Wednesday 5th February 2003: The Ladykillers Update:
Just received the following script review for the in development Joel and Ethan Coen movie The Ladykillers "The characters are a rather motley crew. They are real, as opposed to the almost cartoony extreme characters in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?". They're extremely diverse as well. There's the intelligent proffessor, the older disgruntled commercial director with irritable bowel syndrome, the young black mouthy troublemaker, the stupid blond kid, and the vietnamese general. They all are led by the mastermind proffessor, Dorr (Tom Hanks) who's set up camp in an old southern black lady's house, in an effort to tunnel through the ground to a river boat's casino vault. Not since "The Breakfast Club" have we seen such great characters. Oh yeah, everyone ends up dying...but I don't wanna ruin it. " Thanks to JT!
Monday 20th January 2003: The Ladykillers Update:
Word reaches us some of the colourful character names that the Coen brothers will be using in The Ladykillers: Clark Pancake, Lump Hudson, Gawain McSam, The General (middle age Vietnamese), amd Mrs Marva Munson the lady being killed in the title. The movie will start filming on June in L.A. and Missisipi.
Tuesday 10th December 2002: Ladykillers Update:
Joel and Ethan Coen have been given the green light by Touchstone to remake The Ladykillers. The movie was originally made in 1995 and the remake will star Tom Hanks. The script for the movie will follow an eccentric Southern professor (Hanks) who puts together a gang of double-crossing thieves to rob a riverboat casino. They rent a room in an old woman's house, but when she discovers the scheme, somebody has to kill her. The landlady proves tough to dispatch, however. Filming will start next summer with scenes along the Mississipi.
Monday 30th September 2002: The Ladykillers Update:
Tom Hanks will star in the next Joel and Ethan Cohen movie to be called The Ladykillers. Also signed up to star are George Clooney and Catherine Zeta Jones. Filming will more than likely be late next year. The Ladykillers is a dark tale of a gang of thieves who hole out in a an old lady's house while on the run from the cops. They try to kill the old lady but this is a Coen brothers movie and they fail spectacularly. Unsually for a Coen brothers movie it isn't based on an original screenplay, as it is a remake of the 1955 version.
