Emma Thompson has been talking to Empire (www.empireonline.co.uk)
about how she has portrayed Professor Trelawney in Prisoner
of Azkaban "I decided that, since she was someone who saw
into the future, she had to be someone who couldn't see anything
at all in the present. Like where she was going, her clothing,
anything," said Thompson. "I decided to dress her
slightly differently, and had wonderful co-operation from my
director and designer and everything."

Update:
Alfonso Cuaron has revealed that the running length of the movie
will probably be under 2 1/2 hours in length. "I'm sure
that somebody is going to miss something very specific that
was ingrained in his or her mind when they read the book. But
I think fans are going to love the movie." If he has it
looks like they have had the courage to jettison a lot of the
flotsam of the book, that while admittedly is great in the book
and adds to the flavour, that isn't really that essential to
the story. Could this be the first great Harry Potter movie,
that instead of simply transporting the book to the screen actually
tried to make it it's own thing?

John Williams has revealed when he will start working on the score for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban "The principal photography is ending about now," he said "I'll record the music in March, so that leaves about two-and-one-half months to write almost a two-hour score. It's colossally tight. And after mid-March, there's another month or six week for mixing and dubbing. So I would say for a picture like that -- fairly long, with special effects -- we're talking about four or five months."

Thewlis plays Professor Lupin, a teacher who turns into a werewolf, in the Prisoner of Azkaban. He told today's Sun: "The directors thought it might be too scary - but kept it." Apparently Thewlis's make-up is remarkable and he also goes into what the Sun describes as "weird spasms".

Thursday 4th September 2003: Harry Potter Update:
UK tabloid The Sun has unveiled a double helping of Harry Potter news. First
off, it claims to have discovered the titles for books six and seven, and
subsequently movies six and seven. Word is that the final two novels could
well be called Harry Potter And The Mudblood Revolt and Harry Potter And The
Quest Of The Centaur. Meanwhile, graffiti yobs have trashed the Hogwarts
Express steam train used in the Harry Potter films. The louts struck at
night after breaking into the depot where the train is kept in Scarborough,
North Yorks. The yobs caused thousands of pounds of damage by spraying a
silver and green design, resembling futuristic homes, along two 64ft
carriages. To read the full story click here.

Monday 28th July 2003: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Update:
Alfonso Cuaron, director of the latest movie in the Harry Potter series,
says the film's villain, the evil wizard Voldemort, reminds him of a
combination of President George W. Bush and Saddam Hussein. "They both have
selfish interests and are very much in love with power,” he said in a recent
interview. “Also, a disregard for the environment. A love for manipulating
people. I read books four and five, and Fudge (the slippery Minister of
Magic) is similar to Tony Blair. He's the ultimate politician. He's in
denial about many things. And everything is for the sake of his own persona,
his own power. The way the Iraq thing was handled was not unlike the way
Fudge handled affairs in book four." To prepare for the older, bolder Harry
Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, star Daniel Radcliffe has been listening
to the Sex Pistols, a group which broke up 11 years before he was born.
Meanwhile, Emma Watson, who plays Hermione, says the fourth film is the
puberty movie in the Potter franchise, the one in which "all those lovely,
lovely hormones start coming out."

Wednesday 9th July 2003: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Update:
Dame Maggie Smith has been talking about her role in The Prisoner of
Azkaban and it doesn't sound too taxking "I look on the part as a sort of
pension. In the one we're filming now (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban) I'm not very involved. I'm always telling the children to go back
to their dormitories. I trail around after Dumbledore and then tell them,
'Go back to your rooms immediately.' It's not a taxing role to learn, I
have to say."
Wednesday 4th June 2003: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Update:
Warner Bros. have scotched reports of delays to the filming of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. They have said they are on schedule and that the bad weather has not impeded them. Yes there's been rain but this is Scotland, surely they would have expected that and planned for it!

John Williams has been signed up to write the score for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban it has been revealed.
Tuesday 3rd June 2003: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Update:
CBBC have weighed in with a report on the status of the Harry Potter filming up in Glencoe "It's looking likely the next Harry Potter flicks won't be filmed in the Scottish Highlands because of the weather and midges. The rain's been so bad, shooting of the Prisoner of Azkaban in Glencoe is at least two weeks behind schedule, says the Express newspaper. And as well as the rain, the cast and crew have been scratching themselves silly because of the infamous midges. The mini-flies are well-known in Scotland and not even the most powerful spell seems to be able to stop the swarms which really bite. Three weeks of heavy rain has made the ground of the set, built on a mountainside, so slippery it's dangerous to use parts of it. Dan, Rupert, Emma and Hagrid were to be taken up there by a special mountain car, but it's too wet even for that. The newspaper says the film makers have had to take apart a huge part of the set - Hogwarts Bridge - and rebuild it in an indoor studio back in England. The bridge cost a lot of money to build in the first place. The annoying thing is, while the mountainside set - which includes Hagrid's hut - was being built the weather was perfect! "

Monday 19th May 2003: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Update:
Chris Rankin who plays Percy Weasly has revealed a lot of juicy info on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban's new direction under Alfonso Cuaron"Were taking a new slant with a new director it will be a very visually different film. There's new costume designs, all sorts of stuff has changed. His style is completely different to Chris Columbus, hes going for a real dramatic, tension building to a climax kind of film which I think is going to be perfect for Potter three...In the second one it was as if the group of children whod been to see the first one were now a year older and could take a bit more, but in this film theyll seem as if theyre four years older".
Monday 19th May 2003: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Update:
Filming late last week and at the weekend in Glenoce had to be abandoned due to the inclement weather. The production moved to Fort William to film indoor scenes.
Monday 19th May 2003: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Update:
It has been revealed that former England rugby star Martin Bayfield has been signed up to play the double of Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid in the movie. One of the main reasons is that due to the heat that the Hagrid costume generates Coltrane can only endure it for a few minutes at a time, whereas Bayfield being extremely fit can contend with fifteen minutes.
Monday 12th May 2003: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Update:
Filming on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will be starting VERY
soon at Glencoe and it looks to have stirred up quite a bit of interest. It
is thought that 1000 sightseers may try and grab a glimpse of filming on
the movie. The production has hired extra security to try and keep control
of the set, one of the scenes being filmed will be on the shore of Loch
Eilt which will make it even harder to keep control of. The tourist
offices locally have been inundated with people looking for directions to
the filming and also the local hotels have been contacting the production
looking to take coach trips to visit the set! The production has spent
about £1million on sets that will include Hagrid's Hut, parts of Hogwarts
and the Sundial Garden. The makers have realised that due to the nature of
where they will be filming that they will not be able to completely control
the set 'We would all be very happy if nobody came and we were able to make
the film and go quietly. But we have to be realistic about it ... It's
going to be a learning curve for all of us.'
Monday 27th April 2003: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Update:
Security has had to be beefed up in Glencoe on the set of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with word that souvenir hunters have been swiping polystrene rocks and pumpkins.

Comic Dawn French has landed a role in the third Harry Potter movie, just a
few weeks after her TV spoof of the films for charity Comic Relief. French
will play the Fat Lady in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. For
those unfamiliar with the story, the Fat Lady is a talking painting.
Christopher Columbus, director of the first two Harry Potter movies and
co-producer of the third, confirmed: "Yes, Dawn French is playing the Fat
Lady. I think she's incredibly funny and her Harry Potter spoof for Comic
Relief was pretty amazing."
