Wednesday 3rd September 2003: Independence Day 2 Update:
A scooper at Dark Horizons scored the following " "I attended a screening
of Independence Day last night, and producer Dean Devlin spoke afterwards.
He said that they had written a script for ID4-2 and sent it to the studio,
and it received a lot of positive feedback. However, Devlin and Roland
Emmerich felt that it was good but not as good as ID4-1. So now, unless a
really good idea comes along, they have no plans for ID4-2. They also have
no plans for Stargate 2 & 3. Devlin didn't mind sharing the ideas for these
two sequels. In part 2, they were to show the connection between the
Egyptian pyramids and the Mayan pyramids. In Stargate 3, the plan was to
somehow connect every myth on Earth, from yeti to the Loch Ness monster. It
would have been interesting to see how these movies panned out, but
unfortunately we probably never will".

Will Smith has shot down talk of and Independence Day 2 "I think that will never happen. It's Hollywood so you never know, you can never say never, but I'm pretty sure that will never happen."

Just received the following update on Independence Day 2 " Producer Dean
Devlin and director Roland Emmerich didn't let comments by star Will Smith
that he wouldn't do a sequel to Independence day deter them. In fact,
Devlin announced this past week that he and his partner have finally
decided on a story line for Independence day While he did say that the
attacks of 9-11September were important in them finding a "new voice" for
the new movie, he didn't elaborate on the plot at all. With Smith balking,
there's still plenty of strong characters to bring back for the sequel
including Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum and Vivica A. Fox." Thanks to Xo!

Monday 5th May 2003: Independence Day 2 Update:
Sequel mania could soon be paying a visit to 90s blockbuster Independence
Day. Original screenwriter Dean Devlin said recently: “Roland (Emmerich) and
I are writing it, so hopefully it’ll come out good. If not, we’ll bury it."
Should the project go ahead, the plan is to use key members of the original
cast, such as Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman. "I think if we had
a good script, everyone would want to come back. If the script’s not good,
then they’ll probably tell us to go our own way."

Friday 2nd May 2003: Independence Day 2 Update:
Dean Devlin has revealed he is working on an Independence Day 2 script "Roland and I are writing it, so hopefully it'll come out good. If not, we'll bury it."

Monday 14th October 2002: Independence Day 2 Update:
Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum have both been approached to reprise their roles in ID4 2. This is what Goldblum had to say "I think it's definitely going to happen...I like what they [Roland Emmerich & Dean Devlin] are talking about. I enjoyed the first film, and I like the character", but will he return? "It depends...I'm meticulous".
