Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have started to develop "National Treasure 2," which will be directed by returning helmer Jon Turteltaub. Gregory Poirier will write the screenplay. It is unknown whether Nicolas Cage will return for the sequel.

Jon Turteltaub, the director of Walt Disney Pictures' "National Treasure", has revealed that a sequel is planned. He wants to film the sequel in China. A screenwriter is being sought.
