7th July 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Stuart
Townsend, who plays Dorian Gray in forthcoming flick The League of Extraordinary
Gentlemen, has been talking about the movie. "It's great, when you see
the league together, it is such a bunch of new and interesting characters
that you've never seen before, he said. Also, because they're literary
characters, they have such a rich tradition already. It would be nice if audiences
actually went out and started reading those books, younger audiences."
Townsend also admitted that he did his own research into his character. "I
was pretty familiar actually. I'd read the book. You know, Oscar Wilde is
Irish, but I went back and did my [research]. I got to read the book again,
went and saw the old movie. But this is a different film, so I have to be
true to what we're doing rather than trying to do a repeat of Dorian Gray.
It's the same character, but it's different. One
of Townsend's favorite parts of the character was his period suit. "I loved
it because Jacqueline West did the costumes and she's the most fantastic costume
designer. I think she really created iconic figures. When I got into my suit,
it wasn't how I imagined, which is always nice. And it always takes a bit
of adjustment. I would spent two hours just going through all the stuff, but
I trusted her and I loved the costume." Some
of the film's complicated photography required Townsend to shoot a scene backwards.
"It's a very quick clip where I steal Jekyll's vial. Basically, they
wanted to end the shot with the hand on the vial. And because they have to
be so specific, it's such a fast speed shot and it just stops exactly, I couldn't
do it normally. I had to walk into the room backwards and then go all the
way back and pick up the vial backwards so that the camera could actually
focus on that one. That was strange." Thursday
3rd July 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Sean Connery
has been opening the wounds again over his feud with Stephen Norrington. He was
asked where Norrington was at during at Press junket for the movie "Have
you checked the local asylum? Ask me about someone I like, will you? ... Everyone
else in the film was a pleasure to work with. Not him." Friday

Monday 2nd June 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: League
of Extraordinary Gentlemen producer Don Murphy has been talking about the rumours
concerning Sean Connery and how has apparently been editing the film. "Sean
has provided suggestions on the cut of the film, he revealed. Some
of these have proved helpful. He has taken control of nothing. Indeed, he has
only been in L.A. twice this year for normal ADR sessions.

Friday 29th May 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Looks
like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is having more problems with the news that
Sean Connery has been overseeing the editing of the movie. His spokesman said
"Sean often sits
in on the editing of his films. He's simply living up to his responsibilities."
Hmm, sounds more like he's trying to get the movie cut more the way he wants it
to be seen than what the director wants. I've said it before and I'll say it again,
could this be the Avengers all over again?

the name."

Tuesday 22nd April 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Sean
Connery has been talking about League of Extraordinary Gentlemen "My first
response to the script was that it was a bit far-out. But that never stopped me
before. It didn't stop me from doing Zardoz, I also got offered The Lord of the
Rings, and I turned it down because I didn't understand it. I was offered The
Matrix twice and I turned it down because I didn't understand it.
I don't understand this movie, but I'll be damned if I'm going to turn it down."
he also revealed that the entire cast have been signed for "at least one
potential sequel."

Tuesday 22nd April 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: It
now looks like LXG is still being titled League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but
is being marketed as The League. So in other words they don't have a clue, I still
say..... AVENGERS!

Thursday 17th April 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: The
rumours that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen had been retitled The League have
been quashed.

Monday 14th April 2003: The League Update: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
has now apparently been retitled The League. Sounds way too similar to The Avengers
if you ask me.

Wednesday 9th April 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Rumour
has it that the character of Campion Bond will not be appearing in the forthcoming
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Speculation has been rife recently
about who would be taking the role, with Jason Isaacs and Robbie Coltrane
having both been linked. But it now looks like the British intelligence agent
wont be appearing after all. He will, however, most likely appear in
any potential sequel. The production has been plagued by problems, from reported
on set wrangling to the catastrophic flooding in Prague last year which caused
serious delays.

