Friday 9th January 2004: The Last Horror Movie Update:
Julian Richards' The Last Horror Movie will be theatrically released in the US 'UNRATED' after the Motion Picture Association Of America refused to give it an 'R' certificate. 'They did offer an NC17' said Steven Mackler of US distributor Bedford Entertainment 'But we decided it would be better to open theatrically with the complete, uncut version.'
Bruce Fletcher of the San Francisco Independent Film Festival which will premiere the film this February has jumped to the films defence 'In my opinion, The Last Horror Movie is an outstanding, ground-breaking, exceptionally disturbing film which reaffirms my faith in the transgressive potential of the genre. It is extremely refreshing to see an intelligent, well-crafted and well-acted post-modern horror film'.
Also in support is Travis Crawford of the Philadelphia Film Festival, which will screen the film in April. 'The Last Horror Movie is a remarkably intense, yet also thoughtful, intelligent work and while it's an undeniably confrontational, visceral film, I never felt that the violence was treated purely for shock value, and I was consistently amazed at how complex themes of media violence and viewer culpability were treated with deft skill'.
