26th June 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
The Matrix Reloaded comes to IMAX in the UK!
"From 4 July 2003, The Matrix Reloaded: The IMAX Experience
will create a
new reality exclusively at the bfi London IMAX Cinema. This
will be a whole
new way for Matrix fans to "reload in IMAX®"
and experience one of the most
anticipated films of the year.
Special modifications have been made in the projection room
at the bfi
London IMAX Cinema to accommodate the 138-minute film, as
most IMAX films
are around 40 minutes long. The film arrived at the cinema
on 40 reels of
IMAX 15/70mm format film (compared to five or six reels
for most 35mm
Hollywood movies) and took six hours to assemble. The huge
platters that
the film sits on are six feet in diameter so the arms that
support them had
to be extended and a small computer was added to control
their weight and
speed.
The Matrix Reloaded will be shown 11 times during the opening
weekend and
is likely to run until early September. "

Wednesday 11th June 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Egyptian
censors have banned The Matrix Reloaded on religious grounds
and
what they described as the film's excessive violence. The
head of the
Egyptian censorship body in charge of audio and visual productions
said that
the country's highest film committee decided not to allow
the movie to be
shown. "There is no specific scene to which the committee
objected, but it
is about the movie as a whole," said Madkour Thabit,
the head of the
censorship body.

market in London.
The copy available using BitTorrent appears to be have been
made from an
actual film print and is in widescreen format with surround
sound. A

Monday 19th May 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
The
Matrix Reloaded has enjoyed the second-highest opening weekend
of any
film in U.S. history. The sequel took £58.2 million
($93.3 million) during
its Friday to Sunday showings. It narrowly beat the £57m
taken by the first
Harry Potter movie and fell short to only Spider-Man which
took £71 million
($115 million) on its first weekend. Grosses from its first
four days have
already exceeded what the original film made during its
first five weeks.
The first film went on to gross £108.3 million. Matrix
Reloaded earned its
own place in the record books with the best opening weekend
for an R-rated
film. Spider-Man also still holds the record for best day
in box office
history, earning $43.6 million on its second day (a Saturday).
Spidey was at
$125.9 million after four days, while Reloaded has already
garnered $135.8
million in that amount of time.

Friday 9th May 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Matrix
Reloaded star Jada Pinkett Smith has reportedly had a major
bust up
with Joel Silver, the movie's producer. Silver has been
encouraging his
stars to accept all promotional opportunities to plug the
blockbuster and
was upset when she turned down MTV's request to film her
out shopping,
saying it was a cheesy idea. Silver has retaliated by not
giving her a suite
at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York when the cast goes
there to promote
the movie next week. She then went ballistic and refused
to fly on the same
plane as Silver to New York. Instead she is travelling on
a different plane
and paying her own fare. Representatives for the pair have
played down the
row and claim all is fine.

Hugo Weaving has been talking about his character's
role in Matrix Reloaded "He's a free agent, if you
like, he's unplugged himself and is hiding in the Matrix
the same way the Oracle is. His ego's growing, and with
that comes the ability to multiply. I think by the end of
the third film, he is meant to have populated the whole
of the Matrix with himself".

Monday 21st April 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Looks like production on the Matrix sequels wasn't at
all smooth with word leaking out that Ed Jones, the visual
effects producer was let go off during the filming. Post
production executives Mark Solomon and Amy Harrington were
moved sideways into less prominent roles and Chris DeFaria
was brought in to oversee the rest of the FX work that was
required. Also causing a massive problem was Centropolis
closing down and the shots they were dealing with being
handed to Imageworks for a much higher cost. Add that in
to the sad loss of Aaliyah and the numerous injuries for
the cast and it hasn't been an easy genesis.

Monday 21st April 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Hugo Weaving has been talking about The Matrix Reloaded
filming " The first one seemed very contained. It was
long, but the energy was maintained. But the sequels were
really draining on a lot of people. They pushed through
it and every day got what they wanted. But it was a much
more strenuous battle." He then talks about the doubles
he had during fight scenes "They'd had all their hair
shaved and my hair on and glasses. They kind of looked vaguely
like me. They put me in the centre of the frame and did
face replacements on them after the event. Or not, depending
on the shot. The strange thing about it really was doing
scenes with myself. When we were shooting it, I got to know
them all as Rob or Mike or whatever. I just treated them
as other people. But halfway through a scene, I'd have to
do some dialogue with myself and that was peculiar. You'd
be doing it with someone else then have to jump in and do
the scene with yourself."