Thursday 13th March 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: The
writer of the novelization of the film of the comic K.J Anderson has been talking
about the differences between them "The basic concept is the same, but the
overall threat, the Big Evil Plot, and the villain mastermind are all different.
Some characters have been added or deleted, some character traits have been changed
(unfortunately, in my opinion, because of political correctness)... but James
Robinson has come up with an excellent alternative story. ... The League itself,
of course, and the flavor of Victorian pulp sense-of-wonder [remain the same as
they were in the comics]"

4th February 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Shane West
has beenn revealing a ton of information about the upcoming League of Extraordinary
Gentlemen "There are two characters Stuart Townsend as Dorian Gray
and Tom Sawyer who aren't in the comic. And I've enjoyed playing off Mina
Harker, played by Peta Wilson. It's a relationship that's different from the comic
book, because my character isn't in it and Mina's not the leader of the group.Allan
Quatermain is. We Mina, Dorian Gray and I have this romantic triangle
going on. You don't know which guy is going to end up with her or if anyone's
going to in the end. Or even should. She's Steve Norrington's vampire, in that
there's a lot of special effects. I think [Norrington's] intending to do
which is very interesting an untraditional vampire. [Mina's disease] kind
of takes her over when she actually goes into the vampire [state]. It's furious.
Really animal. I mean, it's PG-13, but it's really furious. So Steve's doing many
different things to create that. There are all kinds of visual effects. I also
have this amazing costume, which has all these wires coming out of it, with these
long tendrils of black silk. When the Cirque du Soleil performer or I move in
it, there's this flurry effect. It looks like a bat.I think Mina's funny because
she's all business especially in the second and third comics, where she
has this whole thing with Jekyll and Hyde. 'Now, now, I'm not afraid. Put him
away. I don't want to see him now.' It's good. It should be called The League
of Ordinary Men With One Extraordinary Lady! Norrington's pretty brilliant.
He has a damn good version for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. His past
is in special effects, so he knows exactly what he wants to see and how he envisions
it. When we started off doing this big battle scene in Dorian Gray's library,
Steve did all the punches and kicks. If a light had to shake, he was right there
next to me shaking it. I think Alan Moore would actually like this film
at least visually if he got to see it.The script is really very different,
but it's great. The characters are the same, and the graphic novel gives you a
good point of reference.

3rd February 2003: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Shane West
has been talking about the upcoming League of Extraordinary Gentlemen "The
script is really very different, but it's great. The characters are the same,
and the graphic novel gives you a good point of reference. [Its] a shame we could
not shoot the film as written [in the comics]. But if we did, I don't think we
would make any money at all. But it would be a cool movie. Part of me would like
to see the comic book as a movie - a literal version of it. I'm sure many people
would, and yet in this climate and time, you have to find some middle ground.
Mina Harker (Peta Wilson), Dorian Gray (Stuart Townsend) and I have this romantic
triangle going on. You don't know which guy is going to end up with her or if

13th December 2002: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: There was
a rumour circulating that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was to be have it's
trailer released in front of Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers, but it now looks
like it will be delayed to an as yet unnanounced date. Tuesday
3rd December 2002: League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Word has
reached us that Campion Bond , a major character in the comic will only appear
in a cameo role at the end of the movie, but will feature prominently in the proposed
sequel, Robbie Coltrane has been mentioned in conjunction with the role. Saturday
16th November 2002: League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Looks like
there has been a lot of tension on the set of LXG with word that Sean Connery
and Stephen Norrington have been arguing a lot. Word is that Connery threatened
to fire Norrington from the movie. Connery had this to say "There have been
differences of opinion on everything" Saturday
2nd November 2002: League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update:
Further to reports that Jason Isaacs isn't starring as Campion Bond in League
Of Extraordinary Gentlemen it has been revealed that the part has been reduced
to little more than a cameo by an as yet unnamed actor. In the comic the League
is recruited by Campion Bond, instead they will be recruited by M who is being
played by Richard Roxburgh. Tuesday

