A Goonies sequel finally looks to be on its way. Director Richard Donner, who helmed the 1985 original, and Steven Spielberg, who executive produced it and co-wrote the script with director Chris Columbus, have purchased a sequel script and are pushing to get it made. "We're trying desperately," Donner said. "We're just trying to get Warner Bros., who owns it, to say yes." The sequel would reunite the original cast, which included Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, with a new bunch of suburban kids, Donner added.

Friday 26th September 2003 The Goonies 2 Update:
Moviehole has been digging around on the rumours for The Goonies 2 "Rumour has it that Richard Donner is finally getting going on “The Goonies” sequel, with scouting reportedly taking place in the Oregon State Park, Astoria, the same place where the first film was filmed.
We checked in with a representative of the park to see if he’s heard or better still seen anything. "I've heard that they're probably going to shoot - and probably in Astoria once again. Nothing about a state park location", he says. For a better confirmation we turned to actor Corey Feldman, who is believed to be starring in the flick when [if it ever] gets going. "I just got off the phone with Mr. Donner and I can tell you that the source of your information is incorrect. Although they are working on a script idea for the movie that is as far as it has gone at this point." So I guess that means we’ve a story but still no go on the sequel. "

Monday 1st September 2003: The Goonies 2 Update:
Goonies 2 could still see light of day according to director Richard Donner.
“Steven (Spielberg) and I want to make it,” he said in a recent interview.
“We are in the process of trying to find the proper writers. I’ve talked to
a lot of guys, a lot of writers, guys and girls, and so far nobody’s really
hit it. I may have come upon two writers now that are really very right for
it.” And the characters? “Kids grown up and new goonies and their lives will
cross.”
Thursday 17th July 2003: TheGoonies 2 Update:
Just received the following info on The Goonies 2 "We have been contacted by someone who worked on the original Goonies movie, who told us that Warner Brothers is about the Goonies sequel. The problem is they are pushing for a brand new cast, so we have created an official petition to bring the original cast back for the Goonies 2. If you wouldn't mind linking to the website to help that would be great. We have six days left!!! Please link to: www.thegoonies.org" Thanks to Ron!
 Monday 17th March 2003: Goonies 2 Update:
Sean Astin has been talking about reprising his role in Goonies 2 "Just give me a call and tell me where to show up. I'm confident enough of who I am and the seriousness and purpose of my work in other areas to go back and do that.
What is life if you can't have a sense of fun and humor?" Joe Pantoliano has also been talking about the possibility of Goonies 2 "They are real, I talked to Donner [Richard] about it and I talked to Spielberg [Steven] about it, unsolicited Steven mentioned it and then I called Dick and he said Nah theyre working on the script, were working on the script. Am I going to be in it? I dont know but I didnt get killed off in it. [Laughs] And thats another reason why I did Daredevil is that I didnt get killed off in it. Think about all thegreat stories that Ive been on that they keep bumping me off from. " Thanks to SuzyQ!
 Wednesday 5th March 2003: Goonies 2 Update:
Just received the following update on Goonies 2 "Corey Feldman was on E!'s "Star Boards" recently (within the past couple days or so). This is what he said when asked about a Goonies 2:"Here's the deal: We've talked about it. We've had discussions about it so many times through the years. One time, Richard Donner called and said, "We're going back to work." With such a diverse group of talented people, you want to make sure [everyone can come back together]. You don't want to make a crap sequel, or you'd rather not do it all." Thanks to SuzyQ!
 Wednesday 26th February 2003: Goonies 2 Update:
Just received the following that debunks the rumours surrounding Goonies 2 "I have watched and followed every scrap of news about the Goonies sequel
since rumours surfaced over 2 years ago. Unfortunatley most of the recent
news is a year old and the latest on the film is it is stuck in "development hell" as reported by Corey Feldman recently. The interview with Spielberg at a film school in Calafornia is over a year and a half old and has been repeated again recently. Most recently Sean "Mikey" Astin told a reporter that he had an idea planned out in his head and that he would love to direct the film should the current script (in development hell) gets turned down by Spielberg. In all honesty sadly it's unlikely the film will get made soon Spielberg's next film is Indiana Jones 4 and unless the film starts pre-production soon word is it won't get made. " Thanks to Darren!
 Monday 24th February 2003: Goonies 2 Update:
Sean Astin has been talking about the possibility of a Goonies sequel wit word that Steven Speilberg approached him about it last year with word that a new script had been written, but that director Richard Donner was no longer interested in helming.
 Friday 21st February 2003: Goonies 2 Update:
Have received an email with some information on Goonies 2 " It's unclear whether Donner will return to the director's chair. He says his Goonies days might be over. He was a bit more forthcoming with possible story details. He says, "Mikey and the gang are back, but there is a new group of kids on the adventure." One might presume that the new group of kids are the sons and daughters of the original gang. The gang there got word that the film will be an "ancient indian adventure in the Rocky Moutains." They hear that potential shooting locations are already being scouted in Oregon, Utah, and Colorado. " Thanks to Suzy Q!
 Tuesday 4th February 2003: Goonies 2 Update:

I post this page as news reaches us that Steven Spielberg confirmed that it will be made in the very near future. A report appeared on Aint It Cool this morning, "Someone asked about a sequel, and he did in fact CONFIRM that a sequel was in pre-pre production... meaning that it is in development with Spielberg involved (executive producing again) and ALL cast members returning. The story would have their children dabbling in adventures ALONG with their parents. He didn't elaborate too much on the story... just confirming that the sequel was in the works and WOULD BE MADE".
It's though that most of the original cast would return for the sequel as well as plenty of newcomers. Watch this space.
