Lions Gate Films will distribute A Good Woman the adaptation of the Oscar Wilde play Lady Windemere's Fan. Helen Hunt, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Wilkinson appear against the backdrop of New York and the Italian Riviera in the 1930s, Hunt plays a woman -- with a reputation for entertaining wealthy, married men -- who becomes involved in a family scandal. Mike Barker directs the script from Howard Himelstein.

Brit actor Mark Umbers has been signed up to play Robert Windermere the husband of Scarlett Johnnsson's character in A Good Woman. Joseph Fiennes was replaced by Stephen Campbell-Moore as Lord Darlington. Possible Autumn 2004 release date.

Tom Wilkinson has joined Helen Hunt and Scarlett Johansson in the indie feature "A Good Woman" for helmer Michael Barker. Production begins next month in Italy.

Helen Hunt is to star in A Good Woman, playing a seductress who steals the
husband of a younger woman played by Scarlett Johansson (Ghost World). The
film, to be directed by Michael Barker (Best Laid Plans), will shoot in
Sorrento, Italy, in October. Scripted by Howard Himelstein, the story is
inspired by the Oscar Wilde play Lady Windermere's Fan.

Friday 16th May 2003: A Good Woman Update:
Kim Basinger has landed a starring role in A Good Woman, a film based on
Oscar Wilde's celebrated play Lady Windermere's Fan. Director Mike Barker is
to start shooting the scandalous drama in August with a cast including
Joseph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Wilkinson. Basinger will star in
the film, which is set in 1930s New York and the French Riviera, although
the producers are weighing up whether to shoot on the French or Italian
Riviera. The central character is an audacious woman “of a certain age” who
becomes embroiled in a family scandal, leaves her problems and unpaid bills
in New York and sets sail for the French Riviera.
