Tuesday 20th January 2004: Brothers Grimm Update:
Terry Gilliam was in attendance at last night's Big Fish premiere and Empire Online (http://www.empireonline.co.uk) got a few choice details out of him about Brothers Grimm "Well we've finished shooting! Now we're editing it. I actually saw the first assembly today for the first time, and, well, it's going to be busy for the next few months," says Gilliam. "There's hundreds of special effects shots. Part of it is editing in the dark, because you're trying to imagine extraordinary things. These are very different from their normal characters. They're cast completely against type, which is always a gamble, but when it pays off I love it," adds Gilliam. "The actors love it, and the audience likes waking up and discovering the world is different every day."

Friday 19th December 2003: Brothers Grimm Update:
Matt Damon has been talking about his Terry Gilliam collaboration Brothers Grimm. "It was really great," he said recently. "And Terry was everything that I could have ever hoped he would be. You know, watching Lost in La Mancha, you see how passionate he is, and what an incredible director he is and it was just really nice to work with him. I have huge, huge hopes for that movie. I think it could really be special. It's very funny and it's got a lot of fairy tale imagery in it and stuff that the Brothers Grimm ended up writing about."

Monday 6th October 2003: Brothers Grimm Update:
Peter Stormare has been talking about Terry Gilliam's Brothers Grimm "My character is very interesting, because he has both a light and a dark side to his personality. In the beginning, he is quite evil, but then he develops into a good guy. One might even say that the character is raving mad, but remember - this film is directed by Terry Gilliam, so he operates in an area ranging from John Cleese to the completely demonic. All the male actors I know have one dream - to play in a film directed by Terry Gilliam. He is both cult and king! Maybe he wasn't the mastermind behind Monty Python, but he was the one that kept the members together, he was the director, and he also created those incredible cartoons. So to me, acting in a film by Gilliam is a dream come true. I know Matt through our mutual pal Ben Affleck, and I also know Lena Headey, who plays another main role. Besides that, when you're shooting a film there is always a lot of waiting, so we have plenty of time to chat and get acquainted. But after everything's wrapped up, I never socialise with the other actors. We are working all day - when we were shooting outside Kutna Hora, I rose at five in the morning and returned to my apartment at 11 - so you just don't have the strength."

Friday 26th September 2003: Brothers Grimm Update:
Director Terry Gilliam has signed up Monica Bellucci to play the ruler of the forest, a woman who has found eternal life but not eternal beauty. She turns to the forest in order to procure the young virgins whose blood she needs to stay lovely.

Tuesday 8th July: Brothers Grimm Update:
Terry Gilliam is in his usual problematic filming mode with word reaching
us that he has still not recasted the role that Nicole Kidman had to pull
out of. No hurry for Gilliam on this as he only started filming last week,
he'll no doubt have a typhoon and major war to get through before worrying
about something as minor as casting!

Tuesday 15th April 2003: Grimm Brothers Update:
Here's some news on the forthcoming The Grimm Brothers, due in theaters February, 2004. Matt Damon and Heath Ledger star as the grim Grimm Brothers, and the story follows the duo as gatherers of wicked fairy tales and folk stories from around the globe. Shooting will begin soon in Prague, under the direction of Terry Gilliam, and I can't think of anyone better. Although Grimm fairy tales can be rather gritty, Gilliam reportedly will stop short of filming the true nightmares they are. Expect a more PG tone. Think Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings.Item: Mark Lerch
