Line has signed writer Scot Armstrong ("Starsky
& Hutch") to start work on "Elf
2." Armstrong was the last scribe to do
an uncredited rewrite on the original "Elf."
Mini-major is believed to have an understanding
with Will Ferrell that gives it confidence to
continue with the project, though there's no
deal with him, and the film doesn't have a greenlight.

New Line production president Toby Emmerich has revealed
they are in talks with Will Ferrell to return for Elf
2, but it will only happen if he returns "We're only
going to make this if it's with Will." No word if
Jon Favreau will direct the sequel, but Ferrell is thought
to be getting a rather cool $20 million to do it. Scott
Armstrong is thought to be writing the script.
