Tuesday 27th January 2004: Catwoman Update:
Mark at HNR has been in touch with the following "Details are still coming in but we received a call from our spy on the set of Catwoman this morning as Halle Berry was rushed to St. Paul's Hospital in Downtown Vancouver around midnight last night. She was hit by a boom while doing some physical work at the Performing Arts Center (formerly Ford Center). Catwoman has been there for the last week and a half doing special effects/stunt work and was set to move on this week. No word if Halle will be taking a few days off to recover but supposedly her stay at the hospital was brief (a few hours) and she was more shaken than anything."

A Catwoman fan is asking for a boycott of the Catwoman movie on the grounds that they are changing the character so that Catwoman is a super power that 9 women are going to get. Word reaches us that Halle Berry's character in Catwoman will now be called Patience Phillips.

Monday 3rd November 2003: Catwoman Update:
Halle Berry has been talking about Catwoman:
"I had to resist mimicking Eartha Kitt. That's so in my inner-psyche.I'm finding her (her character). She's fierce. She's nothing nice. She's working at a cosmetics company when we first meet her. When she becomes Catwoman, she
must make her own costume. Leather pants, they're all slashed up. It's sort of a very bare sort of top that has belts. She makes this from an outfit that she has at home. So, they're belts wrapped around. She's got a bandanna tied around her face with ears, with the cat ears. The good thing about our movie is we acknowledge all the Catwomen of the past. We believe that there are nine Catwomen and I'm just one of them. There's been five already, so I guess I'd be sixth. Five or six. So I'm my own version. She's a little more urban. I'm hoping they will think she's really sexy and like her and also be scared to death of her, too."

Wednesday 8th October 2003: Catwoman Update:
Mark at HNR has done it yet again.

HNR Caught up with Catwoman again today for Sharon Stone's first day of filming. Be prepared these pictures will make your jaw drop! The pics show Patience Price (Halle) playing Basketball at a Community Fair.We also have some pictures of Halle Berry's stunt double rehearsing an intense stunt scene to be shot over the next few evenings. The scene involves Catwoman rescuing a man in distress on a Ferris Wheel. The rigging involved in this sequence is enormous with one 5 story scaffold erected on Cambie Street and the other side rigged off of the Old Woodwards Building.Click Here

Monday 6th October 2003: Catwoman Update:
Mark at HNR done it again "We've got a few more pics to wet your appetite of Halle Berry in Vancouver, 2 shots with the suit on and another of her as "Patience Price". The Cat Suit controversy still rages with many questions such as was the catsuit pictured in Time Magazine picture maybe a prototype? Does the "Catwoman" character change outfits as time goes by and become more provocative and cat like? The latter is what we've been hearing here in town.
Thanks to scooper "Goonies Never Say Die" who sent in 5 scanned pages of the shooting script. The scene involves "Catwoman" going to a nightclub and having a run in with "Armando" played by Micheal Massee and reciting such crap dialogue as "Kitty want whip now" and "Cat got your tongue". HNR is able to verify the identity (and validity of the pages) of the scooper as the scene was shot last week at the Rogers Sugar Building in Vancouver.
Cast Notes: Sharon Stone's is now in town and set to shoot her 1st scene next week, also her characters full name is "Laurel Hedare". Alex Borstein is set to play "Sally ". Still no word if in fact Frances McDormand has signed on to the picture to play one of "Laurel's" henchmen or is that henchwoman?"

Thursday 2nd October 2003: Catwoman Update:
Alex Borstein and Michael Massee have joined the cast of Catwoman. Borstein,
best known for her comedic work on Fox's Mad TV, will play Halle Berry's
best friend. Massee will get the chance to go toe-to-toe with Berry by
playing the movie’s heavy.

Tuesday 30th September 2003: Catwoman Update:
The first look online look at Halle Berry in her Catwoman costume has surfaced. To take a look click here. OK, once you've gotten over that (which is claimed to be a test shot), take a look at Halle on set in rather more sensible attire here.

