Meg Ryan has been talking about her raunchy sex scene in new movie In the Cut, which required her to strip off. The actress appears naked beside co-star Mark Ruffalo in the erotic thriller, in which she plays a spinsterish teacher who is attracted to a kinky detective hunting a serial killer in Manhattan. "They were not fun at all to shoot, though Mark and I did laugh a lot," she said of the love-making scenes. "But there are some things in the movie that were much more difficult than the sex scenes, like playing a character who doesn't talk much, which is something new for me." Added Jennifer Jason Leigh, who plays Ryan's sister in the film: "I think it was actually kind of easy for her. It just wasn't asked of her before."

During the TIFF press conference for Jane "The Piano" Campion's thriller "In The Cut", the director explained that this film is " ... a dark vehicle and it's a way of exploring sex ...". Campion also had a hand in co-writing the screenplay based on Susanna Moore's novel, whose title refers to many things, including a female's private parts.

Perky Meg Ryan, who in recent years has been sporting a new pug-nose (is that really the same needle-beaked gal from Oliver Stone's 1991 "The Doors" ?) says she is "not interested in breaking out of an image."

Premise of "In the Cut" swirls around mousy English teacher 'Frannie' who gets entangled (a la "Eyes of Laura Mars") with a homicidal crazy and alternately turned-on by a detective assigned to the case.

"Evocative and emotional" is how Jennifer Jason Leigh, who plays Frannie's sister 'Pauline', describes the film. Added producer Laurie Parker " ...its a noir film about feminine longing ..." Co-star Mark Ruffalo clarified with " ... "It's a balance between the
masculine and feminine ... a balance between the sheer, physical, brutal power of the police officer coupled with the feminine quality of poetry, language, love."

Meg Ryan performs some graphic nude sex scenes with Ruffalo, but both actors agreed that it was all "choreographed" and not exploitation. However, due to the rather explicit nature, the producers have agreed to a trimmed-down version for North America, and a steaming version for international release. Thanks to Michael Stevens.

Filming on the in development Meg Ryan movie In The Cut will be in Brooklyn at Prospect Park this week in a woody section.

In The Cut is the new movie from acclaimed The Piano director Jane Campion. Originally attahced to star was Nicole Kidman who had to bail out. Meg Ryan stepped into the role whcih should hopefully show a different side to her usual good girl act.

Made for a lot less than most movies are nowaday at only $12 million it was filmed in New York in the Tribeca and Financial Districts.
