to June 3rd, 2005.

12th March 2004: Cinderella Man Update:
The US release date for Cinderella Man looks to have been pushed
back to 18th March 2005. This drops it out of the Oscars race,
and at a guess I'd say it will probably get pushed back again
to the end of 2005 for that years Oscar race. It is going to
be a Crowe/Howard project after all.
Friday
12th March 2004: Cinderella Man Update:
The award-winning "A Beautiful Mind" team of actor
Russell Crowe, director Ron Howard, and producer Brian Grazer,
will now be in Toronto April 19 to shoot "CINDERELLA MAN"
for Universal and Miramax.
Universal has delayed the picture's release until March 18 2005,
claiming it needs more time to mount a marketing campaign for
the Oscars. Originally set for a Dec. 17 release, the film had
been considered a potential Oscar contender in the 2004 race,
but now it will have to take aim at 2005 instead.
"Cinderella Man" was originally scheduled to have
started filming in Toronto January 1, but star Russell Crowe
didn't want to be on set when his wife, Danielle Spencer, gave
birth to their first child.
Crowe is still undergoing intense physiotherapy following his
"arthroscopic debridement and repair surgery" for
a dislocated shoulder, suffered during boxing training in Australia.
In 2000, he injured the same shoulder training for "Flora
Plum", weeks away from its production start. With sets
already built and film crew hired, that project was eventually
shelved.
But even before his injury, Crowe was already apprehensive about
filming in Toronto in March. "When I arrive in a cold climate
my body just goes brrrr," he told Australia's Sunday Telegraph.
"It's the coldest month there -- 37C below -- so you won't
catch me running outside. I'll get all my heavy stuff done here
first."
Imagine's Michael Rosenberg said the Dec. 17 release date for
"Cinderella Man" has always been a "blueprint"
and not set in stone, although 3 other competing studio films
are slated for release at that time, including Jim Carrey in
Paramount's "Lemony Snicket: A Series of Unfortunate Events",
Adam Sandler in James L. Brooks' "Spanglish" for Sony
and the Martin Scorsese Howard Hughes bio "The Aviator"
starring Leonardo DiCaprio for Warner Bros.
As for "Cinderella Man" boxing arena locations, Toronto's
Maple Leaf Gardens on Carlton Street will be used.
"We'll be shooting there a lot ... before they turn it
into a grocery store," Howard said about Maple Leaf Gardens,
former home to the NHL hockey team.
"We're trying to recreate New York in 1935. And we found
that for what we need, we were going to have an easier time
recreating New York here than we would in New York. I live in
New York, and that's where I'd rather be. But creatively I couldn't
even make an argument for staying there."
"There really are only two places I'm comfortable,"
Howard said. "One is my livingroom, the other is a set.
Every place else is a challenge for me."

11th February 2004: Cinderella Man Update:
Wardrobe fittings have been taking place all week for the 300
background performers (union and non-union) handpicked by director
Ron Howard for the upcoming spring "Cinderella Man"
shoot. A total of 7,000 performers showed up for the background
'go-sees' beginning in December. All the booked extras have
been told NOT to cut their hair as production will be buzzing
1930's haircuts, starting April 29. "Cinderella Man"
begins shooting in Toronto April 1.

Monday
2nd February 2004: Cinderella Man Update:
Russell Crowe has suffered a dislocated shoulder while training
for Cinderella Man in Australia. This will mean a delay to the
start of filming back to the start of April. Producer Brian
Grazer had this to say "I've never known any actor who
dedicates himself to a part with more intensity than Russell.
He approaches every role with a rigorous discipline, using his
mind, his body and his spirit. To prepare for his role as Jim
Braddock, Russell has been training with some of the foremost
boxing instructors in the world, and that commitment is what
led to the injury to his shoulder. All of us wish him a fast
recovery because we simply cannot wait to see him apply his
talent and training to this part."
Wednesday
7th January 2004: Cinderella Man Update:
Word reaches us that Paul Giamatti has been added to the cast
of Cinderella Man alongside Russell Crowe, Renee Zellwegger
and Craig Bierko. It is thought that Ron Howard will start directing
the project in Toronto on the 1st March.
Thursday 4th December 2003: Cinderella Man Update:
Craig Bierko (Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star) is in talks to step into the ring with Russell Crowe for period boxing movie Cinderella Man. Ron Howard is directing and producing. The film tells the tale of real-life heavyweight boxing champ Jim Braddock (Crowe). During the 1930s, Braddock was an aging boxer who made a comeback while trying to provide for his family during the Great Depression. Bierko will play Max Baer, Braddock's toughest challenger, a world heavyweight champion renowned for having killed two men in the ring.
Wednesday 3rd December 2003: Cinderella Man Update:
December 1 was a big day for Toronto background performers as they went for a casting call for the upcoming feature "Cinderella Man", featuring the same Oscar-winning "A Beautiful Mind" team of actor Russell Crowe, Director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer.
The 'look see' was arranged to get digital pix taken of 'Depression era' 1930's types. There were some interesting looking long-haired men there (heh) who I presume will be fitted with hats. The film itself is set in 1935, when boxer Jim Braddock came fighting back after 15 rounds to win the world heavyweight title. Howard does not traditionally use CGI BG, so the BG gig could run for 5 weeks continuity, playing patrons in the boxing arena stands.

Monday 24th November 2003: Cinderella Man Update:
The award-winning "Beautiful Mind" team of actor Russell Crowe, director Ron Howard, and producer Brian Grazer, will be in Toronto this March to shoot "CINDERELLA MAN" for Universal and Miramax.
Premise is the story of boxer 'Jim Braddock', who in 1935, in one of boxing's greatest upsets, defeated Max Baer in 15 rounds to become heavyweight boxing champion. Braddock was called "Cinderella Man", because he showed the world coming out of the Great Depression, that an underdog could go the distance and win the day.

Wednesday 20th August 2003: Cinderella Man Update:
Russell Crowe's impending fatherhood will delay production on Cinderella
Man. The Ron Howard-directed boxing drama, which also stars Renee Zellweger,
was scheduled for a January start but will now get underway on March 1.
Wednesday 9th July 2003: Cinderella Man Update:
It has been revealed that Renee Zellwegger has signed on alongside Russell
Crowe in Cinderella Man for Director Ron Howard. And she is getting a cool
$21 from Miramax and Universal to star in this and Bridget Jones: The Edge
of Reason. Bridget will film in the Autumn and Cinderella Man will film
next Spring.
Tuesday 4th February 2003: Cinderella Man Update:
Director Ron Howard has signed up Russell Crowe to star in Cinderella Man it has been announced today. Rewriting the script will be Akiva Goldman with Howard and Brian Grazer producing. Russell Crowe will star as Jim Braddock, a Depression-era fighter who became a folk hero, rising through the ranks to defeat heavyweight champ Max Baer in a 15-round fight in 1935. The movie is a joing development between Universal (US rights) and Miramax (International rights).
Tuesday 17th September 2002: Cinderella Man Update:
Cinderella Man is another project that Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are working on. They are thought to want Russell Crowe to star as Jim Braddock a boxer and folk hero during the Depression.
10th July 2002: Cinderella Man Update:
Not much is known about this sporting biopic at the moment, but both Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger are both in talks to star. The film still has no director, but that could change in the near future as Ron Howard may choose to go with this project after leaving the big budget western 'The Alamo'.
It seems that the studio have already penciled in a release around December 2003, ready for that all important Oscar run.