Monday 29th September 2003: Catwoman Update:
Mark at HNR has done it again "
HNR was present today at Hastings and Hornby in Downtown Vancouver for the start of principle photography on DC's 1st comic book feature since 1997's "Batman & Robin". It was an exciting time with flocks of tourists and paparazzi all over the place. We would like to commend WB's production personnel for their courtesy in dealing fairly with the crowd.
Now here come the pictures. The scene being shot today involved Patience Price(Halle Berry) walking down the street carrying a box containing the Egyptian Mao cat. We were able to snap a few shots of Halle Berry conversing with French Director Pitof, along with some shots of the general area, Catwoman's motorcycle and what could be Gotham City license plates(depending on if the film is set there or not) Click Here
Also we received the official synopsis submitted to the city by the production office:
"Catwoman" is a feature film based on characters created by DC Comics. In this new adventure Patience Price, a mild mannered graphic artist, is murdered in order to keep her silent about an accidental discovery she made. An ancient myth is played out, when an Egyptian Mao cat, indebted to Patience for saving her it's own life, breathes life back into the young woman. Patience is reborn with an independent attitude, carefree behavior and the heightened senses of a cat. Now she must investigate the circumstances behind her murder and learn to accept both parts of herself."

Monday 22nd September 2003: Catwoman Update:
Bonny has been in touch with the following "Julia Roberts' ex, Benjamin
Bratt has secured the role of Detective Tom Lone, a Lake City cop. He has hot feelings for Vet, Patience Price (Halle Berry), the apprentice of Selena Kyle - whom Michelle Pffiefer
played in the 'Returns' movie - and whom is expected to return again with
Christian Bale, minus the tight suit."

Thursday 18th September 2003: Catwoman Update:
Benjamin Bratt has signed on to appear as Detective Tom Lone and Halle Berry's romantic interest. Sharon Stone plays the nemisis with Lambert Wilson as her husband. Reports hint that Frances McDormand may also appear as Stone's right-hand woman.

The movie, set in Lake City, is the story of Patience Price, played by Berry, a veterinary scientist who takes on the identity of Catwoman in her fight against the evil plots of the cosmetics company for which she works. Shooting begins on the 29th of September with French director Pitof at the helm.

Friday 13th June 2003: Catwoman Update:
Village Roadshow have reportedly pencilled in Catwoman” starring Halle
Berry, for a September 2004 theatrical release in Australia.

Friday 9th May 2003: Catwoman Update:
Warner Bros big screen adaptation of DC Comics' feline fatale "CATWOMAN" is being scheduled for a September start date in Vancouver, starring Halle "Storm" Berry as 'Patience Price' the "Catwoman" and Owen "Shanghai Noon" Wilson as love interest 'Detective Tom Lone'.Berry is currently wrapping up ghost-feature 'Gothika' in Montreal (with co-stars Penelope Cruz and Robert Downey Jr.) portraying a psychiatrist framed for the murder of her husband by a 'vengeful' spirit. The original comic book "Catwoman" was 'Selina Kyle', created in 1940 by writer/artist Bob "Batman' Kane."My girlfriend was kind of handy as a seamstress, and she made a cat costume in which she posed as my model for the character," said the late artist recalling the origins of "Catwoman"." ... a cat has nine lives, so I figured that whenever she was caught, or wounded, she would survive and live to fight again. Also, I feel there's something very mysterious about cats, and I equate that with women."Prepping for the project, French director "Vidocq" Pitof said " ...Catwoman is a superhero with a strong foundation ... she's a sex symbol of cat-like femininity, which to my sense is on an entirely different path than that of traditional superheroes."The main idea is to develop a female superhero and give her depth ... not to make her a bimbo or a sexy vigilante. She's a woman's hero for women."Regarding the casting of Halle Berry, Pitof said , " ... We needed someone who could equally give the convincing performance of two distinct personalities: the cat and the woman."" ...It's always difficult when you have such an icon or symbol, but everything is going to be different: there will be no direct link with 'Batman', nor will there be Batman-esque imagery and it won't be set in 'Gotham City'. "The idea is to begin her story from scratch." Thanks to Michael Stevens http://www.commandentertainment.com

