Tuesday 3rd June 2003: Ladder 49 Update:
Just received an email advising that the Ladder 49 filming
will be continuing until July 3rd. The date of June 3rd was
for when Travolta was finishing HIS scenes. Also received
the following on Mayor Marton O' Malley's appearance "Mayor
Martin O'Malley says his role in a new John Travolta film,
"Ladder 49," wasn't much of a stretch - he played
the part of a mayor."I never came out of character,"
O'Malley said. His one day of work Thursday garnered him membership
in the Screen Actors Guild and a $650 paycheck. O'Malley said
he will donate the money to the Baltimore fire department's
foundation. In the scene, O'Malley's character bestows awards
on two firefighters - played by Joaquin Phoenix and Robert
Patrick - who rescued a child. Whether O'Malley makes it to
the big screen depends on editing. The film is scheduled to
wrap in Baltimore on July 3. "He
took direction very well," said director Jay Russell.
"He's very comfortable in front of the camera."
But Russell added: "He shouldn't give up his day job."
Thanks to Linda for the info!

2nd June 2003 2003: Ladder 49 Update:
Just received the following pics from Stacey who has been
following the Ladder 49 filming "They were on Gay street
yesturday . I have some photos for you. They were filming
at Curtis Bay on Friday. On Monday they will be filming on
Redwood Street. Filming went on on Friday until 3.30 Am when
we saw John Travolta leaving the filming and he stopped to
say goodnight. Made my day." Thanks to Stacey!
As an addendum to this report just received the following
updates to Thursdays filming "The shoot on Thursday went
pretty well. They shot inside the War Memorial in Balto, and
there were several real firefighters there with their families.
The scene was a medal ceremony in which Joaquin Phoenix and
Robert Patrick's characters received medals. Morris Chestnut
was walking around in makeup that made him look like he had
been injured in a fire, though he wasn't in the actual scene.
Real life Mayor of Balto Mayer O'Malley played himself in
the ceremony, handing out the awards." Thanks to L! And
just as I was wrapping up the report I have just received
an email advising that the filming on Ladder 49 is drawing
to a close "John will be at his last taping for Ladder
on Tuesday June 3." Thanks to D! Click

Thursday 22nd May 2003: Ladder 49 Update:
John
Travolta, who will star in next years Ladder 49, had

hundreds of admiring cheerleaders while shooting the film.
Apparently they
just happened to be in the same hotel where he was staying
with wife Kelly
Preston. You can read more in an interview he gave to Access
Hollywood by

Wednesday May 2003: Ladder 49 Update:

49 filming " I live 3 blocks from where they are filming
Ladder 49 in Curtis Bay. Today they were filming Joaquin and
Jacinda in an intimate scene on the front porch of a house.
Rumor has it that tonight they are "making" snow
for the entire street to film a few of the scene's then. I'll
be walking back up there tomorrow morning to see what else

Just received another update on Ladder 49 from regular
scooper Stacey "I spent all day on the scene today. I
got there about 11:30 in the morning and left at 10:00 at
night. John came to the church at about 12:00. he didnt
stay long I would say he left around 2:00 and they said he
was headed to his jet to go home for the weekend. I did find
out that tomorrow the will be shooting at Wutaw street. John
will not be there. not much really happened on the set today.
they filmed the rest of the wedding scene with Joaquin and
Jacinda. then in the afternoon they took a long time getting
the front of the church ready for the snowy look, they were
filming the midnight mass when I left. my feet were killing
I couldn't take no more and John wasnt there anyway.
Morris Chestnut did come out again and sign autographs. and
I also got a picture with Robert Patrick. Robert Patrick is
really nice. he sat there and talked to us and I had on a
shirt I made that said I love john and on the back it said
travolta #1. then robert asked if I was Johns #1 fan and told
me to tell john something when I see him." Thanks to
Stacey!

49 "They are filming on Lombard Street at St. Micheals
Church. they filmed 2 scenes today, in the morning they shot
a funeral scene and in the afternoon they shot a wedding scene.
Joaquin Phoenix was riding on the back of the firetruck in
the scene. I also got to meet Morris Chestnut on the scene
in the morning, me and my friend made signs 2 for John Travolta,
1 for Morris and 1 for Joaquin. well Morris spotted my sign
and said for me to come over so I got a picture of me and
him and an autograph. John then spotted us and pulled the
gmc he is driving in over and rolled down the window and said
"hello ladies" that made my day. " Thanks to
Stacey

Thursday 1st May 2003: Ladder 49 Update:
Just received the following update on the Ladder 49 filming
" Ladder 49 is currently shooting (this week and part
of next week) in Baltimore on the corner of Lombard and South
Wolfe Street. It's in front of a church, which makes me think
it's the funeral scene (the church was decked in black
draperies and floral arrangements). Also, I spied Michelle
Pfieffer eating a
sandwich on the steps of the church, decked out in her own
mourning attire." Thanks to Sam!