25th October 2002: The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Jason
Issacs, rumoured to be playing Captain Bond in the LOEG movie has denied any involvement
whatsoever. He told Latino
Review "It's a very weird thing with Extraordinary Gentlemen actually,
and its all over the internet and it's all over the press that I'm playing this
part [Campion Bond] and I hope the checks arrive soon cause I NEVER read the script
and I've never been offered the part and I'm not doing it. Some Isaacs somewhere
is playing Campion Bond, it must be really pissing him off. Because everytime
he opens the newspaper it talks about how much fun I'm having on the set and how
I've been flooded off from PRAGUE. Very odd, I don't know where it started". Saturday

2002: League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: The logo for the upcoming
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen has been released. And I'll be brutel when I
say I think it's total crap. LXG? I thought the whole point of the title League
of Extraordinary Gentlemen was that it was long and victorian sounding. LXG sounds
like some crap sub Arnie title. Click Here

12th October 2002: League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Filming has
recommenced in Prague on League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Filming is thought
to have recently focussed on the capture of Mr Hyde. Thursday
29th August 2002 : League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: It was announced
today which FX companies have been signed up to provide the FX for this currently
shooting movie. Looks like they have split the work over several companies which
should speed things up. Tippett Studio will handle character animation shots in
a fight sequence between Dante Aligheri and Mr. Edward Hyde. Double Negative will
give life to Nemo's Nautilus and handle simulated water shots. Hunter/Gratzner
is said to be creating miniatures for a sequence that occurs in Venice, Italy.
Cinema Production Services Inc. is working on interior miniatures and indoor sets.
And this isn't all as Cinesite are in talks to handle another 400 shots! Thursday
29th August 2002 :
League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: More information on yesterday's
story about the arguments on set in the currently filming Sean Connery movie.
Producer Don Murphy has rubbished these claims and picked the rumour to bits as
the fight rumour indicated the fight took place in Prague during the floods, but
the production moved to Malta during the floods. Release date is set for League
Of Extraordinary Gentlemen of JUne 6th 2003. Wednesday
28th August 2002 : League
of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: More information today on the filming of
League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen in Malta. Filming was supposed to be in large
water tanks that were used in U-571 and also on other locations on the island.
They decided to go for a cliff top location instead which had 180 degree views
that would be ideal for the conning tower of the Nautilus. The conning tower was
built on the edge of the cliff so it looked as if the sub was out at sea. As mentioned
yesterday filming is back in Prague. Tuesday
27th August 2002 : League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Looks like
Sean Connery and Stephen Norrington haven't been getting on on set of League Of
Extraordinary Gentlemen with rumours that Stephen Norrington barked "I'm
sick of it. Come on, I want you to punch me in the face!". Connery kept his
cool and left the set until tempers cooled down. A source on set added "It's
been a tough shoot. One of the film's sets in Prague was ruined because of the
floods and Norrington was under pressure. It's not helped by the fact that he's
always shouting and screaming at people, and some of the cast and crew are sick
of it." Tuesday
27th August 2002 : League
Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: More word on the reasons on the move from
Prague to Malta and apparently it was planned all along. They had apparently always
planned three days of filming in Malta with filming already back in Prague and
on hold till the floods allow otherwise. And this could be some time as all the
sets are either damaged or covered in mud. Friday
23rd August 2002 : League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Producer
Don Murphy has been talking about the effects the floods in Prague have had on
the filming of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. "We
had to shut down shooting Tuesday at 10:45 Czech time. Sixty percent of the crew
were in the Hilton which was evacuated after the lobby became filled with a foot
of water. The Nautilus set, quite possibly the most beautiful set I have ever
laid eyes on, was very close to the river and we cannot get to it but is likely
to be waterlogged. Many