Tuesday 1st April 2003: Matrix Reloaded Update:
Clint at Moviehole scored a very cool interview with
Lachy Hulme who features in The Matrix Reloaded. Here's
a taste " "Every scene was the hardest scene to
film. You have no idea the level of mental and physical
endurance required to sustain yourself in a project like
this. From my point of view, it was the mental challenge
of keeping six-hundred pages of script in my head -- meaning
all the videogame stuff, plus the scripts for the two movies,
even the stuff I wasn't in. I became kind of like the "encyclopedia"
for some of the other cast members, because I memorized
all this stuff. Shows you what kind of life I have, right?
Too much time on my hands. But the physical stuff, the fighting
and the action, that wasn't my problem. For that, you're
talking about guys like Keanu and Hugo, and Fish and Carrie-Anne."

Neil and Adrian Rayment have been talking about their

tall." A new picture of them can be found Here

Friday
7th March 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Producer Joel Silver has been talking about the new
Matrix movie, revealing
that cinema-goers will get a glimpse of the third film at
the end of the
second. "It really is an incredible journey,"
says Silver, adding that the
two films are actually one movie that's been sliced in half.
"We really
thought our audience would not want to wait a year to see
the rest of the
story because it really stops right in the middle of the
movie. We would
have loved to come out (with them both in) the same summer,
but both of
those movies couldn't get done in time. So we went to the
fall because we
felt that was the best way to do it. The movies are spectacular.
It's all
based on this incredible story the Wachowski Brothers have
created. It's a
story that's being told in multiple mediums. We have this
video game. We
have animated shorts. We have a short film (Osiris) opening
with
Dreamcatcher in three weeks that sets up both sequels. If
you see this short
film, it kind of jumps you into the movie. If you don't
see it, you'll still
enjoy the picture, but it will be enhanced a little bit
if you see the
short.

5th March 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Monica Belluci has been talking about The Matrix Reloaded
"I'll tell you, when you're in front of the camera,
for a small budget movie or a big budget movie, there's
no difference. When you're in front of the camera, I think
an actor works with their soul and their thought and the
language comes. She (Persephone) was the daughter of Zeus
and she was kidnapped by the king of the underworld, in
Hades and she was allowed to come back into the living world.
It says a lot about my character, Persephone, but I can't
tell you [more] about it. She's very mysterious and sensual,
more glamour, but dangerous, very dangerous. My action scenes
are not like jumping on the wall, it's completely different
kind of stuff. You'll see it in the movie."

Tuesday
4th March 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Monica Belluci has been talking about her role as Persephone
in The Matrix Reloaded "I can't say too much. All I
can say is that she's very sensual, very mysterious and
dangerous. She's in control. She's not a victim."

Monday
3rd February 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
David Ellis has been talking about the much heralded
Highway scene in The Matrix Reloaded "We would do the
car chase, and then when Agent Smith is jumping from car
to car, we would [first] actually implode the car. That
is how the front of the car crumbles when Smith lands on
it. When he'd hit a car, we'd flip it over with a cannon,
and then we would [composite] him in with that." He
also revealed more general info on the way action scenes
were filmed " Actors were put on wires so they could
be suspended longer in the air (a technique later used in
films such as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,"
"Charlie's Angels" and Jackie Chan movies). Crowd
scenes were created through "replication," duplicating
a portion of a stadium, for example, so the arena seemed
full. And in a process called "bullet time," action
was shot in slow motion through multiple cameras to exaggerate
the effect."

