
into a pond. “I spent a couple of days in a very, very
cold pond with Hugh
Grant, which socially was pleasant enough but has left me
a little worse for
wear," he explained. Firth also admitted that he had
reservations about
starring in the sequel to Bridget Jones' Diary. "It's
very odd actually, I
think most of us were sceptical. Obviously a sequel is fraught
with dangers,
but most of my fears were allayed the minute Renee opened
her mouth. I
thought there's a lot more life in this now, she's great and
we're going to
want to see a lot more of this." In the new film, Bridget
has moved in with
barrister Mark Darcy, but discovers domestic bliss is not
so blissful after
all.

Jacinda Barrett has joined the cast of Bridget Jones: The
Edge of Reason. Barrett will play Renee Zellweger’s
co-worker in the film, which is being directed by Beeban Kidron.

Update:
Principal
photography has started on Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
In
her first scene for the sequel, Renee Zellweger apparently
had to don a
skintight orange and yellow parachute jumpsuit which amply
emphasised her
fuller figure. The parachuting scene, in which she was hauled
up by a crane,
was being filmed at an RAF base in Buckinghamshire. To view

2nd October 2003: Bridget Jones Diary 2: Edge of Reason Update:
Renee Zellweger has revealed that she’s been steadily
putting on weight for
the Bridget Jones's Diary sequel. "It's really just math.
I've been eating
lots of really fattening food. I read that I'd been eating
doughnuts, but
they're not really my thing," she said. Zellweger has
been working with a
nutritionist who has been feeding her healthy food with hidden
fat.
Breakfast includes four slices of toast and cream cheese.
"That's just the
first course," Zellweger added. "It's a four-course
breakfast. I don't
really think about it because I'm usually doing something
else." The
sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, is scheduled for
release next
year.

Renee Zellweger has been talking about her weight-gaining
efforts for Bridget Jones sequel The Edge of Reason. "There
have been pages and pages written about me saying that I don't
want to do it again because I don't want to get fat again,"
she said in a recent interview. "That makes me angry
because that's not how I look at the work I do. That's a dumb
and shallow thing to say. If you love a character, then it
shouldn't be a big deal to turn yourself into her. In fact,
that's part of the joy of it. That's who Bridget is, she's
heavier than me, with a different body, and if I'm going to
play that character, I'm going to have that body, or what's
the point?"

Renee Zellweger was asked about developments on the Bridget
Jones sequel and she was suprisingly candid "It’s
something that has always been talked about and has been an
absolute for a very long time apparently. I’ve been doing
it for a very long time in the pages of periodicals where
I’ve never even been approached about it until very recently.
Last month we sat down and had a conversation about it and
it’s already been written about for a year that it’s
happening. It’s happening and she’s not gaining
the weight and it’s happening and she is! As far as it
goes in terms of doing it, I don’t know. We’re talking
about it. We’ve come to this trial and error agreement
because nobody wants to do it if it’s not worth doing.
They’re trying to make it as special as it should be
and so they’re trying on that end and that’s their
part of the thing. We’re working on the script and stuff
like that, just in case it’s good enough to make. And
on my end of things, I’m going to be ready, just in case.
" She was also asked about whether she would be putting
on the weight again "First of all, it saddened me when
I read that because I thought, that’s not indicative
of how I like to approach the work that I do. I love her.
I love everything about her and if we do her again, I want
her to be who she is. I want her to be authentic and part
of the joy of being that character was living in her and bringing
her to life in every way. I don’t want to do it again
if it can’t be authentic because what’s the point?
It saddened me because somebody gave me some words that don’t
belong to me that imply that I’m a different person than
I am and that I have a different value system than I do. It
suggests that I think being her was less valuable than being
a girl who runs and wears a different jean size and that’s
just not the case. She’s just different than I am."

to reprise his role as Mr Darcy again, as he feels that one

Word is that production on Bridget Jones: The Edge of
Reason will start this summer, the script has still to be
completed and none of the main stars have signed on and won't
until they see the final script.

The sequel to hit film Bridget Jones’s Diary will
go ahead with star Renee
Zellweger, according to the actress’ body double. Despite
Zellweger's
insistence that she has yet to see a script for The Edge of
Reason, not to
mention co-star Hugh Grant’s prediction that a sequel
will never happen, a
body double has already been booked for filming. Melinda Whiting,
who worked
on the massively popular original, has apparently confirmed
that she will
work on the new movie—suggesting that Zellweger will
