Tuesday 20th May 2003: The Italian Job Update:
Mark Wahlberg has declared his upcoming movie The Italian Job as the best
film he's ever made. Wahlberg says the high-speed heist flick, which also
stars Charlize Theron and Edward Norton, far outstrips any of his other
films, including Planet of the Apes and Rock Star. He explains: "It just
works on every level. First of all, it's surrounded by the best young actors
in the business and they all brought their own personalities to the roles.
We made a character-driven piece with well-rounded characters. There's no
computer-generated effects in this movie. It's kind of back to the basics,
but it works as a whole. It has the best stunt sequences and action
sequences I've ever seen."

Wednesday 7th May 2003: The Italian Job Update:
Director F. Gary Gray has been receiving some verbals after filming of the
dramatic Minis getaway scene in the remake of The Italian Job tied up

movie. Hurry up and finish,'" explained the helmer.

Tuesday 29th April 2003: The Italian Job Update:
Charlize Theron has been talking about the remake of 1960s classic The
Italian Job. "What we're doing is keeping the Minis, the character names,
that whole aspect of having a fun ride is still completely in there,” she
says. “But the story and the motivation and why all of this is taking place
is for completely different reasons. When you're doing a remake, especially
something like this that is such a cult classic in Europe, it's nice to give
people the elements they loved in the original but then spice it up with
something that they don't expect."

Tuesday 18th March 2003: The Italian Job Update:
Director F. Gary Gray (very cool name) has been talking about The Italian Job "I feel just lucky tohave had such an amazing cast that any director could have. Mark Wahlberg, Ed Norton, Charlize Theron, Donald Sutherland, Seth Green, and Mos Def. You can't get a better cast. I probably won't see it again. So I am just basking in this experience. I was given a shot to shoot in Venice, Italy with a great boat chase. And that will never happen again because Venice will never let it happen again. We did not break anything but the size of the waves
we created in the Grand Canal was too much. The Alps were amazing. It was very cold, but it tested your manhood. This is really just an homage. The only similarities to the original is that we used Mini's ? the New Mini Coupe ? and it's a gold heist. That's it. It's a different story, a different plot. It was really important for us to leave the original alone. It's a classic, especially in the U.K. We really just made our movie. People who love the original will this like this one and those seeing it for the first time will love it, too. It's a very sexy movie. The core and the soul of the movie are in the characters. You don't see that often. So for me to have that kind of opportunity that has the thrills and appeal of a commercial film, if you will, but that is rooted in its characters, is very rare. I'm so happy and cannot wait for it to come out."

Thursday 30th January 2003: The Italian Job Update:
Dark Horizons scored a set report from The Italian Job today "One scene had multiple police cars chased after three mini coopers. One blue, one red and one yellow/beige color. Charlize Theron is driving the red car, while the Blue car is being driven by Mark Wahlberg. This film has numerous crashes, and will definently have more action then Swordfish. The Minis are driven on the sidewalk barely missing the Staples Center, and the people outside".

Thursday 9th January 2003: The Italian Job Update:
Jason Statham has been talking about the recently filmed The Italian Job "It's such an old classic, it would be silly to try to make a direct copy," he sagely told us. Acting alongside a cast that includes Ed Norton, Mark Whalberg, Charlize Theron and Seth Green, Statham told us, "There are a lot of new characters in it – the only characters that remain the same from the original are Charlie Croker which Mark Whalberg plays and Bridger played by Donald Sutherland. It's a big, big movie, very grand and very expensive, with some brilliant car chases. The way we steal the gold is ingenious!"

Saturday 2nd November 2002: The Italian Job Update:
Mark Wahlberg has revealed that he had to lose over three stone to get fit for filming on the remake of The Italian Job. He will play Charlie Croker in the remake nad he had this to say about it "Putting on the weight was fun for the first two weeks but then you have to wake up at two in the morning and eat two burgers and go back to bed.And at seven in the morning - eating a stack of pancakes. You still haven't even swallowed your last meal, and you're having to sit down for another one.So that wasn't fun, and then after finding out that it wasn't going to happen, it was a little upsetting." He had been putting on the weight for a film role that fell through.

