Stax at Filmforce has been in touch with the following scoop on The Killer Inside "A scooper for Ain't It Cool News recently advised the site that Sean Penn was going to star in Muse Films' planned adaptation of the Jim Thompson classic The Killer Inside Me. AICN furtherreported that Val Kilmer had rewritten Andrew Dominik's screenplay and was poised to direct Penn inthe film. IGN FilmForce checked in with Muse Films, however, who clarified AICN's report. Our source confirmed that "Val Kilmer and Sean Penn have been attached to this film which Muse has the rights to; but this was many years ago when both were attached at the same time, with Sean to direct, and Val to be Lou Ford." Muse did acknowledge that Kilmer met with them a few months ago about directing the film but that "no deal was closed." We were also advised there are other "contenders" to direct Killer but we weren't told who they are. The company did reveal, however, that Penn is no longer "planning" on playing deranged protagonist Lou Ford. Andrew Dominik (Chopper) penned the screenplay with an eye towards directing it but dropped out after Tom Cruise passed on starring."
