Directed by Stefen Fangmeier, the film is based on the Christopher Paolini-penned bestselling fantasy novel about a youth whose discovery of a dragon egg leads him to become a knight and battle an evil king.The movie stars Ed Speleers, John Malkovich, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, Robert Carlyle and Sienna Guillory.

are circulating today that 17 year old UK school
kid Edward Speleers has been signed up for the
lead role in the major role of Eragon in Fox's
big screen adaptation of the Christopher Paolini
novel. He apparently has no previous acting
experience.

Visual effects supervisor Stefen Fangmeier ("Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events") will make his directorial debut on "Eragon", based on the Christopher Paolini-penned bestselling fantasy novel about a farm boy whose discovery of a dragon egg causes him to become a knight and fight a wicked king. He is the last of a breed of benevolent Dragon Riders, whose magical powers derived from their alliance with the beasts. Peter Buchman ("Jurassic Park III") adapted the Fox 2000 feature. Filming starts in Europe in July.
