Thomas Janes (The Punisher) has joined Diane Lane and Mickey Rourke in John Madden's upcoming big-screen adaptation of Elmore Leonard's Killshot, says Production Weekly. In the thriller, a woman and her blue-collar husband become the targets of two killers after they stumble on an extortion plot hatched by the bad guys. Carmen (Lane) saw the scam and now she and Wayne (Jane), her ironworker husband, have to pay. Blackbird (Rourke) kills smart and deadly. Richie kills stupid and crazy. Both are out to erase any living evidence--and when these lethal partners take up the chase, a safe place from killing is awfully hard to find. Filming on the Weinstein Co. project will start on October 11th in Toronto.

What I know about this project. Last week, Aint
It Cool ran an article that stated that John Frankenheimer
is to helm the movie. Now Quentin Tarantino owns the rights
to the Elmore Leonard book, but a guy named Steve Barancik
has turned in a screenplay that Miramax love. So what is Tarantino's
involvement going to be. Well, i've heard that he will produce
the movie alongside Lawrence Bender with his company A Band
Apart, although I suspect he will end up with an executive
producer title.
Casting is still unknown and as stated above, both Robert
De Niro and Tarantino have been attached, but nothing confirmed.
Now, i've read Leonard's book and there are four main characters.
The first named Blackbird is an old Cherokee-Indian hitman
that I always envisioned somebody like Charles Bronson or
a bald Burt Reynolds to play. But i'd personally like to see
Harvey Keitel in the role. Then there's his young, hot-headed
partner, Richie Knix who I assume Tarantino would play, which,
could work. The other two roles are of a husband and wife,
which to be honest, there are a million different people that
could work in the roles, although the female needs to have
a slightly harder edge to her. Someone like Uma Thurman, Michelle
Rodriguez, Sharon Stone or even Cameron Diaz.
Still, it's a great book and it was one of the first Leonard
novels that I read. It's what got me into liking the author,
so grab a copy if you can.The film looks like it will go into
production soon.