Thursday
30th January 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Monica Belluci has been talking about her role as Persephone
in the upcoming Matrix sequels "The only thing I can
tell is the three main characters are still the ones played
by Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne
; that I'm among the new characters who appear in the second
movie and that I have a very small role in the third one.
I got no action scene, well only one in fact, but one very
special. Then I didn't have to jump on walls, nor practice
martial arts like Carrie-Anne Moss who executes some unbelievable
technical valors! Actually the first thing I do when I arrive
on the set is the rehearsals. I understand pretty quickly
the Wachowski have a very definite idea of what they want!
I meet Lambert Wilson who is absolutely lovely. I meet Keanu
again. I've known him on Dracula (Coppola) when I started
my carreer. I had only a small role in a sublime erotic
scene ; I had to jump on a bed with some other girls and
to kiss this handsome lad! And almost ten years later I
have to make something very big with him which I
cant spoil, but it's not bad either!"

Wednesday
29th January 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Laurence Fishburne has been talking about the upcoming
Matrix sequels "I can tell we're going to see how deep
the rabbit hole goes, and I can tell the you the technology
is as ground-breaking as the first time around. I can tell
you there's going to be two animated shorts released on
the Internet in February that explain some of the origins
of the Matrix. "I'm as excited as anybody else is to
see it, because I have not."

Tuesday
28th January 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
This sounds like an old story, but as the film is gaining
momentum towards release definetely worth a mention. It
has been reported that Keanu Reeves turned down a slice
of the two movies Box Office sales in an effort to ensure
the movies got made due to the spiralling costs of the FX.
It is thought he would have picked up a cool $38 million
if he had picked up the rights.

the same time."

Wednesday
22nd January 2003: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Laurence Fishburne has been talking about the scene
we are all waiting for in Matrix Reloaded the freeway chase
at the end of the movie " Ah, the freeway chase, The
Matrix is going to be unstoppably
watchable, you're gonna get to see how deep the rabbit hole
goes, the
technology is gonna be unlike anything you have ever seen
before. They
are going to release two animated shorts [Animatrix] in
February, that
you go to the website and visit for free and see them. I'm
trying to
remember to the title for the first two, I think its called
"
Renaissance" and they deal with how the world that
we live in today got
to be the world of the Matrix. And then when Dreamcatcher
comes out,
there is a nine-minute Animatrix attached to the end of
Dreamcatcher
called "Flight of the Osiris" that sets up the
plot for the Matrix
Reloaded. Then the day the movie [Matrix Reloaded] comes
out "Enter the
Matrix", which is the video game, comes out as well,
and it's in all
platforms Xbox, PS2, etc, etc
"

12th December 2002: Matrix Reloaded Update:
Hugo Weaving has been revealing some more information about
the upcoming Matrix sequels "Essentially, there is
the journey of Neo [Keanu Reeves] into a greater understanding
of himself and how this whole world came about. He has a
very strong journey towards truthhis own truth and
the truth of the Matrix and the creation of the Matrix.
Then there is another strong storyline, which is the attack
of Zion by the machines, Zion being the refuge for human
beings. Those are the two very strong thrusts of the films,
if you like. Smith has become liberated and is in some way
pretty much the same character, except that his ego is expanded,
and he is in the process of replicating himself. I think
the idea was to move forward. There was a 20-minute compilation
that we saw about halfway through the shoot of what we'd
shot, and it was quite astounding what was put together.
I think in terms of breaking new ground, technically certainly,
it's moving ahead. The [Wachowski brothers, who wrote and
directed the movies,] always thought, 'This is what we want.
We can't achieve it. It's impossible to achieve it at this
stage, so let's invent something so that we can achieve
it.'"

He's a balance between the two."
Friday
6th December 2002: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Keanu Reeves has been talking about a fight scene for the
upcoming Matrix sequel "It's a fight between Neo and
Smith. It takes place in the second film, "Reloaded,"
and it's basically Neo multi-fighting a bunch of different
Smiths. It took about 27 shooting days for a camera, first
unit and there was a bunch of other days we call motion
capture, which will be integrated with some of the virtual
camera stuff that they are doing. When you're watching it,
you're seeing people on wires, you're seeing some of the
choreography, and folks just trying to put a good fight
together, a good fun fight. That was a remarkable few days.
We shot that out in Oakland, California with, I think it
was like 900 or 1,200 kids, people out dancing. ... There
was a wonderful feeling coming from the people who were
participating in it, just an excitement. There was drum
circles and people doing impromptu concerts and singing.
I'm sure a couple people are getting married after those
couple of days. It was really quite a rave aspect to it,
which was great. I know the brothers were really excited
by the enthusiasm shown by the people involved, so it was
cool."

