Our first review of Hart's War has come in coutesy of Gareth.

"The film is a hard one to get a grasp on, as it was a well-crafted film with some great cinema photography. The pacing of the film is slow as the film builds to its climax in an methodical manner that is plausible despite some Hollywood style trickery such as characters dragging events out in order for future events to happen even though their delays have no valid reasons and would not likely happen in reality. That being said, the film did entertain at times, but it left me with an empty feeling, as I did not gain hope, inspiration, or satisfaction from the characters and their stories, only acceptance of their fates much like the huddled masses imprisoned in the stalag". (Previous update) This is Gregory Hoblit's fourth directorial outing, the previous movies being Frequency, Fallen and Primal Fear. None of those movies have been particularly amazing, in fact I would describe them as so-so. I neither hated them or loved them which is not that much of an endorsement. Will Hart's War be any different, well the premise is a different kind of twist on a war movie in that its a trial with prisoners during world war II. But this might also be its downfall, it sounds like a pile of cliches and well worn themes thrown together. law student defending, prison camp, world war II, false charges, black defendant, racism. I'm sure I can think of more.

What it does have in its favour is one big name in the shape of Bruce Willis and one star that is very much in the rise Colin Farrell. Farrell is very much in demand after Tigerland and Phonebooth so Hart's War may rise above its jumble of cliches.

Quite a few people have been involved with the casting of this movie only to drop out. Tobey (Spiderman) Maguire and Edward (Fight Club) Norton both were thought to be starring but dropped out. Anthony Hopkins was also being mentioned in connection with this project. Norton was thought to be getting $8 million to play Hart, but the reasons for his dropping out of the project were NOT apparently over money. Money didn't seem to be a problem for Bruce Willis as he apparently got a cool $22.5 million to play the antagonistic role of Col. William Mcnamara.

One thing that is certain of is that Hart's War is fictitious and isn't based on any real life situations, the setting is at Stalag 13, trainspotters amongst you will know that is where Hogan's Heroes was set, Hart's war isn't a comedy though.

A review of the script can be found over at FilmForce

Hart's War was originally planned for release at the end of 2001 , but as you can see it has been moved back a couple of months to the Spring of next year.

Hart's War was shot in Prague during March to May of 2001.
