Be prepared for a very numb bum
when you go see Harry Potter and the Goblet
of Fire at the cinema next months, as it's coming
in at 156 minutes. Ok, 14 minutes, yes 14 minutes
of that is the credits, but it's still the longest
Harry Potter yet. Oh, and stay after the titles
as well, there's the usual twist/caveat at the
end of them.

Producer David Heyman has revealed that, at last, they
have dropped some of the plot threads from a Harry Potter
book for the movie. And thankfully it's the S.P.E.W. nonsense
that gets Hermione all a plaver. This is what he said
in an interview "Anything that doesn't really relate
to Harry and Harry's journey is less relevant. That's
not to say that there're not minor detours. Inevitably
there are. But there are certain things that we don't
spend as much time with as they do in the book, just by
the very nature of the material. It's Hermione's issue.
Not to say Hermione's [not important]. Hermione's a vitally
important character. But you have to make some choices."

Miranda Richardson is to star as Rita Skeeter, a reporter for
the Daily Prophet, in the next Harry Potter film for Warner
Bros. In the fourth novel, Harry wants to get away from the
pernicious Dursleys and go to the International Quidditch Cup
with Hermione, Ron, and the Weasleys. He wants to dream about
Cho Chang, his crush (and maybe do more than dream). He wants
to find out about the mysterious event that's supposed to take
place at Hogwarts this year, an event involving two other rival
schools of magic, and a competition that hasn't happened for
a hundred years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old
wizard. Unfortunately for Harry Potter, he's not normal, even
by wizarding standards. And in his case, different can be deadly.

Friday
30th January 2004: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Update:
Great scoop from Empire Online (http://www.empireonline.co.uk)
today as they interviewed Mike Newell in connection with Harry
Potter and he won't be making it into two movies as was widely
thought "As far as I'm concerned it's absolutely possible
to do it in one. I think it would be slightly embarrassing to
do it in two. It's a classic paranoid thriller in a way. I've
spent Christmas watching things like The Parallax View and The
Insider and Three Days of the Condor. What you have is a story
at the beginning of which the powers of evil have a plan, which
is absolutely not revealed to your hero. The kid just wonders
into another year at school, then this huge notion of the competition
surprises him. But there is, of course, a malign intelligence
which is manipulating things. And so he gets more and more suspicious
until there is a shoot-out between him and the bad guy. That's
a really good, strong thriller shape."
Friday
30th January 2004: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Update:
Two big bits of casting news on the fourth Harry Potter movie
with the news that the producers are seeking a real life Bulgarian
to play Victor Krum. They are holding a casting call in Sofia,
Bulgaria this week to find an ideal candidate. They are not
going to such lengths to cast Cho Chang however as they are
holding an audition on the 7th February at Pineapple Studios
between 10am and 3pm. It goes without saying that they are looking
for a girl who has oriental appearance and about 16 years old.
Tuesday
20th January 2004: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Update:
Director Mike Newell has revealed that the budget for Goblet
of Fire will be an incredible $170 million! "I think of
myself as being really lucky. I'm going to make the most expensive
film there has ever been. These things are not like ordinary
films they are world events. I have millions of 10-year-olds
who must not be disappointed. Making Harry Potter is like being
President of Brazil. It is a colossal undertaking. I've been
in Paris, looking for giant women and French schoolgirls,' he
says. Now how does one explain that to the expenses dept?"
Wednesday
7th January 2004: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Update:
Strong rumours are flying that Rowan Atkinson has signed on
for an as yet unspecified role in Harry Potter and the Goblet
of Fire. Now I'm sure there are fans out there who will be able
to work this out simply by the new characters that are added
to the book, anyone want to take a guess? Some sources are saying
it's he who must be named, but other sources are rubbishing
this, me I'm sitting on the fence.
Monday 8th December
2003: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Update:
Director Mike Newell has revealed in an interview he will do
his best to pick up the series where Alfonso Cuarón left
off. Production of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will
begin in late April or early May, with Daniel Radcliffe (Harry),
Rupert Grint (Ron) and Emma Watson (Hermione) reprising their
roles. They'll even be the right age for their characters this
time!
Tuesday

role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire are Lori Lee (Neighbours),

