Just received an email from the co-writer of the books that The Pacific Clipper will be based on. The author's correct name is Albert S. J. Tucker and co written by Matt Paxton. The book is not fiction and is the true account of the around-the-world flight in 1941-42.Happy to correct the details Matt!

Monday 14th October 2002: The Pacific Clipper Update:
Writer Stuart Beattie has been hired by 20th Century Fox to adapt two books called Pacific Clipper: The Untold Story by Albert S J Tukcer and Escape Of The Pacific Clipper by George L Flynn into a movie provisionally titled The Pacific Clipper. The movie will tell the tale of a group of pilots wo circumnavigated the globe after Pearl Harbor in 1941 in an effort to get back to America.