John Gaeta , VFX Supervisor on the upcoming Matrix sequels
has been talking about how bullet time will develop on the
sequels "The next films will blow your minds. We'll
show all the faithful that the concept of Bullet time still
rules. We have trashed all the previous methods, they are
ancient history. And once again the victory will be for
the movement in digital film circles which have devoted
themselves to visualizing virtual cameras and virtual reality
for the first time on the big screen. Many ideas and influences
are in the mix BUT ONLY ONE FILM WILL PRESENT THEM WITH
MEANING AND PURPOSE WHICH SERVES THE STORY OF A SUPERHUMAN

has this to do with Matrix Reloaded, well Village Roadshows
are making the sequels and part of the reason is due to
huge costs of making the sequels. Ok, a major part of the
reason is due to massive flops like Pluto Nash and The Majestic.
The refinancing wll secure Village Roadshow's long term
future and will please fans who would be distraught if the
Matrix sequels got stuck in limbo!

Producer
Joel Silver has been talking about the upcoming Matrix sequels
and he is building them up big time "I think we won't
even have to advertise the third film, we'll just tell people
the date, and they'll come. The story is so fantastic. You're
not going to want to wait for the next movie, so we want
to release them as close as we can together. The cliffhanger
is so substantial you will want to see it soon, and we're
aware of that."

29th May 2002: The Matrix Reloaded Update:
"You [may] have seen some
really good freeway chase sequences in your day," declares
[second unit director] David Ellis, "but you haven't
seen one where guys are leaping from car to car and fighting
as they leap and doing all the Matrix stuff in the middle
of the car chase as well!"
The report above, from Sci
Fi Wire, includes an interview with The Matrix sequels
second unit director David Ellis. And he even went on to
say...
"And
Trinity [Carrie-Anne Moss] does some pretty amazing motorcycle
riding. It's going to be cool. ... Before they left [for
Australia], we saw some, like, 60 seconds of stuff, some
really quick things, but it's going to be cool. And those
guys [writers/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski] are so
talented and so hands-on and [involved with] every single
little minute detail that happens in the film."

27th May 2002: The Matrix Reloaded
Update:
There has been more Matrix filming,
this time spotted in a tunnel. This from Dark
Horizons,
Trinity, Morpheus and a Chinese Guy where all present.
The scene we witnessed was of an old man (dressed in dark
brown clothes and with a beard - looked homeless) being
chased by a group of people including Trinity, Morpheus
and the Chinese Guy (cannot remember his name but he had
round dark glasses on). Trinity has a lot of hair gel and
is wearing a long leather coat. We were only able to stay
and watch for about 10 mins before we were kicked out by
security (they told us that the supervisor did not want
us their, and by state rail people to either get in a train
or leave).

more.

2002 - The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Time.com
have posted new images from The Matrix Reloaded, along with
a rather detailed report. Click
here to see pics of Neo, Morpheus and the city of Zion.
There are a few spoilers in this report, so beware if you
don't want to know.....
Details about the further adventures of Neo have been
closely guarded, but we found some clues on the set in Sydney,
where the cast and crew have been working since September
and are expected to wrap this summer. On a remote corner
of a sound stage stand dozens of latex, life-size replicas
of the dastardly Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), all in single
file. Why so many Smiths? Since the original film, Smith
has learned to replicate himself (he's a computer virus),
which means Neo will have to fight several Smiths at once.
Across
the stage, in front of the cameras and under the lights,
we find Reeves in his familiar uniform (long black coat,
dark shades) at the bottom of a crater being drenched by
a rainstorm manufactured by overhead sprinklers. Later,
drying off in his trailer, Reeves won't elaborate on that
particular shot (it takes place in a climactic battle scene
in part three), but he does give the following overview
of the trilogy: "The first one is about birth,"
says Reeves. "The second one is life; the third is
death." Thanks, Keanu. Full
report.

