Tuesday 3rd June 2003: Capturing The Freidmans Update:
Just
received the following info on Capturing the Friedmans
" CAPTURING THE FRIEDMANS, the award winning film
directed by Andrew Jarecki, broke the house box office
record for a documentary over the weekend at the New
York Angelika Theater with a staggering $36,768. The
film, which came close to matching Michael Moore¹s
documentary BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE in its opening weekend
in the same downtown New York City zone, did an overall
gross of $65,154 on three screens in New York City and
Great Neck.Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2003
Sundance Film Festival, CAPTURING THE FRIEDMANS has
garnered some of the strongest critical praise of the
year. It is a compelling and disturbing story about
a Great Neck family indicted for shocking crimes back
in the 80's. The film follows their story from
the public¹s perspective and, most remarkably,
through unique footage of the family in crisis, shot
contemporaneously by family members inside the Friedman
house. As the police pursue the investigation, and the
community reacts, the fabric of the family begins to
unravel, revealing disturbing questions about justice,
community, FAMILY, AND ULTIMATELY TRUTH.The
film¹s distributor, Eamonn Bowles, President of
Magnolia Pictures, comments, "We're absolutely
thrilled by the film's opening and even more excited
about it's prospects to come. The audiences have been
electric, with discussions consistently raging in the
lobbies well after the film has ended. People who see
this film can not stop talking about it." CAPTURING
THE FRIEDMANS is directed by Andrew Jarecki, produced
by Jarecki and Marc Smerling, associate produced by
Jennifer Rogen and edited by Richard Hankin. Adolfo
Doring served as the director of photography and the
score was composed by Andrea Morricone. The film opened
in New York on May 30, 2003 and will open nationally
June 13th. "
