1/4/02: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind Update :
US columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith have posted information on the characters featured in the George Clooney directorial debut Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind.

"Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" will certainly have some weird elements. This is the picture George Clooney's directing with Sam Rockwell playing former "Gong Show" producer/host Chuck Barris, who claims he led a double life as a CIA hitman. Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore are doing turns in the flick, as is Clooney himself. Brad Pitt's doing a cameo as a contestant in a "Gong Show"-type program. Now we hear additional show contestants are being cast, including an obese tap-dancer who taps especially loud because of his or her weight, but is not very good. And they've been looking for a folk song-singing Chinese woman who'll sport painted-on eyebrows ala Joan Crawford and sing in a depressing monotone. For those of you who remember "The Gong Show," all that probably brings back bad memories."

: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind Update :
Confessions Of A Dangerous mind is the directorial debut of George Clooney, based on the book by Chuck Barris. Chuck Barris, for those who don't know, is the American game show impressario behind The Gong Show, The Newlywed Show as well as The Dating Game amongst many others.

Barris penned the book Confessions of a Dangerous Mind: An Unauthorised Biography, strangely entitled as it is mainly ficticious. The film will be based around the secret life Barris, including the time he spent as CIA assassin "Sunny Sixkiller", making hits while under the guise of chaperoning the game show contestants who have won vacation prizes. The screenplay is by none other than Being John Malkovich scribe Charlie Kaufman.

In the lead role is Sam Rockwell, with Clooney playing the role of Jim Byrd, the CIA agent who recruits Barris. Supporting are Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore and we're promised cameos from producer Jerry Weintraub (Oceans Eleven) as an ABC bigwig plus Brad Pitt and Matt Damon who will play Gong Show contestants while child star Fred Savage will appear as a bellhop.

Filming kicked off on the movie back on January 15th in Montreal, Canada with a budget of $35 million. The release date has been set as December 27th 2002 for New York and Los Angeles with a wide release penciled in for mid January 2003.

Corona have posted a still of a poster that was displayed at Showest in Las Vegas last week. Click to check it out.
