Julia Roberts has been filming on Mona Lisa Smile at the Wellesley College Campus this week for establishing shots alongside Julia Stiles and Dominic West. Rumoured also to be at the filming may be Kirsten Dunst and Ginnifer Goodwin. Forty five extras will be rehired for the scenes that have involved the filmmakers making some extra fake snow to make the scene more winterlike.

Information on the filming for Mona Lisa Smile has been submitted online here's the relevant info "Julia Roberts and company took up temporary residence in tents and trailers lining "The Green," a large grassy square in New Haven, the small New England city that is home to Yale University. Shooting took place on November 1st, at three locations: a local art gallery, Yale's Silliman College and Yale's Sterling Memorial Library. The art gallery scene, a closed-set interior, was shot in the afternoon. It took about two or three hours. When it was done, Roberts came outside and hustled into a tan Ford Expedition. Surrounded by dozens of starstruck fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the Pretty Woman, Roberts was driven to her nearby quarters, a modest white trailer. She was kept company in her trailer by at least one super-friendly black dog. She hurried into the nearby make-up trailer, joining co-star Toper Grace ("That 70s Show"). About an hour later, Roberts came out again, now fully made-up for her scene in Yale's Sterling Memorial Library, another closed-set interior. It took about three hours to film. Although Sterling is a Yale library, in the film it will serve as a Harvard location. According to one production assistant, filming at the real Harvard, in heavily-taxed Massachusetts, was deemed too expensive. Even so, after just six or seven hours of work, the day's shooting was complete, and Julia and company departed -- leaving the New Haven economy an estimated $100,000 richer. "After all," as a production assistant explained, "It IS a multi-million dollar film."

Dark Horizons received a report from the set of Julia Robert's next movie, Mona Lisa Smile. "Julia Roberts came to New Haven, Connecticut recently for a single day of shooting for her upcoming film, "Mona Lisa Smile." Roberts plays a radical 1953 Berkeley graduate who goes on to teach art history at Wellesley, a conservative women's college. Julia and company took up temporary residence in tents and trailers lining "The Green", a large grassy square in New Haven, the small New England city that is home to Yale University". Mona Lisa Smile, the new Julia Roberts movie begins filming in New York at the Ukraine Academy on October 7th. It is currently shooting at Wellesley College and will return there in January for further filming.

Director Mike Newell has signed up Marcia Gay Harden to c-star alongside Julia Roberts, Julia Stiles, Kirsten Dunst and Maggie Gyllenhaal in Mona LIsa Smile. Filming is due to start in November this year in New York and Massachusetts. Harden's role will be as a teacher and friend of Robert's character, who takes a teacbhing post at the women only Wellesley College in 1953. The movie has been written by Mark Rosenthal and Lawrence Konner.

Julia Roberts is taking etiquette lessons to prepare for her role in the soon to be filming Mona Lisa Smile. She is learning the cha-cha, swing dancing and how to flirt (like she doesn't know that one already). Also attending the classes are Kirsten Dunst and Julia Stiles who co-star.

Maggie Gyllenhaal will star as Gilselle Levy in the Julia Roberts starrer Mona Lisa Smile for Revolution Studios. Julia Stiles and Kirsten Dunst will also star in the film directed by Mike Newell according to The Hollywood Reporter.
8th May 2002: Mona Lisa Smile: Update:
Julia Roberts has signed on to star in this Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Donnie Brasco) drama for Revolution Studios.
The film is scheduled to kick off shooting later this year or in the first part of 2003. If it is next year, they'll have to work pretty quickly as the film already has a provisional release date in the US, July 25th.
