I'm With Lucy kicked off in shooting in April 2001 in New York and Florida with a budget of around $15 million.

The film is based on a screenplay previousley known as I'm With Katie. I'm With Lucy is written by Eric Pomerance, who makes his debut. In the director's chair is Jon Sherman whose only other credit is the 1996 Dan Futterman comedy Breathing Room.