of the actors were in beautiful apartments by the river that had to be evacuated
on Monday. The remaining actors were in the Four Seasons which was evacuated late
Monday. The rains continue. The film is definitely not shooting until next week
at the earliest." Thursday
22nd August 2002 :The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: More news
today on the state of filming now that the project has had to move from Prague
due to the flooding. THey are now based in Malta. They are now filming on the
island of Gozo and mainly in it's Xlendi Bay. The scenes thought to be being filmed
in Malta incude a fight scene round a desert waterhole, the exteriors of the Fantom's
homebase, scenes on top of Captain Nemo's Nautilus. Not known yet if they will
go back to Prague once the flooding recedes. Tuesday
August 20th 2002: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: Word is
that after the vast amount of flooding in the Czech Republic that the shoot is
having to decamp to Malta to resume filming. Wednesday
14th August League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Update: The League Of
Extraordinary Gentlemen's Prague shoot has been halted to do this weeks floods
in the Czech capital. Two of the sets have been badly damaged and more that 70,000
people have been evacuated from the city including Sean Connery and other cast
members. 9th July 2002: The League Of Extraordinary
Gentlemen Update: The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
has kicked off filming in Prague. Now, it seems that the filmmakers will not shoot
at the Barrandov studios, home to films like Blade 2, xXx etc. Instead they've
chose to film in many of the cities empty warehouses. Meanwhile the role of Campion
Bond has been cast. The Patriot's Jason Issacs will star as the character that
claims to be the grandfather of 007 James Bond. IGN
FilmForce have a more detailed article on the character, Hit the link to take
a look. 12th June 2002: The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Update: Monica Bellucci
has left the cast of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen due to personal reasons.
Bellucci was in line to play Mina Harker. Now it looks like either Milla Jovovich
or British actress Saffron Burrows will play Harker, according to IGN
Film Force. In other LOEG casting news, Naseeruddin Shah (Monsoon
Wedding) has been cast in the role of Captain Nemo, Tony Curran will play gentleman
thief-turned-invisible man "Rodney Skinner" and Moulin Rouge actor Richard
Roxburgh will play The Fantom, the villain in the film. Max Ryan (Kiss Of The
Dragon) will play The Fantom's henchman 'Dante', Tom Goodman-Hill (Charlotte Gray)
will play 'Sanderson Reed,' and David Hemmings will play "Nigel," Allan
Quartermain's (Sean Connery) drinking buddy in Africa. For more information, visit
IGN Film Force.
15th May 2002: The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Update: Added the cast listing to the page. Sean Connery (Allan Quartermain)
joins Shane West (Tom Sawyer), Jason Flemying (Dr. Jekyll),
Stuart Townsend (Dorien Gray). Previous
Update:
20th Century Fox have picked up the rights to this adaptation of an Alan Moore/
Kevin O' Neill comic book. They picked up the rights before the first issue had
even been released. Now how's that for confidence. Might it have something to
do with the upcoming From Hell adaptation? Think it might and be a case of hedging
bets. Screenwriter
Alex Ayers was ther first person to lay his hands on it and try an adaptation,
and that was started back in 1999. He was expected to have finished it in February
2000. Alex
Ayers finished his attempt at and adaptation, then James Robinson (DC's Starman
writer) took over and is now working on it. The story is that he took over and
jettisoned Alex Ayers version and he has been quoted as saying "I intend
to stay true to the spirit of the comic which I think is brilliant" The
producer that is on board the project is Don Murphy. He is apparently keeping
Moore involved in the project. Which is unusual as Moore has quite often stated
before as he is not interested in movie adaptations of his work as they are a
completely separate thing from what he does with the comic. So
what is League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen about then? Well, big gulp here. Set
in victorian times in a alternate version of Earth, and Royalty needs assitance
in delicate matters, such as a anti-grav device has been stolen and a squad is
assembled to retrieve it. Guess who the agents are? Captain Nemo, Dr Henry Jekyll,
Allan Quartermain, Ms Mina Murray (character in Bram Stoker novel) and Dr Hawley
Griffin(character in a HG Wells novel). Little
else is known about the project at this stage, maybe they are waiting to see how
From Hell does before greenlighting the movie itself? More
news on The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen as we get it! Date
