In Charles Randolphs original screenplay, David Gale
(Spacey) is a man who has tried hard to live by his principles
but in a bizarre twist of fate, this devoted father, popular
professor and respected death penalty opponent finds himself
on Death Row for the rape and murder of fellow activist Constance
Hallaway (Linney). With only three days before his scheduled
execution, Gale agrees to give Pulitzer-hungry reporter Bitsey
Bloom (Winslet) the exclusive interview shes been chasing.
But Bitsey soon realizes that this assignment is more than
she bargained for, and that a mans life is in her hands.
Putting her own safety in jeopardy, she frantically races
to piece together the shocking events surrounding Constances
death, before its too late.

Dark
Horizons have posted a script review of The Life Of David
Gale.
"The set-up is veeeeerrrrryyyy long and booooorrrrring.
I understand why it's this way but ...*yawn..if you get the
idea. I'm sure it will be another stellar performance by Spacey
and a nice departure for Winslet. No corsets needed here,
honey. There is a shadowy figure spotted early on that practically
screams "villain" and so I thought this to be a
basic formula death row pic. blah blah blah".

Horizons.

The Life Of David Gale was originally a vehicle for George
Clooney who was seto star in the title role of Gale. He then
passed and the role was going to be filled by Nicolas Cage,
who later passed also choosing to produce instead under his
company Saturn FIlms. Now, Kevin Spacey stars as the university
professor with Kate Winslet playing Bitsey Bloom, the reporter
who interviews him on death row. Laura Linney plays Constance
Harraway, the woman who is brutally murdered.
At the helm is British director Alan Parker (The Commitments,
Evita).
Filming began on The Life Of David Gale back in November 2001
at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas and the Sam Houstob
State University in Huntsville, Texas. The budget is set at
around $50 million.
The