Monday
11th August 2003: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire Update:
It has been confirmed, Mike Newell will direct Harry Potter
and the Goblet
of Fire. Filming will start in April 2004. Producer David Heyman
had this
to say "When Alfonso made the decision to focus on completing
'Harry
Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,' we were faced with the
daunting task
of finding a director to handle the complex challenges of 'Harry
Potter and
the Goblet of Fire' and to follow in the footsteps of Chris
Columbus and
Alfonso Cuaron. Mike's rich and diverse body of work show him
to be the
perfect choice. He has worked with children, made us laugh,
and had us
sitting on the edge of our seats. He is great with actors and
imbues all
his characters, all his films, with great humanity. I'm thrilled."
Mike Newell then said "I'm very excited about directing
'Harry Potter and
the Goblet of Fire. As audiences have become more familiar with
both the
books and the movies, there has been an increasing challenge
to continue to
develop each of these characters and to make their world real
on the
screen. It is a pleasure to follow directors Chris Columbus
and Alfonso
Cuaron, who have done so much to establish the tradition of
Harry Potter on
film, and to work with David Heyman and Steve Kloves, whose
love and
respect for this material have been central to the success of
this enormous
undertaking."
Tuesday
5th August 2003: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Update:
Alfonso Cuaron, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner
of Azkaban, has
been explaining why he won’t be helming the fourth film
in the franchise
(Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). "It was always only
Harry Potter and
the Prisoner of Azkaban for me,” he said recently. “I
never thought
[seriously] about continuing.” Cuaron was approached about
returning for the
fourth movie, but preparing “Goblet” while finishing
“Azkaban” seemed too
daunting. "Frankly, I'm extremely lazy,” he joked.
Mike Newell is currently
in talks to take over directing duties for Harry Potter IV.

Word reaches us that Director Mike Newell has revealed that
he wishes to

or even

on him to
direct the project.
Tuesday
8th July 2003: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Update:
Looks like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be heading
back to
Glencoe for filming with the news that Warner Bros. have applied
to keep
parts of the set in Glencoe intact until 30th June 2005. Execs
visited the
area last month and are looking to retain the access steps they
built into
the gully and also the road they built in.
Tuesday
17th June 2003: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire Update:
Daniel Radcliffe's Mum has shot down the rumours yesterday that
he wasn't
returning for Goblet of Fire " "It is all rubbish.
Daniel will be in the
fourth film, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. There is not
a grain of
truth in reports that his schoolwork has been suffering. He
has had the
best results ever. His schoolwork has never been better - he
is a very
hardworking young man."

Monday 16th June 2003: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Update:
Rumours are circulating, and I do stress it sounds like
a rumour at this stage that Daniel Radcliffe is looking to make
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban his final Harry Potter
movie and he will return to finish his school studies. Reports
have Warners already gently looking abround for a replacement
with casting sessions thought to have taken place already.

Tuesday 13th May 2003: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Update:
Ok, everybody may be talking at the moment about the
filming of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, well it
appears that Warner Brothers are looking a bit further ahead
to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. As readers of the book
know Voldemort does not come back to life until this book, and
until then he is nothing more than a ghost. Well Warner Brothers
have obvioulsy been thinking about this and realised it might
be about time to get an actor signed up to the role. And can
you guess who that name is that they are in talks with to play,
probably the most crucial role in the movie after Harry Potter
himself, is going to be? None other than Rowan Atkinson.
I know
a lot of people might be calling this idle speculation, but
our informant is VERY close to the production. I personally
think it's an inspired casting, if they can get him to sign
on. Many of us will still remember him as Blackadder and that
character's delicious nastiness. I feel it would not be much
of a leap for him to play Voldemort. Yes he has played nothing
but silly roles for years, but this part could be something
for him to really get his teeth into.
In other
casting news our tipster reveals that discussions are taking
place to sign up Richard (One Foot in the Grave) Wilson as Frank
Bryce, and for those who haven't read the books, Bryce is the
old gardener that Voldemort kills at the start of the book.

Wednesday 9th April 2003: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Update:
The
fourth Harry Potter book could be made into two films, its producer
revealed at the launch of the latest Potter DVD on Tuesday.
David Heyman said pre-production on The Goblet Of Fire was proving
so lengthy it might be too much for a single movie. "We
started work on the script last Monday, he said. We're
going to shoot it as one and see how it ends up. If it's too
long then we'll make it into two."
Thursday
7th November 2002: Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire:
Cinescape spoke with Chris Columbus about the possibility of
him returning to direct the fourth film in the series. There
are a lot of things that would have to fall into place. I'd
love to work with these kids again, but I don't know if they'll
come back for the fourth because they might want to go off and
lead their own lives. Coming back to do the fourth would be
an interesting prospect in terms of reinventing it all. As I've
said a bunch of times, 'You don't want to put nipples on the
Batsuit.' You don't want to come in and suddenly turn it into
STARLIGHT EXPRESS. That's the danger. You want to continue to
work within the world, but do new and exciting things. I think
Alfonso [Cuaron] is a great [directorial] choice because he
will do something new with AZKABAN. It's not as much of a ride,
so it will be exciting in a different way".
