Our friend 'Blair' has just sent in his review of The Majestic! Here's a portion of his very positive review.

"Jim Carrey gives yet another great dramatic performance. He, in my opinion, is one of the best actors in the world right now. Darabont’s direction in conjunction with David Tattersall’s cinematography makes for a beautiful looking movie. From beginning to end I was loved with the look, “feel”, tone and atmosphere of this movie. Whether you are American or not (I am not, and neither is the film’s star), this movie stirs the pride in everyone. It is an instant classic".

The trailer for The Majestic is now available to download over at the Apple website. This trailer has also been attached to the US releases Harry Potter & The Sorcerers Stone and Heist.

I've also added the one sheet poster for the film, which again originated by the guys over at Apple. Check it out over on the right.

It's now worth noting that Warner Bros' official Majestic site is up an running and includes a superb production journal which gives an insight into the movie. There's
also a flash site where you can check out more stills from the movie, download desktop themes and get information on the cast and crew.

The Majestic is the latest movie to come from Frank Darabont. This will be the first time that he will be teaming up with Jim Carrey though. The movie is set in 1951 and follows a blacklisted Hollywood writer as he settles down in a small town, but crucially he has lost his memory and he gets mistaken for a long lost son.

The title The Majestic comes from the movie theatre that is owned by Martin Landau. Landau plays Harry Trimble who is the father who mistakes Jim Carrey (Peter Appleton) as his son. Bruce Campbell plays Jim Carrey's literary agent in The Majestic. Laurie Holden is playing the girlfriend of the mistaken son. Amanda Detmer plays Jim Carrey's girlfriend before he loses his memory.

Filming has been in California and Los Angeles. Some scenes have been shot at Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The Majestic is the first movie that Frank Darabont is directing that HASN'T been based on a Stephen King story. Personally this is one movie taht I am really looking forward to, one of Frank Darabont's best abilities as a Director is the humanity that he brings out in his characters, hopefully this will be one of the major aspects of this movie.

CHUD scored a review of the script and this is a snippet of what they thought "It isn't difficult to see what attracted Carrey and Darabont to The Bijou The Majestic). With the exception of the clumsiness in the third act (which is sort of reminiscent of how Pleasantville turned inappropriately somber), this is a great script. The captivating story has a definite poignancy and warmth; rest assured there'll be many a mist-filled eye when this one hits theaters."

Poignancy and warmth , hmm sounds like we are in quality feel good territory here.

Variety scored a quote from Frank Darabont about Jim Carrey's performance in The Majestic "Jim Carrey is the most committed actor I have ever seen -- and he's trying out totally new territory" Wonder what that means, is this movie going to be between his comedy roles and his serious roles and find a new middle ground, where he isn't totally serious or stupid? Let's hope so.
