Vin Diesel is getting revved up over his Pitch Black sequel, The Chronicles Of Riddick. The film sees him do battle with a group of crusading religious fanatics led by an evil tyrant. Speaking from the set of the film, he said: "We're not making a movie, we're making a universe. What's so interesting about Riddick is that he has to struggle just to understand the purpose or relevance of heroism. It's about existing your whole life without any sense of identity, and not knowing where you come from, and not knowing who you are, or why you exist."

Thursday 16th January 2003: Chronicles Of Riddick Update:
The producers of Riddick have answered the criticisms that the first script for Riddick attracted from an online review "That's not the version we're making. We had the same problems with ALL early drafts that the reviewer did: Basically, it felt like someone was remaking the first movie -- and spending a shitload more money to do it. We're moving on to new planets and new situations, even changing genres from horror to action/adventure. That's also why we choose to call it "Chronicles of Riddick" rather than "PB2." It's not so much a sequel as it is a new story that will take three films to tell".

Tuesday 14th January 2003: Chronicles of Riddick Update:
TNMC have had a look at the script for Riddick and here's a clip of what they had to say "There's only one interesting idea pursued in the story. They're slowly trying to humanize Riddick. Kyra is obsessed with him. She worships him. Her adoration is the only reason why he's on that mission. He seems to regret abandoning her after the events of the first film. There's a quasi-love story between him and Kyra. It's never fully explored. He also tends to a little girl, protecting her. He definitely appears to be more human but he still kicks ass beyond repair. I was intrigued by the futuristic world run by corporation. It had serious potential before we are sent to that god-awful Forest planet. I would have rather liked to see Riddick in that concrete jungle then into another unhabited landscape."

Friday 6th December 2002: Chronicles Of Riddick Update:
David Twohy was spotted at a recent talk and he was overheard discussing the in development Riddick movies that he is writing/directing and a rep was discussing the possibility of signing up Ray "Darth Maul" Park as a villain in the movies. Twohy did announce he is looking at a July 2004 release for the first movie and it will have a much larger budget that Pitch Black, due to Vin Diesel's increased star power.

Filming news today with the word that Cats and Dogs 2, Chronicles Of Riddick, Preacher, Scooby Doo 2, Treasure Island (live action), and an Urban Legend sequel will all film next year in British Columbia.

Saturday 12th October 2002: Chronicles Of Riddick Update:
Director/Writer David Twohy has been talking about the in production Pitch Black sequels "We're in pre-production. The script is finished and I've got my production designer on it. Right now we're calling the series the CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK. We're referring to them now as "C-1," "C-2" and "C-3." I'm plotting all three films as we pre-produce this first film. The reason why it's "Chronicles" and not "Pitch Black 2" is because that would give a false impression of this next film, because not only are we changing genres - the first one was a horror film and this one will be action/adventure/sci-fi - but we're also increasing the scope in such a way that isn't true to the original film as well. All I can say is that it takes that Riddick character and follows him through multiple worlds as he meets multiple adversaries. There's a lot of theology in it. If the first one justifies any follow-ups at all, then yeah, we're thinking of doing 2 and 3 together."

29th July 2002: Riddick Update:
Vin Diesel has been talking to Sci Fi.com about The RIddick Chronicles.

Vin Diesel told SCI FI Wire that he is confirmed for a trilogy of sequels to Pitch Black, the sleeper 2000 SF hit in which Diesel played a convict. The first of the three follow-up movies is titled The Chronicles of Riddick. "If you're familiar with the [J.R.R.] Tolkien novels, in the same way that Hobbit is prequel to The Lord of the Rings, Pitch Black is a prequel to The Chronicles of Riddick [trilogy]," Diesel said in an interview. None of the three Chronicles will be prequels to Pitch Black, as has been rumored, Diesel added.

The three films will deal with "the universe that Riddick is involved with," Diesel said. "It's got this extensive story that [director] David Twohy's putting together. He calls it the evil Star Wars." Diesel wouldn't reveal any more specific details, but did say why he chose to stick with the Riddick franchise, while turning down further Fast and the Furious movies.

And why was that? Click the link to find out.

24th June 2002: Riddick Update:
Word comes in today that the shoot for Riddick (Pitch Black 2) is planned to get underway in Vancouver this October.

7th June 2002: Riddick Update:
The Chronicles Of Riddick, or Pitch Black 2, is now officially named 'Riddick'. Universal has decided to dump 'The Chronicles Of...'. They've also decided to go with original writer/ director David Twohy's pitch for the sequel after mulling over drafts from David Hayter (X-Men) and Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind. Batman & Robin). Twohy said he thinks of this film along the same lines as MAD MAX where you could "take [the characters] to different places in subsequent films."

Universal also plan a third and indeed a fourth installment. Both will star the hotter than hot Vin Diesel in the title role of Riddick.

: Riddick Update:
Variety published a report today that revealed a little more about Universal Pictures' plans to produce a sequel to Pitch Black, entitled The Chronicles Of Riddick.

Universal initially balked at Diesel's $12.5 million asking price for the Radar-produced "Pitch Black" sequel "The Chronicles of Riddick" before eventually ponying up for that sequel, which will begin production later this year. Diesel and his reps have proved to be gutsy negotiators, which prompted the studio to go to the trouble of commissioning two "Furious" scripts, one of which was a prequel that could be made without Diesel if his sequel salary proved prohibitive.

8/2/02
: Riddick Update:
Rapper Ja Rule has confirmed that he will appear in The Chronicles Of Riddick, Pitch Black 2. "it's not scary, but it's like a creature movie. It's like 'Pitch Black 2.' We're on another planet and it's crazy. These creatures come out only in the dark, and we can only see in the dark. Vin's my dog, I shout him out on 'Smokin and Ridin' on my album [Pain Is Love]. He was in the studio with me that night when I recorded that. We were in there chillin'. I can't wait 'til we get going to Australia to shoot 'Riddick' and in Miami to shoot 'Fast and Furious 2'". Wow.

30/1/02
: Riddick Update:
The Chronicles Of Riddick will be the sequel to last years sleeper hit, and Vin Diesel's break out movie, Pitch Black. Diesel will reprise his role of Riddick in this, the sequel, and he'll get around £11 million in return. He'll begin work on this as soon as he completes XXX.

David Twohy, the director of the original Pitch Black will not return for this, instead he opts for Sci-fi flick Demon with a Glass Hand. The Chronicles Of Riddick has yet to get a replacement director.