Saturday 12th October 2002: The Italian Job Update:
Jason Statham has been talking about the differences between the original The Italian Job and its remake "It's from scratch. The main character that Michael Caine played is the character of John Bridger, they are still very much in there, but the rest is changed around...The Minicoopers are new ones, but I don't want to give too much away on what they're gonna do. We'll talk about that one at a later date. I've seen the original many times. I love that film. Michael Caine's a great actor. This is a lot, lot different. It's more of a homage than a direct remake. But a lot of the kids of today have never even seen the old original, so it'll be a brand new movie for them. There won't be any comparisons made, so yeah, it's a great story and I think it'll be a good movie"

Wednesday 2nd October 2002: The Italian Job Update:
Dark Horizons scored two excellent spy reports from the set of The Italian Job. The spies have revealed that in one scene a Hummer is flipped on top of a Porsche 911, other scenes have included forty cars with cars weaving in and out of them, police chase with three cars. Filming has also been at Hllywood Boulevard at Gruamans Chinese, El Capitan, and Orange Avenue.
Wednesday 2nd October 2002: Matrix Reloaded Update:
Total Film scored an interview with Neil and Adrian Rayment, who play the white virii in Matrix Reloaded. They are NOT known as the Virus Twins, simply Twin 1 and 2. They get full access within the Matrix to roam free as they were deleted programs who were given the choice of their role within the Matrix. They both fight Keanu Reeves in the movie, Neil fights Lawrence Fishburne and Adrian fights Carrie Ann Moss. They alos revealed they will be sword fighting with two swords that have rotating blades.

Monday 30th September 2002: The Italian Job Update:
News has been reaching us of filming on The Italian Job remake that will star Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron. The movie is currently filming in Los Angelese, and will move to Venice Italy. They have 31 Mini's on set, but only three will appear in the movie. The makers have kept the mini's and the character names but updated the story and the raison d'etre. Also signed up to star are Edward Norton, Donald Sutherland, Mos Def, Jason Statham and Seth Green.

14th June 2002: The Italian Job Update:
British actor Jason Statham (Snatch) has been signed up to star in F. Gary Gray's remake of The Italian Job. Statham will appear as Smiling Rob, part of Charlie Croker's (Mark Wahlberg) crew in the movie. This from Variety reveals a little more about the film.

"[the team] steal gold bullion by creating the largest traffic jam in L.A. history and making its getaway in Mini Cooper sports cars. The project is a remake of the 1969 film that starred Michael Caine".

11th June 2002: The Italian Job Update:
Casting is pushing forward on the upcoming Italian Job remake directed by F. Gary Gray. Edward Norton has now joined Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron in the film. Norton is said to play Charlie Crocker's (Wahlberg) double crossing associate.

11/4/02
If I was any young actor in Hollywood that had a choice in the roles I took, i'd steer well clear of this, but one of Hollywood's A-list has signed on to play the Michael Caine part, Charlie Croker in F. Gary Gray's Italian Job remake. And he is none other that Mark Wahlberg, star of last summer's average Planet Of The Apes remake.

Empire Online also providing more information on the film's plot by saying that 'The classic is being transformed from a light comedy into a “high-octane” heist movie with a much harder edge. Los Angeles will take over from Turin as the scene of the gold bullion robbery which will again use a massive traffic jam as the basis of the escape. The revamped Mini will also be making an appearance'. So where does Italy come in to all of this?
The Italian Job? The original was set in Turin......this will be set in LA. Well here's how they got 'round that one, the film will actually start in Italy, but the robbery will take place in Los Angeles.

And the new Mini, now owned by BMW, will feature in the film to tie in with its launch in the US.

20/3/2002
The Hollywood Reporter today announced that The Negotiator and Friday director F. Gary Gray will direct a remake of the classic 1960's British film The Italian Job. The original is still up there as one of my favourite films of all time along with those other Caine classics The Ipcress File and Get Carter, another great British film that Hollywood has remade and indeed 'balls-ed up'. Do I not like the idea of this either! The Italian Job is a classic! One that you must leave alone and respect its original genius. This time, the action will apparently switch to LA with a lot of the action still taking place in Italy (obviously).

The possibility of the announcement meaning anything to me would to see the film being produced in Britain with title, 'The Italian Job' - and 'A Guy Ritchie Film' above it. Then i'd be at least little excited.

But, alas, the screenplay has been written by Donna and Wayne Powers, who scripted the okay-ish Deep Blue Sea and Valentine. Gray, who helmed the 'average' The Negotiator and the even more 'average' Friday will kick things off in either July or August of this year will a summer 2003 release.

Nobody has been cast in the film as of yet but if you want to take a look at the original film, which is one of the great
cover
British comedy capers of the 1960's, and indeed the film that launched the Mini, click here to order the film on UK VHS or here for US VHS. You won't be dissapointed, trust me!