Thursday 8th May 2003: Catwoman Update:
Michael Stevens of Commander Entertainment has weighed in with the following report on Canadian Filming "The Canadian film production scene is picking up again, now that the spirng/summer season is here :Gene Hackman and Ray Romano continue filming "Mooseport" on the streets of Toronto, while "Dawn Of The Dead" takes over the city in June.
"Resident Evil 2" (with the same cast/crew as the first) is prepping for a July start.
In Vancouver, 13 productions are on the slate, including Lions Gate's $10 million feature "Final Cut", starring Robin Williams. Premise of the futuristic film centers on a 'cutter' (Williams) who edits 'life-recording events" via a chip implanted in people's brains. Shooting is scheduled for 2 months starting in June.
Kevin "Platinum" Bray is getting ready to direct MGM's "Walking Tall" with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, starring as 'Buford Pusser', the real-life Tennessee sheriff who waged a one-man battle against the criminal element in his small town.
And it looks as though Warner Bros."Catwoman", starring Halle Berry and Owen Wilson will be shooting in Vancouver, with a September start date.
And Infogrames "Alone In The Dark" vid-game is coming to the big screen, with a summer start date, to be directed by Uwe "House Of Dead 2" Boll. " Thanks to Michael http://www.commandentertainment.com

Thursday 17th April 2003: Catwoman Update:
Pitof has been talking about the state of play with the long in development Catwoman movie " The idea is to develop this character in a relatively realistic world à la Spider-Man. We'll probably set it in the near future but in a North American urban setting, which is more classic. The main idea is to develop a female superhero and give her depth not to make her a bimbo or a sexy vigilante. She's a woman's hero for women". However Batman fans shouldn't expect much - "There will be no direct link with Batman, nor will there be Batman-esque imagery and it won't be set in Gotham City. The story will be different and the costume will be different. We aren't keeping anything from Catwoman except the original idea: the character. The idea is to begin her story from scratch, and possibly begin a franchise".

Friday 14th March 2003: Catwoman Update:
Halle Berry is reportedly favourite to bag the lead in Catwoman, which
French helmer Pitof will direct later this year. Ashley Judd was previously
attached but dropped out. Although no deal has been made, Berry is expected
to get her claws into the part quickly. She'd be the second black woman to
play Catwoman after Eartha Kitt’s turn in the 1960s TV series.

Friday 7th March 2003: Catwoman Update:
Word is that Nicole Kidman does not want to sign a three picture deal for Catwoman. And that is seriously holding up development of the project.

Monday 3rd March 2003: Catwoman Update:
Owen Wilson's character in Catwoman will be called Tom Lone leads the investigation into Catwoman, but he doesn't realise his mousy next door neighbor and prospective girlfriend is Patience Price aka Catwoman

Friday 28th February 2003: Catwoman Update:
Rumours are floating around that Owen Wilson has signed on for a role in Catwoman. No confirmation on this yet.

Wednesday 5th February 2003: Catwoman Update:
Rumours are circulating that Nicole Kidman is in negotiations with Warner Brothers to star as Catwoman, she is thought to be interested but is waiting for the latest script before she inks on.

Tuesday 21st January 2003: Catwoman Update:
Word reaches us that Ashley Judd is still signed up to play Catwoman negating the rumours that Halle Berry was attached. The movie is thought to be starting filming in the spring of this year with Denise DiNovi producing and Pitof directing, with the script having been worked on by Kate Kondell and John Rogers. Owen Wilson has widely been rumoured to co-star but no confirmation on this yet as he is thought to be starting filming on Starsky & Hutch this spring so would have to ditch one of them. And the plot? Catwoman will be called Patience Price an orphaned veterinary scientist whop wages a vendetta against industrialist Simon Church, the man whose corporate assassins "killed" her. She wants to find out why and exact her revenge. Lake City is shocked that a new Catwoman is prowling their streets.

Monday 20th January 2003: Catwoman Update:
Rumours are flying that Ashley Judd is being replaced as Catwoman by Halle Berry. The reason being cited is that Judd is too busy on other projects, my question is, isn't Halle who has over seven movies in development? Other news is that Owen Wilson will play a character called Tom Lone and Ellen Pompeo will play a vixen. Batman will not feature and the script has had a rewrite by John Rogers.

1st July 2002: Catwoman Update:
As a part of Warner Brothers recently unveiled release shedule, it seems that Catwoman will hit theaters in 2004 rather that in the summer of 2003 as originally intended. This news coms with plans to release a movie featuring both Batman and Superman in the same year (possibly summer 2004). John Rogers (The Core) is currently writing the script for Catwoman and French director Pitof (Vidocq) is still attached to direct.

