It seems that Kevin Smith has run into some trouble with GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). GLAAD entertainment media director Scott Seomin told The Hollywood Reporter,

"GLAAD views this film as being dangerous to the homosexual community. Our concern is that this movie's target audience is young males, and it is so obviously homophobic."

Smith responded by telling Entertainment Weekly,

"Am I going to lead the unenlightened to the Promised Land, and have male [audience members] running around sucking d---? No. But [maybe] a few will walk around more comfortable... I can't be held responsible for how stupid some people are."

Smith agreed to meet Seomin to discuss the subject where Seomin suggested that Smith make a donation to The Matthew Shepard Foundation whose mission is to educate the public on the dangers of homophobia. Smith wrote a cheque on the spot for $10,000, but emphasized that the $10,000 was not to apologize for the film, but merely a donation to the foundation. Seomin also requested that Dimension, distributing Jay & SIlent Bob, make a donation, but they decined. A spokesman told The Hollywood Reporter,

"We have, for years, been huge supporters of GLAAD and continue to support them, but we don't feel like this movie is homophobic in any way, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but we stand behind this movie and are not going to apologize for it."

Just had a little information on Jay and Silent Bob's UK release date, over the 'J', "The IMDB UK release date listed for "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" is the appalling 21st December, a full 4 months after the US.
Not the best news I've ever heard". (Thanks to Jamie) Dark Horizons reports that the Australian release is set for November 29th.

More coverage from the San Diego Comic Con. Joblo has posted a giant section on the conference including a huge page dedicated to Jay & SIlent Bob Strike Back. He mentioned the films test screenings and to quote from Joblo, "things were going “great” and that they had received an 87% approval rate in their San Diego test run, which is “very, very cool”. He also said that another one in Arizona had gone really well (81%) and that most of the people there went in “blindly” (no prior knowledge of the film that they were about to see), so that was an even more positive result. He also said that the film was having great press screenings and that “so far, so good”. " Check out Joblo to read their full article.

The fifth movie in a series of New Jersey films from writer/ director Kevin Smith. An all star cast. Here we have half of the cast of American Pie, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia from Star Wars, Dawson from Dawson Creek, Matt and Ben reunited plus Smith favourites from all of his previous films, Chris Rock, Jason Mewes, Jason Lee, Joey Lauren Adams and Alanis Morrisette to name a few.

Here's what we know. As well as a fantasic cast line up, Bill Murray is said to make an appearence. Matt Damon will appear in the film possibly in the role of Will Hunting from Good Will Hunting, Ben Affleck and Jason Lee will star in multiple role, some from previous Smith movies and Silent Bob will speak in the film!

Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Ben Affleck, Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek, Jules Asner, Steve Kmetko and Matt Damon will play themselves in the movie also.

The film will also have a kicking soundtrack with songs from PJ Harvey, Bloodhound Gang, Morris Day, Marcy Playground, Stroke 9 and Afroman among others.

Test screenings have just taken place and things sound quite positive although some reports have suggested that the film is packed with too many cameos and almost enters into the realms of the Naked Gun franchise.
