Michael "There will be a red carpet arrival of Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell,
Alison Lohman and director Ridley Scott in honour of the North American
Premiere of Warner Bros "Matchstick Men" at Roy Thomson Hall, Toronto on
Friday, September 5th as part of the 28th Toronto International Film
Festival. Sir Ridley will also stick around another day to screen his
director's cut of "Alien". As a partner with his brother Tony in the UK's
Shepperton Studios, Sir Ridley is quite fond of Toronto. The Paul Bronfman
Great Lakes Studio project, set to open in 2004 is now being partnered with
Shepperton."

Sheena Duggal who is the VFX Supervisor at Sony's Imageworks has been talking about the FX work for Matchstick Men " I am in post-production on the Ridley Scott comedy "Matchstick Men," which includes several scenes brilliantly cut by "Memento" editor Dody Dorn in which the effects are used to show the altered state of Nicholas Cage. Cage plays a con man who suffers from numerous phobias. The film also includes a number of invisible effects. Sir Ridley Scott is a very creative person to work with. He uses visual effects as a tool to further his creative thought process, so the type of effects we are designing involve a lot of R&D as we build upon his ideas. Ridley has one of the most discerning eyes I have ever come across; he knows exactly what he wants and directs you gently towards it. He is also open to new ideas and creative input. I can't help but feel fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him."

Filming looks to have been stopped on the forthcoming Ridley Scott movie. The reason given so far is personal reasons for Ridley Scott.

10th July 2002: Matchstick Men Update:
Matchstick Men will be Ridley Scott's follow up to Black Hawk Down. Here, he will direct Nicolas cage and Sam Rockwell in the story of a con-man who has an obsessive compulsive disorder.

Production is to take place later this year with a penciled in release for late 2003.