7th May 2002: Catwoman Update:
IGN Film Force report that Owen Wilson may play Tom Lone, a former Gotham City police detective now working in Lake City.

Lone used to work the super-hero cases back in Gotham so he has little patience for a certain feline femme fatale who is now prowling his new beat in Lake City. Lone doesn't realize that Catwoman is also Patience Price, his mousy next door neighbor and prospective girlfriend.

Wilson still hasn't oficially commited to the project yet, but sources say that he'll wait to see who else commits before he makes a decision.

6th May 2002: Catwoman Update:
The Stax Report have posted a review of John Roger
's screenplay for Catwoman. The script is dated March 19 2002, and here's a little from Stax's review, with a few minor spoilers,

John Rogers' Catwoman script retains quite a few elements from Kate Kondell's [previous writer's] draft. The title character is still "Patience Price" but rather than being a pet groomer she's now a veterinary scientist working in the research division of GeneCo, a major biotech firm run by conniving industrialist Simon Church. (The villain in Kondell's draft was also an evil businessman but he had a different master plan.) Patience's ditzy best friend is Sally who works at the zoo where Patience volunteers. Police detective Tom Lone, another holdover from Kondell's draft, is Patience's love interest and Catwoman's pursuer.....

......Rogers, however, has cooked up a neat twist to the Catwoman mythos. He makes good use of the notion of cats having nine lives. An "origin of Catwoman" opening sequence sets up this idea nicely and creates a convincing albeit fantastical explanation for how cats can do wacky things like resurrecting dead women.

Check out the full review of the Catwoman screenplay over at IGN Film Force.

8/4/02: Catwoman Update:
French helmer Pitof is set to make his English language feature debut with Catwoman according to The Hollywood Reporter. Pitof, a visual effects supervisor who has worked on such projects as Alien: Ressurection, Les Visiteurs and The Messenger: The Story Of Joan Of Arc will direct Ashley Judd as leasther clad Catwoman.

Catwoman herself will apparently be a "a cat-loving gymnast who runs an animal grooming business. While she is a vulnerable woman, her alter ego, Catwoman, is superconfident and must battle against the town's evil mayor and his business associate."

13/12/01
: Catwoman Update:
SciFi.com reported the following yesterday;

"Michelle Pfeiffer--who played Catwoman in 1992's Batman Returns--told SCI FI Wire that she supported Ashley Judd's casting in the upcoming Catwoman film, and offered some advice for Judd. "I think she'll be great," Pfeiffer said in an interview. "You just have to constantly remind yourself to have fun with it. I hope her outfit is a lot more comfortable than mine, and make sure the mask fits. It was squishing my face for half the movie. And make sure they give you a place to go to the bathroom, a little something. They don't think about that." "They like to change," she said. "Like with Batman, there's always a new person playing [him]. I thought about it for a while, but [Batman Returns director] Tim Burton isn't involved in it, and I really would have wanted to do it with him. So, it was really, for me, his vision that made it so special." (appeared at SciFi.com)

The site also reported that Judd's character in the film will not be named Selena Kyle (as in Batman Returns), but a new character named Patience Price (as reported below back in April)

Previous Catwoman Update - Catwoman is a project that was much talked about after Michelle Pfeiffer's truly stunning performance in the Catwoman role in Batman Returns. The project languished in development hell for a few years but has now came back to hot property after the news that Ashley Judd has signed on to the role. Here's what we know so far.

The movie was originally palnned to fill a hole until the next Batman movie was ready. But Joel Schumacher made a mess of that franchise so that delayed that franchise's return for a few years at least.AICN is reporting that Warner Bros. may be considering a Catwoman feature film. Not long after news came out that a project was being developed came through the news that it had been killed off.

And that was all that was heard of the project for a couple of years then news popped up on the net that a new script had been prepped by a Kate Kondell for producer Denise Di Novi, who some of you might know as Tim Burton's producer.

Then the main news dropped that Ashley Judd had signed up for the project taking the lead role of Catwoman.

That script then appeared to be junked in favour of one by John Rogers, which is thought to be less cartoonish than the first one. The rumour is that on the first script Catwoman wasn't Selina Kyle she was Patience Price. It now appears that Ashley Judd didn't like the Patience Price role as it was a bit goofy.

That all happened recently so how long will this project take to come to the screen , I have no idea, but I would say it is looking hopeful.
