17th July 2003: Garfield Update: Debra Messing will voice the role of Arlene

with Nick Cannon having been signed up to voice Louis a city mouse who befriends
Garfield and will save his life at one point in the movie.
Thursday 12th June 2003: Garfield Update: Further to rumours that
Odie was going to be a CG character, it now turns out he will be a real dog as
per our earlier stories. Bill Murray has apparently already completed his vocal
duties to allow the animators time to get to work animating Garfield.

Monday 9th June 2003: Garfield Update: It has been revealed today that
Garfield creator Jim Davis will cameo in Garfield as a drunken conventioner.

Monday 2nd June 2003: Garfield Update: Garfield
producer John Davis has been talking about the look of the CGI feline for
the forthcoming movie. He says that the title character, to be voiced by
Bill Murray, will look as though he is a real, live animal. "The goal
there is to make you believe that we found a cat that did all those things,
even though it was all created in a computer," he said in a recent interview.
"A tremendous amount of research and development has gone into making
that cat look absolutely real." But Garfield will still have the features
of traditionally animated and comic-strip characters as well. "He has
features like his ears and his eyes, and he's kind of a fat cat. He's bigger
than any cat you've seen. You've got those big paws. You'll look at him and
go, 'He's Garfield. That's Garfield.'"

Friday 29th May 2003: Garfield Update: Producer John Davis has been
talking about what Garfield will look like in the movie "The
goal there is to make you believe that we found a cat that did all those things,
even though it was all created in a computer, a tremendous amount of research
and development has gone into making that cat look absolutely real. He has features
like his ears and his eyes, and he's kind of a fat cat. He's bigger than any cat
you've seen. You've got those big paws. You'll look at him and go, 'He's Garfield.
That's Garfield.'"

Wednesday 28th May 2003: Garfield Update: Bill
Murray will voice the role of Garfield the Cat in the upcoming Garfield film.
The movie, based on the comic strip, features a sardonic cat who must tolerate
the indignity of being saddled with a nebbish owner (Breckin Meyer) and a
nitwit dog as housemates.

Monday 26th May 2003: Garfield Update: Principal Photography on Garfield
finished on the 7th May it has been revealed. Work is now underway on creating
the CG Garfield that is still to have a voice cast for. The movie is now being
planned for June 2004.

Monday 27th April 2003: Garfield Update: Rumours are circulating that
Chevy Chase has been signed up to take the role of Dr. Davis in Garfield.

Monday 21st April 2003: Garfield Update: In
a surprise move 20th Century Fox has pushed the flick back to June 4th, 2004 due
in part to post production work dragging on in the CGI heavy cartoon live action
adaptation. I will also note that casting issues might have been part of the problem
with the staring roles of Jon Arbuckle going to Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love
Hewitt as his girlfriend not being finalized until very late Feb 2003 and shooting
starting March 8th 2003 in Los Angeles. Item: Mark Lerch

Monday 31st March 2003: Garfield Update: Just received an update on Garfield
"the production company isn't Universal Pictures. It is actually 20th Century
Fox. Garfield.com now has an official movie news and information section online
(http://www.garfield.com/hot/movie/index.html)
which will feature press releases and photos as Fox makes them available. It currently
features a simple animated piece which shows the characters Jon Arbuckle and Liz
Wilson fading into stars Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The 20th Century
Fox Official Movie Website is still coming soon." Thanks to Jon!