A cool report on Ladder 49 appeared online today Click
Here .Here's a snip of the report "The Commodore
Hall, which has stood since 1912 as a popular watering hole,
movie theater, banquet hall and political gathering spot,
will be featured in the Disney movie Ladder 49, which is being
filmed in the Baltimore area. The faded building in the 1900
block of Old Eastern Ave., with its wide gravel parking lot,
is an institution for generations of working-class customers
who favor the relaxed atmosphere. If you grew up on the county's
east side, it's likely you had a drink at the bar or attended
a wedding reception or social event in the Commodore's art
deco hall."

Monday 14th April 2003: Ladder 49 Update:

Monday 31st March 2003: Ladder 49 Update:
Just received the following update on Ladder 49 "Firefighters
around the world should feel very excited about Ladder 49.
I am a Lieutenant in the Baltimore City Fire Dept. and worked
as an extra this past week. They are using city firefighter
first before using others (that is for the firefighting scenes).
Without giving anything away, this movie is going to be awesome.
It will reflect what and how firefighters really do, unlike
that of Backdraft. The directors and writers all rode at my
firestation (E-8/T-10) before filming began to see what it
is we really do and to portray things as accurately as possible.
The effects are awesome as is the storyline. Be excited, this
movie is going to be a good one. Look at all of the ratings
on Jay Russell movies, they are all 5-star. This is a huge
budget movie with high caliber actors. " Thanks to Goldie!

Friday 14th March 2003: Ladder 49 Update:
An article on Ladder 49 has appeared online today at the
Baltimore Sun Click
Here This is what John Travolta had to say about the movie
"There will be plenty of fires in the city. In fact,
anyone who has a building they want to burn should let us
know."

Friday 14th March 2003: Ladder 49 Update:
Jim just sent us the following information on Ladder 49
"I live next to the house they are using in Curtis bay
and they have totally remodeled the house to look different.
The setting for the movie will be around Christmas time because
Jay Russell (director) ask me if he could put Christmas lights
and fake snow in my yard to have in the background for the
set. The house will be the setting for the main character
(Joaquin Phoenix) and he will travel from there to the Fire
station on north ave in downtown Baltimore. the ironic thing
is that there is a firehouse on the corner where the house
is but they are not using it for the movie. I don't know how
accurate one of the set crew members are but he told me that
neither Al Pacino or Michelle Pfeiffer are in this movie."
Thanks to Jim!

Thursday 13th March 2003: Ladder 49 Update:
Just had an email that advises us on the fire fighting
gear that the actors will be wearing in Ladder 49. It looks
like the actors have all beefed up for their roles, especially
John Travolta. The kit is identical to actual firefighters
gear and if required could be used in fighting real fires.
Thanks to Anon!

 Friday
21st February 2003: Ladder 49 Update:
Just received the following set report for Ladder 49 "Friday
was another long day. Not near as long as some, but long non
the less. Being on the set through the Fire Department has
given us a view of which none of us had on the set of The
Grass Harp. It is amazing watching them work, and trying to
figure out how all of this is coming together. Today, Friday
02/14/03, was very interesting. They filmed on the bridge
downtown Wetumpka all day. It was closed from around 8am until
4pm. The scene was a continuation of the Dodge charger leaving
town and heading for the river. I sure hope that the close
quarters at which these cars are passing each other on the
bridge are going to look as close in the final product. Have
found there is a lot of talking and planning to pull these
things off.Watch for the movie advertisement within the movie.
In the background shots downtown Wetumpka there is a movie
theater, the 'now showing' is a movie called "Identity".
After talking to Taylor Norton P.A., I found out it is a real
movie. Looked it up on Internet Movie Data Base. I think little
subtle things like that in a movie are real interesting. There
are more things in the back ground on this you should look
for. Wont spoil them all for you, you will just have to watch
and look for yourself. Little subtle things out of place.
"Thanks to SJP !
