Premise/Synopsis: When a water main breaks, repair crews prematurely
unearth an elementary school's time capsule. When the
chairman of the town's historical society combs through
the youngsters' drawings and predictions about what
the future would look like, he discovers that one child
accurately predicted some of the greatest tragedies
in the past four decades. And there's one more horrifying
disaster the child foretold will come to pass. Can the
chairman stop it from happening?

Proyas (I, Robot) will direct the supernatural thriller
"Knowing." It is the story of a man who discovers
a 1950s time capsule with children's drawings predicting
the future. One set of drawings shows terrible events
that have come true already, but one of the events has
not happened, so the man attempts to stop it from occurring.
The project is in development at Sony-based producer
Escape Artists. Monday 3rd November 2003: Knowing Update: Richard
Kelly has been talking about the state of play on Knowing
"It’s been delayed four or five times due
to budget, distribution, foreign distribution issues,
casting issues. It’s seriously harder to get Knowingoff
the ground than it was to get Donnie Darko off the ground
(laughing). We’re definitely hoping to start shooting
the first quarter of 2004. There’s some legal
entanglements involving the ownership of the screenplay
and foreign distribution that have contributed significantly
to the delay. It’s frustrating and I wish I could
have already been in production by now, but I just want
to get it right. You don’t want to rush into a
situation where we can’t get enough money or we
can’t get the right cast. I’m just holding
out 'til we get it right."

Searchlight has picked up Knowing from Columbia Pictures.
The
supernatural thriller, which has just received the greenlight
will be
directed by Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko). It’s
the story of a man who
unearths a time capsule with children's drawings predicting
the future which
was buried in the 1950s. One child's drawings predicted
several horrible
events that have already come true. However, one of
those events has not yet
occurred, and the man sets out to prevent it from happening.
