Peter and Bobby Farrelly are close to signing
a deal to rewrite and direct DreamWorks' "The
Heartbreak Kid." The romantic comedy is
a loosely inspired remake of the 1972 movie
written by Neil Simon and directed by Elaine
May. The story focuses on a man who hastily
weds a woman he thinks is perfect - until he
falls in love with another woman during their
honeymoon. Jason Bateman and Amy Poehler were
set to star, but the Farrellys will cast other
actors.

Jason Bateman ("Arrested Development") will star in "The Heartbreak Kid", the James Bobin-directed comedy that DreamWorks is putting into pre-production immediately. Amy Poehler ("Saturday Night Live ") is in talks to play the female lead. "The Heartbreak Kid" is loosely inspired by the 1972 Neil Simon-scripted comedy that was directed by Elaine May. Bateman will play the young man who falls head over heels in love and gets married impulsively, only to fall in love with another woman on the honeymoon. Scot Armstrong and Leslie Dixon wrote the script. It will be shot in México or the Caribbean.

James Bobin, director of Da Ali G Show, has replaced Barry Sonnenfeld
as the director of The Heartbreak Kid for DreamWorks when the
producers decided to make the film on a smaller budget. The
romantic comedy is a loosely inspired remake of the 1972 pic
written by Neil Simon and directed by Elaine May. The story
concerns a man who hastily weds a local girl whom he thinks
is perfect - until he falls in love with another girl during
the honeymoon. Scot Armstrong and Leslie Dixon have both worked
on the script.

Barry Sonnenfeld is to direct a remake of the 1972 film The
Heartbreak Kid for DreamWorks. Scot Armstrong and Leslie Dixon
have drafted the script which is about a man who hastily weds
a local girl whom he thinks is perfect - until he falls in love
with another girl during the honeymoon.
