Based On:
Premise/Synopsis: real-life story of CIA turncoat Aldrich Ames, who
provided U.S. secrets to the Soviet Union during the
height of the Cold War. Investigative reporter Peter
Mass wrote a book of the same name in 1995, which provided
a detailed account on the 1994 case that led to Ames'
sentence of life imprisonment. From 1983-1985, Ames
had been chief of counterintelligence for the CIA's
Soviet Bloc division. He began selling classified secrets
to the Soviets in order to please his demanding wife
who desired an aristocratic lifestyle. THe information
sent a dozen U.S. agents to their deaths. The Soviets
provided him with $2 million for going through with
the betrayal. Ames managed to avoid the CIA censors
and escape arrest for eight years.
