31st July 2002: Final Destination 2 Update:
Craig Perry, the producer of Final Destination 2, has been talking about the sequel's plot to Cinescape. Here's a little of what he said, for more hit the link above.

"We follow a totally different group of characters, which is something I like about it," Perry told us. "We only verbally reference the first movie once in the first 30 minutes. There are certain things that I think an audience will recognize and be aware of only because of their knowledge of the first movie – that makes the movie kind of fun."

Joblo have conducted an interview with David R. Ellis, the director of Final Destination 2. The first of a series of interviews, by the site's Arrow, revealed some details about the movie now shooting in Canada. Beware as there are heavy SPOILERS ahead.

ARROW: What are you going for with this film? Is it more suspense oriented, very gory, extreme stunt set pieces?

DAVID: We’re just trying to make a real movie that’s exciting and thrilling. The action isn’t carrying the film, the story is, but we have great action surrounding that and as far as the gore, obviously a lot of people die in the film and we make it very visually exciting but we’re still not going over-the-top with it.

ARROW: Was one of your goals to outdo the original in terms of creativity when it came to the kill sequences?

DAVID: No offence to the first one, but with every sequel you try to make it better than the original. For me, one of the best sequences was when the girl got killed by a bus so we tried to pattern sequences that would have as much shock value without making them hokey. Sometimes less is more but I think we have 9 great death sequences.

ARROW: What rating are you guys going for?

DAVID: This is definitely an R rating. Once you start chopping people’s heads off, it's hard to get away from it.

The interview also revealed that Ellis has signed on for another sequel, as long as this movie does well, which, it probably will. For the full interview go here.

The lead in the first movie, Devon Sawa, who also played the crazed fan in Eminem's music video Stan is not to return for the sequel. His absence from the second film are down to money and Sawa and the producers couldn't agree a figure.

Meanwhile Upcoming Movies have posted info that both Ali Larter (Clear Rivers) and Tony Todd (Bludworth) will appear in the sequel.

New Line Cinema yesterday announced that they have greenlighted the sequel to last years hit movie Final Destination. Final Destination 2 will be directed by David Ellis, a 2nd Unit director and stunt co-ordinator. Ellis has worked on films like The Matrix Reloaded, Harry Potter & The Sorcerers Stone, The Perfect Storm and Exit Wounds. He makes his feature debut here.

The film is written by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber who previousley collaborated together on the 1998 comedy Blunt. Bress acted and Gruber produced. As far as I can see, this is their screenwriting debut.
