It gets released in the U.S. in just four days,
but rumours are swirling that Director Terence
Malick is considering releasing the movie not
in the version viewed by critics and submitted
for Oscar voting. That version came in at 142
minutes, but he's apparently been playing about
with the running length and has a version ready
that is about 20 minutes shorter. This comes
after various criticisms of the films meandering
pace. And if its anything like The Thin Red
Line where you could quite happily fall asleep
for 10 minutes and not have missed anything,
any trims on the length are much appreciated
here!

The
release date for New Line's Oscar hopeful The New
World has been pushed back to January 13th 2006,
with a limited Christmas release. This all reeks
of what Warner Bros.did with Million Dollar Baby
and look what that did at the Oscars. The official
word is the film isn't ready, but wouldn't you wait
if your film had a chance?

22nd December 2004: The New World:
The official
web site for Terance Malick's The New World has been launched
by New Line. Opening November 9, the film is set amid the encounter
of European and Native American cultures during the founding
of the Jamestown Settlement in 1607. Inspired by the legend
of John Smith (Colin Farrell) and Pocahontas (Q'orianka Kilcher),
Malick transforms this classic story into a sweeping exploration
of love, loss and discovery, both a celebration and an elegy
of the America that was...and the America that was yet to come.
Christopher Plummer, Christian Bale, August Schellenberg, Wes
Studi, David Thewlis and Yorick van Wageningen also star.
