Wednesday 24th September 2003: Gothika Update:
Warner Brothers has moved the supernatural thrilller Gothika U.S release date from October 24th to November 21st, 2003. Speculation is that WB does not want to go head to head with New Line Cinema's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in its sophomore frame. Gothika's has Halle Berry's prescence, but The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is generating some serious buzz, especially on the Internet. The film opens in the U.S. on October 17th, 2003 and stars Andrew Bryniarski in the role of Leatherface.

Thursday 28th August 2003: Gothika Update:
Gothika director Mathieu Kassovitz has been talking about the new
supernatural thriller, which stars Halle Berry as a criminal psychologist
who awakes as an inmate in her own institution with no memory of a murder
she's apparently committed. "She brought her personality, first of all,"
Kassovitz said in a recent interview. "Everthing is about her. It's all on
her character. It's a psychological thriller mixed with a ghost story. So
it's all about her. And scary movies are scary only if the main character is
scared and if you can relate to this character. So she brought her own
humanity and a lot of professionalism and a lot of energy for everybody in
the crew, for me and for the other actors and all the crew members. We got a
lot from her."

Friday 16th May 2003: Gothika Update:
She might well have kicked ass in two X-Men films, not to mention looking
more than useful as Jinx in Die Another Day, but Halle Berry is not
invincible. Shes only gone and broken her right arm while filming a scene
for supernatural thriller Gothika. Apparently she was filming "one of the
more physically demanding scenes" when she was hurt, revealed Joe Everett, a
spokesman for the Warner Bros. production. The actress broke her ulna, a
long bone in the forearm, and was treated at a Montreal hospital before
being released. The movie was in its fifth week of a nine-week shoot and it
is unclear when she might return to the set. Gothika is set for release in
the USA in October. Its not the first time Berry has done herself a
mischief on set. She suffered an eye injury while shooting an action
sequence in Spain for her aforementioned James Bond debut.

Just received info that the asylum we mentioned that was getting used for filming of Gothika isn't strictly true "I live in Michigan and the only connection I know of to the asylum you have linked to is that the Gothika
people bought some photos from a photographers book to
use to decorate Halle Berry's office in the movie. Here is the link.

Wednesday 9th April 2003: Gothika Update:
Halle Berry has been talking about her role in forthcoming thriller Gothika.
"It's a cross between The Ring and The Sixth Sense, a ghost story that's
also a psychological thriller," she said. Berry plays a psychiatrist who
wakes up in her workplacea mental hospital for female murderersto be told
by doctor Robert Downey Jr that she has murdered her husband. Is she in fact
a psychiatrist? Or a murderous mental patient suffering from delusions?

what she did. That's why I love it! It's creepy! Creepy!" The film is due
out in the U.S. in October.

Just received an email asking me if I could confirm that Robert Downey Jr. had been cast in Gothika. I hadn't heard that rumour so I quizzed further and it turns out that a staff member at a talent agency had read a report that Downey Jr. had been offered that part of Pete. Certainly sounds interesting, can anyone confirm or deny this rumour?

Gothika has been written by Sebastian Gutierrez and will tell the tale of a Psychiatrist (to be played by Berry) who wakes up as a patient in the asylum where she works and finds she has been charged with murder. Penelope Cruz has signed up to star as Chloe who will be a deranged yet charismatic patient. No director has been signed up yet which when the movie is due to start filming in March must be a concern for the producers.
