Evan Rachel Wood and Ashlee Simpson are not involved
in the project. David Keith, Rita Wilson, and Oliver
James have been added to the cast.

of Heart of Summer.

16th January 2004: Heart of Summer Update:
Lots of casting news on Heart of Summer today with John
Corbett, Rebecca De Mornay, Lauren Mayhew, Jason Ritter
and Ashlee Simpson all signed up. Also thought to be
signing up is Rita Wilson who would play the mother
of Hilary Duff's character. Corbett will portray a music
teacher, with Ritter in the role of Duff's brother,
De Mornay as her aunt, Simpson as her best friend and
Mayhew as a fellow student.
Wednesday 3rd December 2003: Heart of Summer Update:
Hilary Duff will topline Heart of Summer, a coming-of-age project along the lines of Fame and Save the Last Dance. Sean McNamara will direct a script by Sam Schreiber, with filming expected to start next month in Los Angeles on January 19th. The story centres on a small-town singer left brokenhearted by the tragic death of her brother, who had secretly submitted her for a summer session at a prestigious performing arts academy in Los Angeles. The film will revolve around the female lead's efforts to confront her lack of formal classic training and deal with a romantic entanglement.

Hilary
Duff has been talking about her new project "It's
about a girl who lives in a small town and wants to
be a performer. It's actually kinda sad. Her and her
brother go to a concert and they're driving, they're
late trying to get home, and they have a head on crash
and the brother gets killed and then the family is having
a really hard time and stuff. Her kind of release is
she goes to a school in New York for performance and
she meets all these other kids that are kind of different
like her 'cos she's never really fitted in at school
'cos she always knows that she had other interests that
other kids don't have. She goes and has these really
cool performances at the school but she has to lie to
her dad and her mom lies to the dad too to let her go
'cos she knows it's the best thing for her".
