Wednesday 9th February 2005: The Painted Veil:
John Curran (We Don't Live Here Anymore) will direct Warner Independent Pictures and Stratus Film's "The Painted Veil." Edward Norton is set to star and Naomi Watts is in negotiations. Based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham, "The Painted Veil" follows a doctor and his adulterous wife, Kitty, as they travel to an isolated Chinese village to battle a cholera outbreak in the 1920s. Kitty has a spiritual awakening and falls back in love with her husband after witnessing his dedication to his work. Ron Nyswaner has adapted the script.

Edward Norton and Naomi Watts have been signed up to star in The Painted Veil for producers Mark Gordon, Mark Gill and ob Yari, via their new production house Stratus Film Co, the script for The Painted Veil has been written by Ron Nyswaner and is based on the novel by W Somerset Maugham and will tell the tale of a missionary doctor in Hong Kong in 1920 who ventures into a region stricken by a cholera outbreak in order to stop an adulterous affair between his wife and a diplomat.
