Just received the following Press Release on House of the Dead "
Artisan Entertainment and Boll KG announced North American theatrical distribution on two films, the completed HOUSE OF THE DEAD, based on the Sega videogame, screening in Cannes, and the about to begin ALONE IN THE DARK. ALONE IN THE DARK is based on the Infogrames videogame series. Infogrames just released the MATRIX game and is planning the new game ALONE IN THE DARK 5. Shooting will start in Vancouver in July on ALONE IN THE DARK with a budget of approx. 30 Mio. $.

The release of HOUSE OF THE DEAD will occur no later than October on over 1000 screens in North America. Zombie flick relects the current interest in the States and world in genre in pictures like Rob Zombie flick HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES and Danny Boyle 28 Days.

Deal was handled in Cannes by Boll KG´s Dr. Uwe Boll, Artisan´s Steve Rottenberg and consultant Barry Barnholtz. Dr. Uwe Boll is also both pictures’ director. Tuesday 8th October 2002: House Of The Dead Update:
Director Uwe Boll has bowed to fan pressure and will now make House Of The Dead the way they want it. He had this to say "I make my movie "House of the Dead" for the horror and video game fans around the world. In thousands of e-mails they showed me that they don't want Video Game Animation Scenes in the movie and so I changed now the movie! The fans can be happy now! In a DVD version maybe six months after the theatrical release I will show my Animation stuff additional"

Low budget Horror is this. Only big name is Jurgen Prochnow, whose star is definetely slipping. Dreamworks originally had the right to distribute this but passed. Still looking for a distributor. The budget was around the $12 million mark so read into that what you will. Hell even the filming was done quickly coming in at seven weeks when it was planned for ten!

Very much based on the game, but its a prequel and its thought we will get to see the human characters from the game at the end of the movie.