The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Moviehole
report that Rupert Reid, from TV's "Blue Heelers",
has joined the cast of The Matrix Reloaded.
"It's believed his role is of great importance to
the movies, but is being kept under wraps. Reid is believed
to have been signed for both films, but Reloaded having already
shot the majority of it's scenes - will probably only feature
him minutely".
Redi's contract apparently states that he isn't allowed to
talk about his character or involvement ib the two sequels.

to be played by the late Aaliyah, has gone to fellow singer
Nona Gaye. She will appear in both The Matrix Reloaded and

Of The Clones. The trailer will not be attached to the

11/12/01:
The Matrix Reloaded Update:
An update. The Matrix Reloaded will
hit cinemas in the summer (probably May) of 2003 with The
Matrix 3 (Revolutions) just six months later in November.
Warner Brothers therefore have moved the third Harry Potter
movie to the summer of 2004 so that the films arn't competing
with each other. The Matrix Reloaded will be released at around
about the same time as Terminator 3: The RIse Of The machines,
of which, Warners have just aquired the domestic distribution
rights.
To update things since our last posting, R and B star Aaliyah
was tragically killed in an airplane crash at the end of August.
Her role in The Matrix sequels is thought to have been recast.
Joel SIlver was quoted in saying this at the time;
"We are all deeply saddened by this tragedy, Aaliyah's acting
career was just blossoming. She had remarkable talent and
charisma and great potential. The Wachowskis and I, as well
as the production executives at Warner Bros. Pictures, were
looking forward to working with her in the two Matrix films
as well as many other future projects. Her passing is a tremendous
loss. Our hearts go out to her loved ones."
In other sad news, actress Gloria Foster
who played The Oracle in the first movie, passed away at the
beginning of October. She was 64. The actress is thought to
have completed most of her work on Reloaded but had yet to
start The Matrix Revolutions. Again her part is to be recast.
Shooting re-starts in early 2002.

The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Bad news for 'Matrix' fans everywhere!!!!
Joel SIlver has been speaking on SciFi.com and
states that The Matrix Reloaded may not hit our screens until
the summer of 2003.
"It's just it's an enormous project," he said.
"It's
a staggering project. There's so much dealing with it, it's
unbelievable,
and they just need time to finish both movies, because we're
shooting them as
one big movie. It's not back to back. It's one movie, so
they'll finish shooting
it, and then they'll take the time to finish the movies."

Update: 18/3/01:
:
The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Dark Horizons had the following submitted to them back
last week."I live in San Francisco, Ca, so I thought I
would head over to the Alameda Point Navy Base. This is where
they are setting up to shoot the new Matrix. Well I can say
it's one long set, as we all know they are going to shoot
some highway scene. Well it's well over a mile in length.
At one end is a overpass (west end) and the other has a opening
into the set. Looks like alot of work was going on moving
what looked to be railroad ties and some metal work. At one
point a motorcycle came and entered the set from the east
end, it looked like a test of sorts." Joel Silver himself
also had something to say as he was interviewed attending
the premiere of Exit Wounds, "The scripts are so spectacular
and the boys [Andy and Larry Wachowski] are very specific,
they don't let anyone else see them because they don't to
ruin the surprises. There are a lot of surprises in this movie
coming up. They're being careful about who reads them and
what they let out. [Regarding] all the activity, I don't know
where [the Internet is] getting it from, because there are
very few scripts around. The movies are going to be absolutely
unbelievable - visual effects you cannot believe, incredible
characters, great story."
Update: 9/3/01:
The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Both Harold Perrineau (The Edge) and Daniel Bernhardt (Mortal
Kombat Annihilation) have been cast in the two Matrix sequels.
Update: 7/3/01:
The Matrix Reloaded Update:
Hugo Weaving held an interview with the New York Post about
his involvement with The Matrix sequels. Apprarently, each
cast member that has been given a script that has been printed
on paper that cannot be photocopied. The script has each cast
memvers named plastered across it, so they can be easily traced.
Some actors still have not seen the script although there
are just three weeks to go until shooting is underway. "Even
actors who've signed on haven't got their scripts yet,"
Weaving says. "They know they're playing such-and-such
a role, but they don't know anything about it!" When asked
if he could let any secrets out about the films he replied
"look, the plot develops in a really fantastic, really
interesting way. But I honestly can't tell you anything more
than that." Source: ComingSoon.net
